Seems to be a mixed bag of Hazel's on ANT TV. Seems one show will look great, better than I've seen it before, then the very next episode will look green or dark or purplish, at any rate it's not looking restored. But as I've said seems for every unrestored episode they show they show 2 restored shows, at least better than I've ever seen. Yesterday their George wins the lottery show was dark and purplish, but the episode shown just before looked like the best version I've ever seen before.

So it's odd they are not showing all restored shows but only most are seemingly restored.

I noticed that, too! The best episode I've seen so far is the one about the baby from season 3, episode 95 "Arrivederci, Mr. B". Very sharp picture and vibrant colors.

Have to agree, some episodes look sharp with bright vibrant colors. Others look blurry and the colors are off and faded. But the real problem is the episodes are the syndicated edited versions. But it's better than nothing until the complete unedited series is out on DVD, if that ever happens. I look forward to the season 5 airings. I like the final season with Lynn Borden and Ray Fulmer.

I make this post with a heavy heart as I was informed a few days ago that my father of 78 years old has passed away. It seems he may have had a heart attack, he was found unresponsive in his apartment. I'm feeling a lot of emotional pain right now, I don't want to believe this happened. I just spoke to my father a few weeks ago, now he's gone. I had sent him a DVD of a movie he wanted to see, he told me he enjoyed it and it brought back some memories. I'm glad it made him happy. My father was a good man, he was fond of animals and lived in his apartment with his dog and cats. Rest in peace, dad. I love you and will always remember the good times we shared.

Practically all the old Screen Gems syndication prints, controlled by Sony, are crap. Once in awhile there is a 'gem' in there. If they would ever go back and make DVD copies off the original prints, then we would see something good. I saw one the other day where the chopped out most of the closing credits. And of course, we NEVER see the original Screen Gems logos.

I now have all the color Hazels recorded except for the first four shows of season 2. I should be able to record those episodes soon as they are supposed to air during the first few Sundays in May. Too bad the episodes are edited, but it's better than nothing until the complete unedited series is out on DVD, if that ever happens.

I also have the next to last episode of the series, #153, uncut from 16mm film with original commercials which is rather cool.

Did Antenna TV skip episode #150: "Hazel's Free Enterprise?"

I'm a little behind in my viewing, but I recorded the show everyday, and it appears they skipped it-- unless they showed it out of order on an earlier date. Anybody know what happened?:confused: :confused:

Hazels Free Enterprise was aired in it's proper spot in the episode order. The only episodes that were skipped are License To Wed from season 2 and the Christmas episode from season 4.

I made a mistake while editing out the commercials.

Here's what happened: At the beginning of "Hazel's Free Enterprise", Barbara tells Hazel that she found a pool table for Steve. A real bargain, but she doesn't have enough money, so Hazel tells her it isn't a bargain if she doesn't have enough money.
So, without watching the rest of the episode, I jumped to conclusions :crazy: and labeled it, "Who Can afford a Bargain?" :crazy: That's why I couldn't find it. Fortunately, I didn't finalize the disc as it was still on my hard drive so I was able to change the title.
I guess that's what happens when you record to many shows at the same time: Dennis, Hazel, Maude, and the Flying Nun on weekends. I can't keep up.

I left the commercials in my Hazel recordings, the commercials don't bother me that much and it's too much hassle to edit them out.

One of the better looking color episodes was the single season one ep., shown recently.

I cut the commercials out too, I wouldn't bother except ANT shows 2 episodes in a row with no commercial break in between shows, so you can't set the timer to tape the 2nd show without missing the beg. or the end of the previous show. So I recorded the whole hour on DVD-RAM disc then separated them and titled them separately onto the permanent disc with all the (sickening ANT) commercials cut out. Otherwise you're going to wind up with 2 Hazel's bundled up with no way of getting to each separate episode and not to mention not having any titles on your disc for the hour long blop. I hate discs without episode titles and episode separation on the menu, I like to look at a menu, see the names of the episodes and click on which one I want. Call me persnickity. I also don't want to sit thru those horrible abused animal commercials again, another good reason to edit out the "commercials". A permanent record of that?, no thanks.

