ScentScape Set to Bring Smell-O-Vision To Your Living Room

Technologically speaking, we live in some pretty amazing times.

The San Jose-based company is set to debut a new piece of technology later this year – one that promises to revolutionize the way you play videogames (and potentially view films). That's right, the brainiacs at Scent Sciences Corporating have invented what we've all dreamed (and laughed...) about: Smell-O-Vision.
The company is calling their new device ScentScape and promise that it will add one more layer of immersiveness to your gaming and film viewing experience.
The company isn't the first to try and merge smells with images, but the ScentScape is designed to work in your home, not in a packed movie theater.
ScentScape™ is an innovative digital scent delivery system which provides the extra dimension of scent to gaming, entertainment and other consumer markets.
Scent Sciences' technologies enriches the user experience by layering scents to enhance immersion and presence with unique delivery hardware, software and services.
According to Scent Sciences, the device plugs into the USB port of a PC, gaming console or other entertainment device. It allows the user to custom add scent information during the editing of home videos, or can respond to "scent enabled media" to release specific smells related to the action in videogames or films.
The brochure mentions smelling the Na'vi in Avatar before you actually see them.

The ScentScape retails for $69.99 and comes with a cartridge that provides 20 basic scents that will last at least 200 hours in heavy use. Additional cartridges can be purchased separately.
