View Full Version : Whom does Jo like the most? Shelley 12-31-2001, 12:36 PM so? Warm & Fuzzy 12-31-2001, 02:49 PM I don't think the girls really played "favorites" but if I were to pick one, Mrs G. ABlairican Pie 12-31-2001, 02:58 PM Without repeating myself with the thing about Blair, one of the things that also makes Jo a candidate for "swinging the other way" is, she DID spend NINE years with a girl she ALLEGEDLY "couldn't stand". Also, Nancy McKeon played a child of a lesbian couple in a late '70s movie called " A Question of Love". Curve Magazine earlier this year speculated the FOL Reunion movie would feature Jo coming out of the closet--which didn't happen of course. NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!!! ;) Hollow 12-31-2001, 03:06 PM Ya probably mrs g. Warm & Fuzzy 12-31-2001, 03:39 PM Originally posted by Tad Warner -Curve Magazine earlier this year speculated the FOL Reunion movie would feature Jo coming out of the closet--which didn't happen of course. NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!!! ;) LOL! That's funny! Really? Kay Scarpetta 12-31-2001, 03:51 PM I think she likes everyone. JO coming out of the closet?? ABlairican Pie 12-31-2001, 04:26 PM If anyone is curious about whether Jo was bi-curious, check out Curve Dec. 'OO (?) Vol. 10, #8, with Mariel Hemingway on the cover in the article "Our Favorite TV Lesbians", and April '01, Vol. 11, #2, on page 38-39. Of course I'm kidding about Blair and Jo having a "thing" going, but some people like to keep guessing about the amiguity of Jo's "tomboy" character. Haven't yet seen "The Division", but I kind of understand Nancy not wanting to be on the Reunion movie probably out of feeling "out of place" as being a tough cop on another show--even though it sure would've added something! NancyMcKeon/LisaWelchel#1 12-31-2001, 04:55 PM I think Jo was close to everyone...and that statement about Jo "coming out of the closet" is appaling!!! I mean come on!! she got married to a man in the final season and had a child!! (I'm sorry if i'm starting to freak out but this statement is completly false to me!!) ABlairican Pie 12-31-2001, 05:00 PM I know she wasn't gay, I was only kidding!! Lesbian magazine Curve hinted that she was. ks 12-31-2001, 05:31 PM That magazine can blow it out there gucci bag. I find it sad that if you'r a tomboy people automaticlaly assume you are gay. Also, I doubt the reason NMK didn't do the reunion movie was because of feeling out of place. I think she is strong in her perception of the character of Jo, and I'm sure the perception isn't that Jo is a lesbian-that is so dumb to even think that. To get off that subject... I think Jo is close to Blair in a friendship manner that is really amazing and good for them both. However, Mrs. G. was the first one to reach out to Jo, and Jo will never forget that... ks vienna waits 12-31-2001, 05:44 PM Blair JDS84 12-31-2001, 09:20 PM Blair and Mrs G. ISmellFine 01-01-2002, 12:04 AM Blair. PhoenixMcKeonism 01-01-2002, 12:26 AM  I dont want to sink back into that subject again... but what "Tad Warner" said ... the way it was said... it didnt sound funny or a joke to me. I dont understand why people assume girls that are "tomboyish" have to be lesbians... i mean thats just ignorant. Another thing... there is no reason to believe that Jo was ever a lesbian.... first of all.... throughout the show.. she has dated guys and talked about guys almost married some dude back in the 2nd season... and got married in the last season on the show.... I was personally offended by that statement that was mentioned in the first post so I'll leave it at that. Jo's best friendship would have to be Blair... because Jo wouldnt of wasted her time tormenting and arguing with Blair for like what... eight years... if she hated blair... I dont know why but i voted for Natalie at first... so that one on the results for natalie... thats mine LOL :D IMakeBurgers 01-01-2002, 12:30 AM Blair! ABlairican Pie 01-01-2002, 12:35 AM Just kidding, folks! Yeah, that mag can blow it out its Gucci bag, but I just only refer to it only because of twisted trivia --IF YOU'RE REALLY INTERESTED!! I don't--and no one should--assume that anyone's a lesbian if you're a tomboy. As a person who has met Lisa Whelchel and her family this summer, she has said in her "Creative Corrections" book that her youngest daughter acts like a tomboy (and she's only 8), she wears denim and acts aloof. But it would be totally PREPOSTEROUS to assume that her daughter would be "gay"!! Kids are just kids. I meant also that by Nancy feeling "out of place" on the FOL reunion movie, I am supposing that her "tough-cop-on-the-Division" role might have seemed out of sync on the FOL movie, if that may have been a factor in why she chose not to appear. I