Most of the commercials don't bother me, I just don't like it that some of the same ones are repeated over and over. One good commercial is the ad for JG Wentworth, I think that one aired during Hazel episode 106.

To make the 2nd show accessible, you can put a chapter mark at the beginning of the 2nd episode. This way you don't have to split the episodes apart. It's a lot easier. And then I just mark the 2nd episode (on the box) as (chapter stop). Of course, splitting the episodes works too...

I am now recording the shows all over again this time I'm not transferring, just recording the one hour blops directly to DVD-R and marking these as 4-18 and 4-19 as example instead of writing out the titles, since I don't have room to spell out 2 separate titles. Anyway, it's easier this way, no dubbing each night, just one hour blops, which I really don't like. But in the end I'll have both versions, my SP edited separate episodes and another set of LP speed one hour blops. I found when I dubbed some of the episodes I got a jerky motion when the characters moved quickly across the screen, this is why I decided to go ahead and record them all over again this time without dubbing and separating, just direct recordings to DVD-R. I can just jump my way to the 1/2 hour mark with the remote.

My DVD recorder is older, and it has a hard drive built it. You can insert a chapter stop while viewing, or in a separate editing function. I record the 1 hour to the hard drive, insert a chapter stop while viewing, edit out commercials, and then transfer to DVD-R. At SP spped each DVD-R holds 5 1/2 hour episodes, for me. You can avoid jerky motion and lip sync problems by always using SP speed, in my experience.

The chapter stop, to me, is much easier than dividing the titles. For one thing, the stations run things so 'tight' now, you almost always chop off content when dividing.

My recorder does not have a hard drive. I think my jerky picture came about because the recorder I used to play back the original (SP, by the way) recordings was not the same one that I used to record the shows onto that DVD-Ram disc. I played the DVD-Ram disc back on a different player and recorded the programs on the same recorder I used to originally record the DVD-Ram disc. Probably, if I had used the same recorder to both record and play back that same DVD-Ram disc onto a DVD-R disc on a different recorder then I may not have had that jerky fast motion effect. I did use SP speed to both record on the original DVD-Ram disc and used SP when I recorded it on DVD-R. I had no problem in separating the shows when dubbing them over, I simply hit the stop after the credits for the 1st show and hit record and started recording the 2nd show after starting it a few seconds before the opening appears. Separating wasn't a problem, the strobe effect I didn't realize I was getting till I recently started actually watching the DVD-R discs I had dubbed onto. Now I'll just record another set (as long as ANT TV is showing these in epis. guide order it makes it nice when watching them when playing back), but this new set I'm recording will be done in LP speed and in the one hour blops without any editing from me. I'll just have to fast forward thru the commercials in my future LP DVD-R set. My SP set looks beautiful though with individually titled episodes and all in SP speed.

One thing I noticed though on ANT TV, the picture is always either slightly blurry or very blurry, if you're watching All In The Family especially. The Hazels are all just a little slightly blurred, so having them in LP speed isn't losing any quality since they're blurry even when watching live and when recorded in SP speed, it's blurry, so I know it's not my recorders doing it.

My Hazel recordings from Antenna TV are on 16 DVD's, 4 discs each for seasons 2 thru 5. Picture and sound quality is superb. I left the commercials in, it's too much hassle trying to edit them out. The commercials don't bother me anyhow, I don't mind watching the shows with commercials included. A couple of my 5th season episodes have an annoying public service message scrolling on the screen for a few seconds. I won't sweat it too much because the episodes are edited anyway, had all the Hazels been aired uncut I would re-record the defective ones when they air again. I figure these home recorded DVD's are just needed temporary as Shout Factory is going to release the season 2 DVD, I imagine the episodes will be uncut and hopefully seasons 3 to 5 will be released also.
