April 8th, 1979 - The last episode of "All In The Family" aired

Archie keeps a sick Edith so busy cooking for his big St. Patrick's Day party, that she doesn't get the chance to tell him that "hard work is hazardous to her health." When Archie finds out the truth about Edith's illness, he takes steps to make sure she will never "forget" to tell him again.

The final appearance of Edith Bunker on this show, yes, but not the absolute final appearance of Edith Bunker.

That would have been on Archie Bunker's Place during the 1979-80 season.

You might want to clarify the thread title.;)

he takes steps to make sure she will never "forget" to tell him again.

Exactly what is meant by that ominious statement?

Actually, the final appearance of Edith Bunker was December 9th, 1979 in the 224th episode that aired within CBS's All in the Family timeline (Archie Bunker's Place (ep 14)). Jean Stapleton's last time filming on set was during the ABP thanksgiving two part episode. Then the bomb was dropped on November 2nd, 1980 that Edith died a month ago. Whew! That was intense. :(