think it was mainly scheduling conflicts for her. You know, why do people stretch other people's words out and make them TOTALLY OPPOSITE what a person is trying to say?!! I say, relax, take a bubble bath, and watch the Ellen show. The only way to world peace. Shelley 01-01-2002, 01:33 AM Originally posted by Tori Spelling I was personally offended by that statement that was mentioned in the first post so I'll leave it at that. I didn't mean to offend anyone. When that guy said that stuff, so I changed my post. Now I changed my post again. Paula 01-01-2002, 04:06 AM Not to bring up the subject again (sorry y'all...I know you want to drop it now), but Tori Spelling, I can understand why that kind of statement offends you. I myself am not tomboyish or a lesbian, but I've had a roommate who WAS tomboyish and totally NOT a lesbian, so I know what you mean. In any case, I know that some people might question "Jo's" sexuality just for kicks, but what's the point? Jo is just a fictional character- what is there to question about her? She is whatever the writers of the show want her to be- and obviously she was a tomboyish and straight. But even if they wanted her to be a lesbian, who cares? ABlairican Pie 01-01-2002, 05:57 AM OKAY, PEOPLE, I AM SO BLOODY SORRY YOU DIDN'T GET THE STINKIN' JOKE!! YOU GUYS ARE WORSE THAN FUNDAMENTALIST CHRISTIANS--ABOUT TO BURN ME AT THE STAKE OVER YOUR PRECIOUS, PRECIOUS JO!!!! I HAVE SEEN EVERY EPISODE A ZILLION TIMES OVER!!!! I KNOW THAT JO WAS INTO GUYS!!!! I KNOW THAT JO GOT MARRIED!!!! THERE WAS NOTHING TO INDICATE THAT THERE WAS ANYTHING GOING ON BETWEEN JO AND BLAIR!!!! IT'S A LONG RUNNING JOKE THAT I DID NOT EVEN START!!!! Entirely SPECULATION. Look, I think Nancy McKeon is a great actress. I think Jo was a great character. I am merely toying with the idea of what certain gay authors have thought about Jo's character. You buffoons get so DEFENSIVE over a silly comment made by someone else entirely. Are you guys really that homophobic?? Why can't we have FUN on this site?? This is like Jesus-olatry, where we focus less on what He said and did and develop a cult of personality about Him. EVERY SINGLE LESSON ON FOL WAS CRYSTAL CLEAR. The whole topic of gayness was a subject hardly ever brought up--briefly touched on in a few episodes (The one where Blair secretly accused Cindy of being "that way" because she was a tomboy and hugged girls, and also where Blair's sister Meg was called a lesbian by her parents). I am not sure if Lisa would have endorsed gay storylines, but I HAVE NOT confused any of the relationships or sexual pursuasions of any of the characters. I am a writer, this is where I get material. So has anyone tried any good yogurt ice cream bars lately? ABlairican Pie 01-01-2002, 06:03 AM BTW, if anyone confuses my facetious tone, I really love Jo, she was one of my favorites on the show. Jo WAS a very precious character. I have just realized that many of you feel the same, and I am sorry if I have offended anyone. I just wanted to have people just laugh and take it in stride about these silly speculations, because that's what they are. Nancy and Jo ultimately were not. BTW, I don't like refering to them in past tense. They are real NOW. Kay Scarpetta 01-01-2002, 04:28 PM Originally posted by Tad Warner OKAY, PEOPLE, I AM SO BLOODY SORRY YOU DIDN'T GET THE STINKIN' JOKE!! YOU GUYS ARE WORSE THAN FUNDAMENTALIST CHRISTIANS--ABOUT TO BURN ME AT THE STAKE OVER YOUR PRECIOUS, PRECIOUS JO!!!! whoa whoa whoa!!! First of all that statement about Fundamentalist Christians... what's that supposed to mean!! Second of all we are not about to burn you for our precious "Jo"... it's just that this subject has been brought up on the boards long before you came and the subject didn't really mix well... Paula 01-02-2002, 03:37 AM Whatever. I personally am not offended by it, I merely mentioned that b/c I didn't get it; i.e. the speculation of Jo didn't make sense to me. Ok, if you're focusing on the writers and their motivation, that's different. Holy crap, sorry I brought it up again. BTW Tad, I wasn't even thinking about or picking on you when I made that statment....all I was doing is following up on what Tori said, that's all. ABlairican Pie 01-02-2002, 06:26 PM Hey folks, sorry if I got into a tish about my little diatribe the other night, it was New Year's Eve, and I was in a goofy mood. I know that the whole "lesbo" angle was done before, and I know I should show a little more respect toward Blair and Jo and all the rest of you who really look up to them--WHICH INCLUDES ME!!--but I hope I didn't seem like I was getting out of line. It was a joke that I may have carried a little too far and got played out. One of the things about my writing humor is that I am rather spontaneous (and isn't that the beauty of it!!)