Did season 1 not sell well? Are music rights holding up the next season? Does anybody even care if this show never has another season on DVD???

Season 1 did not sell well because Fox used a lot of replacement music rather than pay for all of the expensive music rights. Some fans were upset about the replacement music and refused to buy the DVD's. So Fox decided to shelve any future plans for this series. This is unfortunate because I enjoyed season 1 even with the replacement music. This is still a hilarious show no matter what music is used. It's a shame that because a few fans made a big deal about replacement music on season one the rest of don't get any more seasons of this great show on DVD.

It wasn't just that, Mary. They also used already-edited syndication prints or cut scenes that involved any sort of music. If I recall correctly, some of the episodes didn't run any longer than they would have on Nick at Nite or a similar network. Also, jokes were cut or didn't make any sense because their setups had been cut or changed. For that sort of product, fans were expected to pay top-level prices, and enough of them (rightfully, in my view) refused. I know I did. What made it worse was that Hugh Wilson endorsed the cuts, apparently feeling that hald a loaf was better than none, and that was another wrong move in my view, especially since the cuts were so drastic. There are lists of them if you Google "WKRP in Cincinnati DVD".

Looks like (for now at least) the only way to see this on DVD is go the bootleg route.

Unfortunately the only way to get this series on DVD is to go bootleg. Thats a shame too. There were some great music on those old shows. Greed is what its all about in this day and age. Well if you try www. kicka**torents.com you may find some original ones. Just saying.....

they didn't even TRY to get the rights to any of the music - pathetic.

they even took out Jennifer's distinctive doorbell ringing in her apartment!! (and ruined all of those scenes in the process)

Honestly, since I wasn't around to watch the show the original time it was on, I probably wouldn't pay all that much attention to the music and get mad if its not the original, but the fact that the show is pretty much butchered bothers me. I probably shouldn't but instead of waiting for the cheapskates to realease the rest of the dvds, I just got the rest myself.

^ I normally don't go the bootleg route myself (since the quality varies), but for WKRP I will have to make an exception. I did buy season one and though that even with the replacement music, I thought it was still worth it for the interviews in the special features.

I'd be curious to know if anyone bought a bootleg and what they thought of it.

The quality and if the episodes were entirely intact.

I'm not supporting this- I am just curious.

Not that I would agree with bootleging either, however if you would like to download the untouched versions with the original music then I suggest you go here:

I never bought from this site but It gets mixed reviews. The price is great. I don't know if they are bootlegs though. They are stated as Gneric. I guess it can't hurt to check it out.
