Think about it, if the sitcom didn't "originate" from Minneapolis, would people want to visit there? If not for Mary Richards and the gang, where would the city be right now as far as notoriety? No disrespect to the city, but what is your opinion on this? Cheers the sitcom did a great deal for the city of Boston, Friends & Seinfeld helped with tourism in New York City, what do you think?

PS,

Why was Minneapolis even chosen as the setting for TMTMS?

I don't know why Minneapolis was chosen, but I do think TMTMS helped put the show on the map!!

Exactly Monika, I am sure shows like Hot in Cleveland is helping out tourism in Cleveland as well. Hit shows can really help a city out.

I'm not really sure about that, but I think seeing the still-hot John Schneider in Indians garb is a real treat. ;) :D

She was from elsewhere in Minnesota, a small town. I don't remember the name of the town. I'll have to defer to Kristen or Leigh Ann on this one.

And of course the MTMS cast passed the torch to the cast of Coach which was set at the fictional Minnesota State University and kept Minnesota in the national consciousness.

Good point Marv, I totally forgot about 'Coach.' The only problem with that show was that they moved the settings to Florida.

I agree with the two of you. The show lost its charm once they moved.

I couldn't remember at first, either, Monika.
But it's Roseburg, Minnesota.

I remember seeing Minneapolis on maps before MTM went on the air!

I don't think the casual viewer eally cared if the show was set in Mpls. or somewhere else.