--but we take risks with what we say. I spent a good part of yesterday wondering if I had offended anyone and lost any friendships that could have happened over my comments--AND I DON'T WANT TO DO THAT. Sometimes it is really hard to convey the tone of my humor or what I am writing--even with the smilies:( --so I will try to be careful. You guys have been the funnest thing all year so far, and I have been blessed with a group of people who talk about the greatest thing in my life--THE FACTS OF LIFE!!--and to alienate others so soon who don't understand my kind of humor or writing style would be devastating. And about "fundamentalist Christians", I am not sure how many of you understand the denominational strands in Christianity, but I used that in reference to the types of Christians who focus on intolerance and judgementalism and legalistic attitudes in the name of God and the Bible. I said it out of a facetious rant, I was in a party mood the other night, and I was getting all this stuff off my chest. But I don't want to sound disrespectful of Nancy/Jo in any way, and certainly not toward anyone who considers themselves fans. So what did you guys do on New Year's Eve? I went out with my girl-friends to see "Kate and Leopold" at the movies, when I wasn't using a friend's computer to post these messages. Really good movie, except for one thing: they didn't have Nancy McKeon in the title role. Shelley 01-02-2002, 06:39 PM I almost left this message board because all of this stuff that happened in this poll and the other poll. ABlairican Pie 01-02-2002, 06:53 PM To bjntmrs... DON'T LEAVE!!!! It just got a little too crazy with a joke that got carried too far. I hope there are no negative feelings between me and anyone about this silly thing, I don't want to drive anyone away. The tone I was trying to convey in my "FerGoshSakes..." posting was more of HILARITY, NOT mean-spiritedness. AND I HOPE EVERYONE REALIZES THAT!!!!:D       :happyface So what'd you get for Christmas? Paula 01-02-2002, 07:02 PM Nah, I don't have any negative feelings. Did you read my reply to you about the fact that you saw a few eps of FOL taped live? I can't remember which thread it was under.......... Shelley 01-02-2002, 07:18 PM I'm staying. Ok. I got slippers, some clothes, perfume, comic book, a little lantern/flashlight and a CD. ABlairican Pie 01-02-2002, 07:21 PM To DS/FOL... Yes, I did!!!! Thanks!!!! I think one of the reasons I went down that summer was to see the show taped!!!! And guess what, I came THIS CLOSE to being turned down for a freebie ticket to FOL at a booth at Universal Studios...until the girl gave me one but told me to keep it a secret!! HEAVEN AT LAST!!!! That was at the first time I went. PhoenixMcKeonism 01-02-2002, 07:33 PM Well Tad thanks for saying that stuff :) I really appreciate you kind of saying how the joke didnt really make anyone laugh LOL if you know what i mean... anyways It just kind of hit a sore spot... you see ever since ive been a Jo fan.... and so far its been like 5 months :crazy nobody has really said anything truely negative about her... then i went to this one site called "who would you like to kill.com" or something. I went to that and i couldnt believe how many people there wanted to kill Tootie LOL... but anyways people wanted to kill JO too... and one of the stupid reasons was that those people make fun of Jo cause she was a tomboy so I heard comments on that site such as : "I want to kill JO cause she is a man" and idiotic stuff like that... even though i shouldnt make anything of it.... it just makes me wonder... is that what people think JO is.... a lesbian? I mean if the writers wrote Jo as a lesbian.... i could care less.... im not homophobic... but they didnt.... so you see... i just got a little sensitve on the topic when you posted that... so all is forgoten and nobody should leave cause this is really a wonderful board i come to and everybody here is so nice. Paula 01-03-2002, 01:50 AM Originally posted by Tad Warner To DS/FOL... Polniaczek033 02-27-2002, 06:41 PM I think she was close to everyone, but Mrs. G was always there for her and showed how much she cared about her feelings. Others are right, she did spend 9 years with Blair so she must of been close enough to her. But, I just guessed but other than that, I'm completly stumped. Jo wannabe, Sam~~~ You're born, you live, you die, that's life.-Jo Gemini_89 08-07-2018, 01:47 AM I agree with the people who said Natalie. Natalie seemed more like a REAL BEST FRIEND for Jo. I can actually see them hanging out in real life. Tootie was like a little sister for Jo and Blair was a thorn in Jo's side most of the time, lol. I wouldn't mind reading a Jo/Natalie fanfic. At least it's different then the same ol fanfics! |
