"Wonder Woman" First Look of Adrianne Palicki in Costume

Anyone who doubted that "Friday Night Lights" star Adrianne Palicki could fill "Wonder Woman's" bustier and boots can now judge for themselves.




NBC on Friday released the first image of Palicki in costume for the "Wonder Woman" reboot.

In February, she was confirmed to play the DC Comics hero -- along with alter egos Diana Prince and Themyscira Industries C.E.O. Diana Themyscira.




As you can see, she's wearing Wonder Woman's signature colors, the bullet-proof bracelets and Lasso of truth.

Although the shiny vinyl gives the costume an old-school feel, the blue boots and leggings differ from Lynda Carter's red boots and bare legs from the classic 1970s series.

...at first glance, Adrianne's "Wonder Woman" look appears to be an amalgam of Lynda Carter's costume {by Donfeld} and Cathy Lee Crosby's 1974 "reimagined" outfit (by Bill Thomas)...and her attitude is more in tune with the recent comic book incarnation.

However, one reason the original 1974 TV movie pilot, featuring Crosby, failed to become a weekly series was because it took itself too seriously. When Stanley Ralph Ross wrote the 1975 TV pilot featuring Lynda Carter, he returned the setting to its original World War II framework, which had a slight tongue-in-cheek sense of humor along with the action, the "hissable" Nazi villains and Lynda's gorgeous figure (and Lyle Waggoner's "Major Steve Trevor" for the female audience). That clicked, and it became a weekly success for ABC...until chief programmer Fred Silverman decided it was "expendable" in 1977. CBS then picked it up for the fall of '77...then the producers took a slight misstep by updating the time frame to "the present" (and making Lynda's costume more like a low-cut bathing suit; that's the one you often see whenever a photo of Lynda's "Wonder Woman" is seen these days). Then, Lynda decided to slowly "phase" Lyle Waggoner out of the story {and it's apparent there won't be any equivalent of "Steve Trevor" in the new series, either}, and the series lasted two more seasons before it quietly ended in 1979.

As for the idea that Diana is now head of a major corporation, that's kind of defeating the purpose of being "Wonder Woman": why would a woman already in "power" want to be a symbol of something even more powerful? The idea of a "super hero"- or "super heroine"- is for someone who's supposedly "normal" like the rest of us, and not generally known as being an ultra-courageous or "take charge" type, to become someone who can do incredible things when assuming another identity {i.e. "that man with the red cape"...or "ATOMIC BETTY"}. I certainly hope the writers are up to the challenge of making "Wonder Woman" a TV icon again....and at the same time, don't forget her origins.

"Wonder Woman" Costume Altered After Fan Outcry

Not long ago, NBC released the first official image of Adrianne Palicki as Wonder Woman.

David E. Kelley wrote the pilot, and though it's not guaranteed to survive past the pilot stage, fans of the DC superhero are just excited to see someone finally doing something with the character, instead of more mindless chatter about some mysterious script maybe being written.





Problems quickly arose, however, when pretty much everyone immediately crapped all over the new Wonder Woman look, saying the costume was too shiny, looked more like a Sexy Wonder Woman Halloween costume than a legit, badass superhero get-up and, well, a bit much on the red lipstick, no?

Wonder Woman is fighting criminals, not giving them lap dances.






Anyway, some new images have surfaced of Palicki on set, and look at what we have here -- they've changed the costume!

Yup, the blue high-heel boots are now flat-bottom red boots, and her pants are no longer shiny and plastic-looking, but a muted navy blue. And the super-duper-red lipstick? Um, what lipstick?!
