Have you ever had it?

My husband and I are both recovering from a severe bout of food poisoning. He got sick on Sunday, and mine started on Monday. We're just feeling a little better today and eating solid food; and then only soup. The culprit is either the Italian dinner I cooked last Friday or the sirloin tip dinner I cooked on Saturday.

Everything we ate was fresh; or tasted fresh anyway and wasn't past any expiration date. I've had food poisoning twice in my life. The first time, about 20 years ago from eating in a restaurant, and then about 12 years ago, from eating at a Wendy's.

Those times, the illness lasted a day, and while I was very sick, nothing compared to how sick I was this time. It was sheer hell. To anyone who's ever been victim to this ungodly beast, you know what I'm saying. To the lucky ones who haven't, count your blessings on this one.

Sorry to hear that, I've never had it but an Uncle of mine got a really bad case of it years ago from a can of soup out of a vending machine. I wish you and Lou a speedy recovery.

Wow I'm so sorry Janice. :( I'm glad that you and Lou are starting to feel better. I've never had it *knock on wood* but it sounds just awful.

Janice, I'm so sorry that you and Lou got food poisoning. I'm glad that you're starting to feel better. :)

My sister got food poisoning in June 2008 while at summer camp.

A few years ago my mother got food poisoning after eating my sister-in-law's stuffing on Thanksgiving.

Yikes. Glad you're both feeling better. Food poisoning can be very, very serious.

I actually had it about 10 years ago, and it was brutal. I wouldn't wish it on anybody.

Dumb question but I never know how you know for sure that what you have is food poisoning. I think I MIGHT have had it about ten years ago; I ate some "sharp cheddar" Mac and cheese and was very, very ill for about 24 hours, with all the stuff you might imagine.

But I could never say for sure that's what it was, and not a virus or something.

The symptoms of food poisoning and a virus could mimic one another. Not to be gross, but it's sort of sick at both ends. Usually when I'm sick, I feel better after I vomit, but not with this. It was a like a vomit tsunami, powerful to the point that it came out my nose, over and over again. Now there's a nice visual for everyone, lol.

I was weak, dizzy, just sick. I think if I went to the hospital, they'd admit me. I could barely walk. I'm trying to drink fluids because I'm sure I'm dehydrated; only liquids make me feel queasy. I don't want a relapse. That's what happened to my husband. He got well for almost an entire day, then got hit worse than the first time.

According to Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, Food Poisoning occurs at an abnormally high rate causing more than 76 Million illnesses, 325,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths per year. That's just in the United States.

I read some stats; 76 million people a year get food poisoning, and five thousand die. This is just in the U.S.

Holy cats, that's bad. I never had it like that, for sure.

I guess there's no cure or treatment for it, either, you just have to tough it out.

Good luck to you and your hubby, Janice. What a way to spend a week!

Wow, I hope you don't have a relapse of food poisoning. I'm sorry that Lou had a relapse.

That's a lot of cases of food poisoning.

I've had food poisoning before it's not fun. FYI when a TGI Fridays waitress asks you if medium is ok for your burger say no.

I had an experience about a year ago. I felt like I was dying, like my insides were going to burst outward. I even had heart palpitations and felt faint. I was vomiting profusely and had severe diarrhea. This happened a few hours after I had lunch that day. Whatever I ate my body wanted it out of my system immediately. And this all occurred over a friend's house. How embarrassing. I seriously was close to having someone call an ambulance. Thankfully, I have amazing friends who helped me through it.

I've had food poisoning a few times before, all while traveling to other countries. Twice in Mexico and once in Morocco. It's terrible and you feel like death! Hope you and your husband recover soon!

I may have had it when I was eating food at a party. Now, I eat like a bird and I had some meatballs, rigatoni, green beans with almonds, and cheddar potatoes. I felt a little sick when I went home I thought if I took antacids, I'd be fine and if I went to bed, I'd feel better.

I was wrong...I couldn't sleep, the antacids didn't work, I went to the bathroom to drink some water...and...puke:!

I felt like **** all day and I couldn't eat much...is that food poisoning or Gastro-intestinalitis?

OH Nuts!

Janice I'm so sorry you and Lou had food poisoning. I've had it a few times and it sucks. Mine was really intense vomiting 3 or 4 times, then feeling very week, and not being able to eat anything except bananas and gatorade. A tainted deli platter turned out to be the culprit.

You might want to run by your symptoms with a doctor - so you can maybe try to avoid this kind next time (not always avoidable but sometimes maybe)
