I know a majority of people will disagree with me, but the earlier shows on MF were funnier, IMO. Mainly because Vicki Lawrence was playing a real grandma. Later on, she was just playing herself in a wig mostly. I did like Bubba and Iola, but I think that by the last few Seasons (esp) after Hawaii, the show kind of jumped the shark. The earliest episodes are some of my favorites including "Gert Rides Again", "No Room At The Inn", "Mama Gets A Job", and "RoshahanaMama".

... "Mama Gets A Job", and "RoshahanaMama".
Those are two of my favorites too.
In "Mama Gets a Job," when Mama's asked if she knows how to answer the telephone, she says something like "No, usuallly when it rings at my house, I run around in little circles goin' 'what'll I do? What'll I do?'" LMAO
and "RoshahanaMama," any time you get Eunice and Ellen (Carol Burnett and Betty White) together, it's gonna be a riot! Three versions of how Mama got knocked out--was it Eunice, Ellen or Naomi?
For the rest of the earlier episodes, most were OK, I didn't care too much for Vince's kids, I didn't find them that funny...so the few episodes where one of them was the central focus of the storyline, weren't the best IMO. I think that was part of the reason they were dropped when the show went from NBC to first-run syndication, plus the fact that they dumbed-down Vint and Naomi to achieve greater comedic effect. The Vint from the later seasons wouldn't have made the most believable father to two teens

The early shows were more like a true dysfuntional family, and like real life where as the later shows were more typical sitcom joke punchline type formula.
And I thoguht Vint was much more strict and rough in the earlier shows.
