View Full Version : Get Smart Again
The Flying Dutchmans 03-05-2011, 02:41 AM I just bought the DVD of this show, and although I have seen it before, it has been awhile and I would just like to comment on it now. I believe it was made for TV and that it was made in 1985. Anyway, I have seen every get smart remake which I thought was badly done, but I was surprised at this one. This remake held true to the original series. It was so funny that it had me practically rolling on the floor laughing. With the exception of the chief (Edward Platt) who was no longer with us at `the time of this shows filming, everyone was there. Max---99---Sigfried--Shtalker, Hymie and Larabie. Wow it was as if I was watching the original series again. I completely love this Movie. Too bad they didn't make a sequel to it.
tv star collector 03-05-2011, 04:45 PM "Get Smart Again!" first aired, on ABC, in 1988. Yes, it was a made-for-TV movie and it was way better than the the 1980 theatrical film "The Nude Bomb" (a.k.a. "The Return of Maxwell Smart"). Besides assembling most of
the original cast, "Get Smart Again" was directed by Gary Nelson (who directed many episodes of the original series); and the story was written by
Leonard Stern, the producer of the original series. Although the 1980 movie
was written by Arne Sultan, Bill Dana and Stern, it appears to be rather
sloppily made; and Barbara Feldon's presence is sorely needed. They didn't
even bother to explain 99's absence or mention whether Max is still married to
her!
ClassicTVGal 03-12-2011, 12:43 PM Yes, it was done in 1988.
And I personally *love* this movie. It's definitely a fav of mine.
McGillicuddy 11-15-2012, 09:16 PM Does anyone know if there was a descent "print" release of Get Smart!, Again? It is listed on Amazon, as being released on DVD, 3 times, in 2003, 04 and 07. Most of the reviews say its a good sequel to the series, but the picture is poor quality.
With all the extras included on the Time-Life Complete Series, you would think this made-for-TV movie would have been included in the set.
Anyway, I would like to have the best quality release of this movie, the only Get Smart related show, I'm missing.

I bought it off Amazon and the version I got was released by Peach Arch entertainment in 2004 and I don't remember the quality being bad on it when I watched it.
The Flying Dutchmans 11-30-2012, 04:34 PM Mine is a very good quality. I am satisfied with it.
McGillicuddy 11-30-2012, 06:04 PM I just received a DVD copy I ordered online. Very satisfied with it. I am currently watching the complete series set, and naturally wanted the reunion movie. Its pretty good.
I also have Get Smart: The Nude Bomb and Get Smart the 1995 tv series sequel. Niether of these are supposed to be as good as Get Smart, Again.

Yesss! forgot about him.
treky 12-23-2012, 01:32 AM I like the scene in it where Max walk into Controls old headquarters and sees Larabie and he says "LARABIE!" Larabie turns and says "Oh hi Max, got my egg salad sandwhich?" Max says there's been noone there for 15 years or something and he says "Oh, no wonder it's been so quiet around here."
danmanx 03-29-2013, 04:17 AM Ah...Get Smart Again...my favorite made-for-tv movie of all time. Some funny things I liked from it:
99 and Max have a cone of silence.
Shtarker even comes back!
Siegfried and Max together!
Feels like an episode.
The TV movie was dedicated to Ed Platt.
AND NO ANDY DICK. :)
BTW, my copy is literally unwatchable. Sound is very low. Still watch it though.
caladon 09-06-2013, 06:44 PM I had the opportunity to discuss "Get Smart, Again." with Bernie Kopell at a collector's show a few years back. He agreed that "Get Smart, Again" is what should've been made instead of "The Nude Bomb."
