"I Dream Of Jeannie" Bottle Donated To Smithsonian
07 April 2011

The iconic genie bottle featured in the 1960s hit sitcom "I Dream Of Jeannie" is set to be featured at the Smithsonian museum.

On the classic U.S. show, a magical genie, played by Barbara Eden, appears when the bottle is rubbed and is able to grant her master wishes with the blink of an eye.

Eden still owns the original set piece made famous by the show and has decided to donate it to collectors at the Smithsonian Institution.

During an appearance on U.S. show "The Talk" on Thursday (07Apr11), Eden says:

"I have the original bottle. It was in the office for a long time and then people said you know, 'That shouldn't be around, there's only one.' So I put it in the bank (in a vault) but it's on its way to the Smithsonian."

The famous prop is actually just a hand-painted, empty Jim Beam whiskey liquor bottle.

It's interesting that the article states there was only one bottle and it is accompanied by a photo that clearly shows two bottles!! Anyways it's nice that Barbara is donating one of the bottles to the Smithsonian. It really is iconic!

What Barbara meant was that she owns the only bottle that can be confirmed (that the public knows of anyway) to have been used ON THE SHOW that survived and is still around today. The one she is holding is one a fan gave her painted by a modern day artist. Her original she got when the series ended is in the background on the shelf. Hope that helps!
