A decade ago, Daly was the heir apparent to Dick Clark. Now he's on TV in the middle of the night while Seacrest has emerged as a media mogul and host of the No. 1 show. But Daly, who has dinner with Seacrest every year just before New Year's Eve, hopes to revive his career as host of "Idol" knockoff "The Voice."

...and "THE VOICE" isn't a "knock-off". It, like "AMERICAN IDOL", is adapted from a foreign talent competition, "THE VOICE OF HOLLAND", which became more popular than their version of "IDOL". Now, as usual, NBC wants to save a little money over the summer {what, schedule another of those imported dramatic series Ben Silverman loves so much, and watch those ratings slowly decline to nothing???} and generate some "buzz", as "THE SING-OFF" and "AMERICA'S GOT TALENT" have already done.

As for Carson Daly, he's NBC's equivalent to ABC's Tom Bergeron- he attracts enough viewers for the desired demographic the network wants, and this is their attempt to broaden his appeal beyond "LAST CALL" [and possibly as a reward for signing a new contract with them]. Well, I'm sure he'll get his "big break" outside of late night with "THE VOICE"......
