View Full Version : Uncut Hazel on Antenna TV
Hazel Anyday 03-29-2011, 11:43 AM Yesterday (3/21) ANT TV showed what seemed to be an uncut version of "Hazel's Inquisitive Mind", even with all the commercials cut it was 25 min, the next episode they showed "Hazel's Day In Court" was 22 1/2 min. though. So my high hopes for all uncut Hazels were dashed, but the good news is an uncut version seems to have snuck into the schedule.:)
Zoneboy 03-29-2011, 11:52 AM That's great but even though I get Antenna TV clear as a bell, I refuse to watch this channel because the local affiliate has their damn logo plastered in the screen 24/7.
Hazel Anyday 03-29-2011, 12:06 PM That's one of the great things about Ant TV, so far. They do not put their logo in the corner of the screen, it's just a plain beautiful untarnished picture, no crunched credits, no annoying ads playing instead of credits theme song, no even more annoying ads playing at the bottom of the screen as the TV show is actually playing, just good old fashioned quality broadcasting the way it used to be done, logo free and credits intact. I'm sorry you're local channel is plastering it's rotten logo in the corner on their local broadcast. It's not there though from Ant TV, so far they are pure of heart.
Though, I might add, you may want to reconsider whether you should record their shows even with the logo. Some day in the future when these shows are no longer being broadcast you may be kicking yourself for not recording them when you had the chance. Seems all great TV channels that come along (TV Land, Hallmark, Game Show Channel, A&E, Bravo etc.) after a couple of years go by from their start-up turn into 24 hour a day crap fests, witness all the former great channels I mentioned. I hope this doesn't happen to Ant TV, but if history is a teacher in 4 or 5 years it'll be nothing but reality tv and lousy new shows.
Great old TV shows even with the lousy logo are better than nothing. After a while you no longer notice the logo anyway.

Great points all around, considering the alternatives and their squashed credits, voiceovers, stupid promos with dancing idiots popping up in the screen after every commercial break etc... I guess the logo isn't really worth griping about.

Yea I noticed that too. I've been recording the episodes from the 2nd season and forward, they skipped the 4th season christmas episode but I figured that would happen. I have the WWOR airing of that episode anyway.
Hazel Anyday 03-30-2011, 12:15 PM Ant TV has skipped the Christmas episodes of both Dennis The Menace & Hazel, most likely they are holding them for some Christmas special showing in December. But they did show the Christmas episode of Flying Nun. Go figure? I just hope they re-show all the Hazels over again so I can get the few shows that either my antenna messed up on or my recorder messed up on.
By the by, as they say, the uncut Christmas Hazel shows are available commercially on VHS tape. I bought the tape when it came out and it contains both the uncut b/w & color Christmas Hazels. I transferred it to DVD some years ago, looks great, but there you have 25 minute versions.

