View Full Version : Facts of Life Season 6 - 9 on DVD Questions Cleared Up
folbartman 03-30-2011, 12:19 AM Hey all,
This is no April fools joke and I hate to bear bad news. I had heard rumours Shout does not have rights to release the rest of the series on DVD. And you all may be thinking I am making up such a story, but indeed the rumor is true and will be posted to our Facts of Life Site soon. Here was their direct response to my inquiry.
Hi -
We would love to continue to release future seasons of The Facts of Life.
But as of this moment, we do not have licensing rights.
Please check back in a few months. Hopefully something will change.
And we will forward you title suggestions along to our Acquisitions Dept as well.
Sorry we had to bring not so good news.
Our site is re-launching in the coming months.
That may be a good time to check.

Thanks for the query and suggestions,
Shout! Factory
Maybe Sony will release the rest of the series on their MOD calendar since I think Shout did very well............ It looks like it's on stall again folks..... :(
BigManMike 03-30-2011, 11:36 PM I actually saw that on their message boards last week. Very disappointed. Hopefully they will be able to work something out and get the rest of them out at least by 2014 at the latest. If not, then I will just have to buy the bootlegs on ioffer.
Robert 13 03-31-2011, 12:41 PM I'm not too worried about this. It's happened before with Shout and then they are able to strike a deal. So I'm sure we will see more FOL in the near future. They also informed us that "Hazel" was not available to them. Then, a few months later, they announced they had acquired the rights to release it. So, don't lose hope just yet...:)
ssudioTVgirl 04-01-2011, 10:22 AM I hope they can work something out.
Jude The Obscure 04-07-2011, 01:45 PM Why did they obtain the rights to only two of the seasons? SHEESH!!

I expect they were testing the waters so to speak. If sales were to their satisfaction then they will probably try to make a deal to license the remaining seasons.
Johnny be good! 04-08-2011, 12:54 PM Relax, Shout has never backed out on a promise.
Jude The Obscure 04-19-2011, 06:51 PM I'll believe it when I see the rest of the series.
RoryGilmore 10-16-2011, 01:43 PM Is there any recent news on Season 6?
I was trying to find a contact email from Sony this weekend and I can't find one! its so frustrating because I want to ask them why they are holding back. I think we should all bombard Sony with constant emails!! you know, since shout factory doesn't have the rights to the show anymore

I looked for a contact too but couldn't find one. If you find one please post it here.
I have enough different email addresses to "vote" more than once. ;)
this is turning into a scavenger hunt. who can find the email for Sony? lol but seriously. I really would like to have it if someone finds it.

I went on Google to see if I could find there email. I don't know if this is what you guys are looking for but I found a page to Email Sony Support. http://esupport.sony.com/perl/support-contacts.pl I also saw allot of searches where people were saying that they didn't get any email reply's from Sony that it's a waste of time to email them. But it's worth a try I guess, I just think it's stupid of Sony to keep the rights to FOL and not sell the rest of the seasons. I mean there not making any money by not selling it so there not doing themselves any favors, so why keep it, that's what I don't understand. Unless Sony is trying to see if they can get a good deal from some other company and maybe that's the reason Shout doesn't have the rights yet they probably don't want to buy it at the price Sony wants for it and Sony won't bargain.
Johnny be good! 03-25-2012, 01:20 PM Sony sucks. They should put FOL on Netflix l.
I said this in another thread I think but I recently gave in and went to ioffer and bough the rest of the series from someone who has recorded it and i must say its great quality and I've enjoyed them so much! I only paid 15 for seasons 6-9. i thought it was a great deal!:D screw Sony!
Jude The Obscure 03-27-2012, 12:35 PM As time goes on, I think music rights must be really hard to clear for s6-9. I don't know how much more I'll be patient for some news.
Johnny be good! 04-09-2012, 09:59 AM They'll have plenty of money after Shout! Factory sells Power Rangers.
Astaldo711 05-09-2012, 12:03 PM I'm so sick of shows not being released on DVD because of legal problems. Mostly because of music; China Beach, Wonder Years, etc.
Jude The Obscure 05-09-2012, 06:42 PM ^Greed......Greed is what's killing the TV on DVD market.
hawkeye123 05-28-2012, 11:42 PM I was wondering ,why i haven't been able to find 6 through 9 any where.That sucks...

I agree 100% and it's a crock of ****.
Jude The Obscure 08-18-2012, 07:46 PM Maybe now that Shout! is putting out Diff'rent Strokes at a very rapid pace--season 3 is out and season 4 has just been announced, maybe they will once again offer Facts of Life?
Kasey 08-19-2012, 03:25 PM They were asked the same thing on their Facebook page very recently but the response was "Sorry, no plans at this time", so either the music is too expensive or Sony just won't let it go for some reason.
Johnny be good! 08-19-2012, 11:10 PM It will happen in due time. Just have patience.
ShamelessFanGirl 11-23-2013, 02:38 PM I hope that we see Seasons 6-9 in the future...
Nighthawk76 11-24-2013, 04:33 AM I can't imagine what problem there would be over "rights". There wasn't a lot of music used on Facts and how much money would Shout! have to fork over for the rights to Stacy Q. It seems like Sony won't release their own shows and doesn't want anyone else to either.

The "Cruising" episode in S6 features copycat versions of "Dancing Queen" and "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling". Rights costs for those two songs probably run in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and with the dismal sales of S5 (Shout Factory actually lost money on it) Sony sees little incentive to continue.

Its sad to hear that season 5 lost money. Its my favorite.

I 100% agree! Season 5 is a great season and I'm actually confused why it did so bad... There was a long gap between the season 4 release and 5, and people were sooooo excited that season 5 finally came out, I would have thought that it would have done amazing!

I completely agree with you guys too: season 5 was the best of them all cos this is when the 5 of them lived in the same roof by themselves and MRS.G became a 'legal mother' to the girls and continued to help them through their adolescence.......
Nighthawk76 11-25-2013, 01:52 PM What I like most about season 5 is that it was the beginning of a lot of new things for the show like Jo and Blair going to college and Mrs. Garrett opening her own shop. Also, with Mrs. G opening Edna's Edibles, Jo and Blair in college and Natalie and Tootie still in high school it lead to more diverse stories.

Impressions 12-02-2013, 12:50 AM ^Greed......Greed is what's killing the TV on DVD market.
Streaming is killing TV on DVD. If they put the show on Netflix US, Hulu Plus, or iTunes, I think a lot of people would watch the show from these distributors as opposed to DVD.
robby76 12-19-2013, 01:11 PM True but Facts Of Life do have an international fanbase - I definitely can't get Hulu etc. I'm still holding out for eventual dvd releases - there's still a huge market for tangible products.

I'm still holding out, too! Never give up the faith!
CaliforniaKid 12-19-2013, 02:03 PM This was one of my favorite shows as a kid, I bought Seasons 5-9 off a traders site. They are complete and uncut and the video quality is amazing.
Probably better then an official release anyway since all music and scenes are intact.

HarlieD 12-28-2013, 04:20 AM If it were about money, you would think they could get quite a bit, considering how huge George Clooney is.
