I know the cast is getting up there in age, but would a scripted reunion even be possible? If so, would it work without the late Ted Knight's character present?

Brian,

I am pretty sure they had a 'retrospective' type reunion in the 90's and the stated reason that they didn't do a scripted one was that they didn't want to do one without Ted Knight.

It's very admirable of them to take this stance. As much as I would love to see the classic characters appear again, I do see how not having Ted around would really change the dynamic a lot. Then again, you'd have everyone else; Mary, Lou, Murray, Sue Ann, Georgette, Rhoda and Phyllis...it might be worth it.

I say the retrospectives are more than enough. Remember the Mary & Rhoda movie? Nuff said!!

Agreed. My heart tugs at me, but my head says they'd screw it up (the writers). Maybe if Brooks could be talked into it?

I might have watched that movie if they had the whole cast back. But I just knew it wasn't going to be any good.

I've seen interviews saying the same thing. But I don't really think there's much chance of another reunion now anyway. The cast doesn't seem to be interested, so it's kind of a moot point now.

It is hard to believe that it will almost be a quarter of a century that Ted Knight has been gone.

The Mary & Rhoda movie was on the Comedy Network here in Canada last month. That station ran the movie a few times on a Sunday. Boy, did I have a hard time sitting through it.

Certain things need to be left alone. Remember the Dick Van Dyke Show Revisited. Great seeing the cast together but the script was lousy. Plus Mary is not in the best of health. If you saw her appearance on Hot in Cleavland you can tell she is not well. She did not sound like herself. Betty and Cloris are sharp as ever and still on top of their gang.

Yes, I did see that DVD Revisited - that's a classic example that some things are better left in the past!!!!!

No. Scripted reunions are always bad. Sitcoms were half hour format shows and attempts to bring them back in movie format doen't capture the same atmosphere. Another problem is trying to do a show that was originally a studio audience show in a more cinematic format. Even shows that just had a regular laugh track lose their familiar atmosphere in these remakes. I would much rather watch a reunion show in which the actors reminisce and show clips.