I think I saw that one. It was a mistake--probably the wrong print (network vs. syndication) sent to Antenna TV. It ran way over. This happened once with Diff'rent Strokes on BET a couple of years ago (and was corrected on a subsequent go-around).
1960'sTVfan 03-30-2011, 05:52 PM I missed the first four episodes of season 2, but I think those will be re-aired during the first few sundays in May. So I plan to record those shows at that time.
The season 5 shows started airing today. In the first episode of the season, Ernest Truex and Sylvia Field guest star as an elderly couple. They were also husband and wife in real life.
Ronny G 03-31-2011, 12:28 AM I just hope they re-show all the Hazels over again so I can get the few shows that either my antenna messed up on or my recorder messed up on.
I hope they re-show Hazel over again, too, because I want to re-record a few season 2 episodes where the voices went out of sync for a few minutes (not the whole episode).
The episodes are #46, "The Natural Athlete" and #48, "Herbert for Hire."
Did anyone else have this problem, or was it just a "local issue"?
Hazel Anyday: I know you mentioned elsewhere that you've been recording, but haven't been watching the episodes in their entirety, so you might want to watch those two episodes to see if they are in sync.
In the first episode of the season, Ernest Truex and Sylvia Field guest star as an elderly couple. They were also husband and wife in real life.
That's interesting to know. I love little trivia like that.:) I haven't seen much of Sylvia Field's work outside of Dennis.
Hazel Anyday 04-01-2011, 10:37 AM I saw Mrs. Wilson (Sylvia Field) in an episode of Perry Mason once, she played a shifty eyed woman, who you didn't know if you could trust. Also Ernest Truex (her husband) played in the Dennis the Menace Christmas episode "Dennis Wants A Horse", I think that was the title. Ernest played a guy who was selling Christmas trees the last time before he retired, he sold Mr. Wilson (George) a tree and later "sold" Dennis his horse that he delivered trees on. It was a very touching and well written program. The entire cast was perfect.
Ronny G, thanks for the heads up, I'll check those episodes, one of them (Natural Athlete) is a Thanksgiving episode, hope it's OK. I recorded all 4 Thanksgiving Hazels together on one DVD, but I still have room for a 5th show, that will be perfect space for the hopefully next-time repaired ANT TV airing of Natural Athlete. Luckily I have not finalized that Thanksgiving Hazel disc yet.
I believe "Hazel and the Vanishing Hero" is the Thanksgiving episode....."The Natural Athlete" is when Mr. B takes up bowling again. The "Barney Hatfield Where are You" was extremely messed up on A-TV. I"ll have to wait when it comes around again. I'm really enjoying the final season I had very few of them recorded.
1960'sTVfan 04-01-2011, 09:05 PM I haven't noticed any episodes to have an out of sync sound track, but I wouldn't see that as a big problem anyway. What I don't like is the shows are edited. And they show the same commercials over and over and over. My god, if they insist on having so many commercials the least they could do is put a little variety into it.
But despite the edited shows, I'm just glad these are airing again. I can record them myself and have a nice DVD set once all the shows are aired.
Hazel Anyday 04-04-2011, 10:13 AM "Mr. B" You are correct, sir! As Ed McMahn would say. You're right, that was the bowling show, not the show with Leif Ericson at Thanksgiving. I'll have to check out the Barney Hatfield show now too. Sheesh, sounds like Ant TV is messing up a lot. I have noticed on some of the shows the sound will have a blip of silence while the show is playing, the sound just blips out for a second. Weird. Looks like once I start actually watching and listening to these shows I may discover a lot of things I didn't expect.
Speaking of the Ant TV commercials, they must take the cake on worst and most unwatchable commercials ever produced. That abused animal commercial that seems to go on for an hour is atrocious. :shocked Absolutely horrible. I can't hit my commercial skip button fast enough as soon as I see that poor beast limping along, then I have to hit the minute skip button twice because that commercial goes on and on for more than 2 min.! Really the pits and unwatchable. The acne commercials are 2nd in the gross out commercial dept. And what's with that sap in those constant commercials for him wanting a "soft" bed while his manly wife wants a hard bed to sleep on. :explode: Talk about the media trying to feminize men, this takes the cake in subtle brainwashing dept. Ant TV needs to scrap all their horrible unwatchable ads. How about a nice ad for Jello or Pillsbury dough boy biscuits? I'd even applaud a mayonaise commercial, :clap or a Joy liquid commercial would be a pleasure after the string of sickening Ant TV choice commercials. And I'm complaining about these commericals even though I skip thru them 99% of the time since whenever I watch Ant TV it's always from my recordings. So if these Ant TV commercials bother me this much even when I skip thru them, I pity the foo who has to actually sit thru these affronts to human decency.:(
Ronny G 04-05-2011, 01:05 AM I know what you mean, re: Antenna TV commercials.
I'll be enjoying some really good classic comedies and belly laughs:lol: , and then the commercials bring me back down and make me sad.:(
The commercial I find most depressing is the one where the elderly lady slips and falls in the bathtub, and goes days without help before her daughter discovers her.
It depresses me because it makes me wonder if that will happen to me when/if(?) I get old. I guess I'll just buy a medi-alert bracelet.:(
1960'sTVfan 04-05-2011, 11:24 AM One good commercial on Antenna TV is the one for JG Wentworth 877 CASH NOW. Participants in the commercial sing in operetta style. That is a good commercial, but they don't show it too often.
1960'sTVfan 04-07-2011, 06:06 PM How about that, looks like another uncut Hazel was shown today. "Hazel's Endearing Young Charms" looks to have been shown uncut. While it's nice an occasional uncut episode gets aired, it also makes me wonder why ALL the episodes aren't shown uncut.

Thats awesome! I know when Antenna TV launched they said they were going to air them the way they received them from Sony if so its too bad Sony didnt send more uncut episodes.
Hazel Anyday 04-08-2011, 09:20 AM I knew it was a good sign when they included the opening prologue scene BEFORE they started the credits. Those opening prologues are always the first to go. Columbia did the same for Dennis the Menace, those shows also had opening prologues, but ANT TV cuts them out. Nickelodian included them when they ran the show in the late '80's and early '90's, Nickelodian would show uncut Dennis episodes. Funny how excited you can get over seeing an additional 2 and 1/2 minutes of these classic shows. I'd love it if ANT TV could show all uncut Hazel's and Dennis'. But I'm thrilled to see them when they pop up.
By the way, the quality of these Steve Baxter shows (except for the occasional one) are the best looking Steve Baxter era shows I've ever seen. Their skin color is actually orange and not a faded out white or worse faded light green like I've always seen before when WOR used to run them. The Steve Baxter shows were always the worst looking of the Hazel series, but now ANT TV has corrected that situation. While ANT TV is not perfect, I wish they'd show a lot more TV shows from the '50's and '60's, they are the next thing to perfect that a vintage TV channel can be. No crunched credits, no ads playing or scrolls going while the show is being played, no annoying annoucers talking over the credits theme music, and every once in a while they let an uncut episode slip in! I love this channel, best since the first couple of years of TV Land, now of course, TV Land is nothing but crap, but when it started it was also great. I hope ANT TV keeps it up and doesn't start running reality shows and lousy new shows the way TV Land does now. Vintage TV shows is all I ask, you can keep your "new productions" in File 13.
