Also, I had a phone interview a few months ago on a Friday afternoon. By Monday, I already received the rejection letter in the mail. I swear she was typing it up during the interview. But good luck, Marv! I hope you got the call. Tweety 03-28-2011, 11:05 PM Good luck, Marvo! They would be crazy not to have you. Might be a good idea to fire off a "thank you for the interview" e-mail to whomever you interviewed with. They'll read it Monday morning. I know it's after the fact by this time, but that's definitely a good idea, after ANY interview. In fact, even better would be to have a set of thank you cards and stamped envelopes available with you in your car... right after the interview, write a quick thank you note and drop it in the nearest mailbox, since the envelope is already stamped, you just have to address it. Even though in most cases, people prefer email to snail mail, people appreciate someone taking a few minutes to actually write a real note on real paper. In any event, there's no excuse NOT to send a thank you message of SOME kind after being granted an interview, even regardless of how the interview might have actually gone. Marvo301 03-28-2011, 11:11 PM The phone didn't ring today. I assume that means there is a better job waiting for me elsewhere! Thanks for all the well wishes, good thoughts, and prayers everyone! You are a great group of friends! catlover79 03-28-2011, 11:48 PM I'm so sorry, Marv. Their loss!!! Crimson and Clover 03-29-2011, 12:28 AM The phone didn't ring today. I assume that means there is a better job waiting for me elsewhere! Thanks for all the well wishes, good thoughts, and prayers everyone! You are a great group of friends! Oh well their loss. catlover79 03-29-2011, 12:37 AM I know the feeling all too well, Marv!!! Mr. Television 03-29-2011, 12:56 AM The phone didn't ring today. I assume that means there is a better job waiting for me elsewhere! Thanks for all the well wishes, good thoughts, and prayers everyone! You are a great group of friends! I'm so sorry Marv. :( ponytail 03-29-2011, 06:27 AM Sorry to hear that. I agree, it's their loss. old grouch 03-29-2011, 10:56 AM Keep your chin up. You'll get something soon. TripperFan 03-29-2011, 11:29 AM Hang in there buddy. As others have said, they're loss. That, or I've even seen it where it took a couple of weeks and then out of the blue you'll get the call. Sometimes something comes up at the company that needs more urgent attention. Or the hiring manager isn't available, etc.. All might not be lost yet. But of course, keep applying. It's tough out there these days for sure. Used to be I'd be getting interviews within the first 5 resume submissions. This time it's brutal - absolutely nothing. And that one I was rejected by the computer by was really bad. I took the time to get in touch with a former co-worker, who knew the VP of HR and I was able to get an introduction there. I also used to work with the president of this company (he was my customer). My email and resume got passed DOWN to the recruiter who phoned me to say the position was likely well below me and to apply thru their website. So I do that, and get knocked out of the system. So, so much for even networking these days! It's extra work for nothing. So, back to the boards this week. ugh! And yah, what Tweety says is bang on, and I love the idea of having thank you cards ready to go. Although make sure they're not generic - you have to mention something from the interview and how you'd be a great fit to this specific company. It's a full time job just getting one. ;) OH Nuts! 03-30-2011, 11:51 AM The phone didn't ring today. I assume that means there is a better job waiting for me elsewhere! Thanks for all the well wishes, good thoughts, and prayers everyone! You are a great group of friends! Another possibility could be they haven't made a hiring decision yet or may have not gotten final approval to hire. That has happened on my current job. I'm the exec. asst. for someone high in the organization and I know there have been folks they wanted to hire on the spot but couldn't - because of hiring freezes that they thought were lifted but weren't etc. So hang in there. And like others have said - ALWAYS send a thank you note. I personally like doing snail mail - it has a charm to it and shows you took a lot of effort. Or do both snail mail and email. To ensure they get it. I know of at least one instance where the decision was down to three people and the one who didn't send the thank-you got bumped. The other two got 2nd interviews. Dina Sylvia Li 03-30-2011, 12:03 PM That happened to me, at my current job at Verizon, sometimes the descision stalls for whatever reason. Keep hope Marv! |
