As good as the episode "In the Soup" is, do you think it would have been even better if Larry had Whitey's lines?! LOL!! It almost sounds like the script was written before Rusty moved away. The mannerisms of the script, just sound like things that Larry would coax Beaver into doing more than Whitey.

Picture Larry conning Beaver into thinking there was real soup in the bowl! LOL!

And instead of Whitey's parents hearing about it, as the crowd gathers with the fire department there, it would have been laughter beyond comprehension if Mrs. Mondello in her nervous voice would have shown up and started yelling at Larry:

Larry's Mother: "Now, Larry, I want to know why poor Beaver is up there in that soup bowl? Oh, when you father gets home, he's gonna really get to the bottom of this!"

Larry: "Gee Mom, I didn't do nothing! Beaver kept saying that there was real soup in the bowl, and I told him there wasn't. But he had to climb up to see. Than he fell in the soup, and that's how come he got stuck!"

Larry: "Oh Larry!" I wish you would do these things when your father's home!" LOL!!!!

Yeah it would have been interesting to see Larry in that role instead of Whitey.

I think Whitey did a good job in that episode being the antagonist. Larry had his funny moments but he was basically a goofy kid who usually didn't know what he was doing. Whitey was a little smarter than that.

Many times, the humorous part of Larry being in episodes was when his mother also appeared.

Acress Madge Blake always seemed to have that kind of role. Not only was she "Mrs. Mondello", but also "Flora McMichael" in The Real McCoys and "Aunt Harriet" in Batman. I wonder if there are any movies or TV shows where she had a dramatic part?

I don't think it really mattered which of Beaver's friends talked him into climbing the billboard. But maybe thanks should be given to Larry for setting the pattern for all of them and their seeing Beaver's gullibililty and taking advantage of it.

On that related note, what is the worst devious thing each of Beaver's friends did to him in that way? With Whitey, it has to be the this one about getting him to climb the billboard. Larry: I can think of at least 3 that about tie-- getting him to buy the bow & arrow set for himself instead of the camera for Wally's birthday present; talking him into playing hooky because they would be late for school for the 3rd time in a week; and getting him to give Larry his homeword because of the "Damon and Pythias" pact they had just made. Gilbert: maybe talking him into flying the kite Beaver and Ward made for Kite Day and, of course, busting it. Richard: talking him into sneaking Beaver's jacket home and bringing it back in the morning. His occasional friend, Alan, was in on those situations abetting the others, as in the agreement to wear their monster shirts to school and calling Don Drysdale.

Larry is my favorite of Beaver's friends. But Whitey was perfect in this episode, I love his mischievous grin.

With Larry, I would go with these:

- The smoking of the meerschaum pipe

- Inadvertent drilling of 2 holes in the side of the garage (Beaver was not allowed to use power tools to begin with)

- Tearing of Beaver's good suit pants while teeter-tottering at the construction site (not supposed to play there, especially not in his best clothes)

With Larry, I would go with these:

The reason I don't include that one is because that is all Larry did-- just tell Beaver a silly rumor. The complications began when Beaver snuck into her office trying to find it and got locked in. Beaver caused the calamity himself; unlike when Whitey dared Beaver to climb that billboard, Larry didn't dare Beaver to go see for himself if there was a spanking machine.

Yeah but he put the idea in Beaver's head.

I personally enjoyed all the episodes with Larry involved more so then all the other boys and to answer your question Jack, I do think I would have liked the soup episode even better had Larry been the one there instead of Whitey.
