View Full Version : Making of "Soap" Book Coming JR1 03-03-2011, 12:51 AM happened to stumble upon this: http://soapcompanion.wordpress.com/ Sounds very good- can't wait for it. catlover79 03-03-2011, 01:07 AM Thanks for passing along that info!! It looks great!! :D JR1 03-03-2011, 01:16 AM You're welcome- and yes it does. Notably absent from the interviews list are Jennifer Salt, Rebecca Balding and- of course- Billy Crystal. Billy was hawking the "Soap" DVDs when he was on Letterman not too long ago, so he should have no trouble talking about "Soap." :) catlover79 03-03-2011, 01:24 AM Gregory Sierra's not on the interview list, either - dang it!!! :( On the upside, I'm glad they've gotten who they have so far, especially Jimmy Baio. When was the last time he was heard from? JR1 03-03-2011, 01:33 AM Been some time for Mr. Baio- outside of some post-"Soap" TV guests shots, he kinda disappeared from the biuz, I guess. At least he has not hit the reality world like his cousin. hehe Doris Roberts is another- although she had a very minor role, in just four episodes. I e-mailed the author and inqured about some of the notable missing names. catlover79 03-03-2011, 01:48 AM Cool!! Hopefully they'll get more cast and crew members on board. I'm surprised Tony Thomas (as in Harris/Thomas/Witt) isn't on the list, either. 70s show watcher 03-03-2011, 05:22 AM i was never a big fan of the show but with all the contrversey that the show caused during its run it should be interesting to read everybodys take on it JR1 03-03-2011, 10:48 AM Right now, the books' planned for a December release (but we know that's always subject to change). The author has a couple of interviews set up for this month (not discussing who yet, so not to jinx it). With some people, it's a matter of going through channels. catlover79 03-03-2011, 12:58 PM It'll be interesting to see all this unfold!! :D JR1 03-03-2011, 02:31 PM Did you subscribe to the site, so you can keep up on all the scoops? :) gidgetgrape 03-03-2011, 03:01 PM Sounds good! I would love to get the scoop on SOAP. catlover79 03-03-2011, 04:02 PM Did you subscribe to the site, so you can keep up on all the scoops? :) I've followed the proceedings on their FB page. JR1 11-25-2011, 05:56 PM Not sure if the book will make it out before year's end, but the author is working diligently on it. He's spoken to all of the key cast members, behind-the-scenes people, etc. Much looking forward to it. comedyfreak 11-26-2011, 05:05 PM I really liked what I saw so far, especially the bit they borrowed from the real Step Brothers when they went to rescue Billy from the compound. It would be great if they interviewed Thomas/Witt/Harris and Jimmy Baio. asb813 11-26-2011, 06:53 PM Hi all, Many thanks for your interest in the 'Soap' book; I'm the fellow who's putting it together. And just to clarify, comedyfreak, I spoke with Witt/Thomas/Harris and Jimmy Baio for the book. (A complete list of those interviewed can be found in the lower left margin of the blog.) All the best, Aaron Miss Lisa 12-04-2011, 02:31 AM I was so excited when I heard about this. My best and I are are going to go out and get it as soon as it comes out. asb813 12-04-2011, 12:22 PM Thank you for your kind words, Miss Lisa. Hopefully you won't have too long to wait. :-) JR1 12-18-2011, 06:56 PM Hey, Aaron. We're all waiting for the inevitable soapy and juicy contents of your book. :) asb813 12-19-2011, 10:52 AM Cheers for that, JR1. Hard at work lathering up the soapy goodness ;-) Skywalker 04-14-2013, 03:08 PM Does anybody know if this book will be coming soon? I went to the wordpress site and it hasn't been updated in months. Has the book been cancelled? asb813 04-15-2013, 04:27 PM Does anybody know if this book will be coming soon? I went to the wordpress site and it hasn't been updated in months. Has the book been cancelled? It hasn't been canceled -- it's in the page design stage right now. When the economy took a nose dive, my wife and I (I wrote, she designed the book) had to scramble to make ends meet with a lot of freelance work that has made it difficult to get the book out in a timely manner. Rest assured it's still coming -- it's completely written and just needs to have its layout completed and be edited. It looks like it's going to come in at 350-400 pages, so hopefully people will find much in it that they didn't know about 'Soap.' -Aaron Berman robyrob 04-15-2013, 05:09 PM the book sounds pretty interesting - I was crushed when they canceled the show, and all the rumors and talk about stuff going on with the network and all just made it worse, it would be nice to get another perspective of it. asb813 04-15-2013, 05:23 PM There are some pretty surprising things in there about the people involved in 'Soap.' One of my favorites has to do with identifying the roots of all that controversy in the first place - a funny story behind that :-) Kasey 04-16-2013, 09:37 AM There are some pretty surprising things in there about the people involved in 'Soap.' One of my favorites has to do with identifying the roots of all that controversy in the first place - a funny story behind that :-) Thanks for the updates. Good to know it's still coming. I bookmarked the site a few years back and keep checking for updates. JR1 11-01-2013, 04:18 PM "Soap" fans are anxiously awaiting this labor of love. :) asb813 12-03-2013, 02:39 PM Hi all. Just a quick note to say the book about the making of "Soap" went to the publisher on Dec. 1, and should be out somewhere around Dec. 17, give or take a few days. Also tweaked the name slightly to indicate it's not an "official" book, so it's now called: "Soap: The Unauthorized Inside Story of the Sitcom that Broke all the Rules." (I know. I'm still trying to figure out if "unauthorized" cancels out "Inside" too.) Just posted some sample pages and the full cover on the blog: http://soapcompanion.wordpress.com/ Thanks again for everyone's support on this one :-) Aaron JR1 12-18-2013, 02:40 PM it's finally available. :D Excited to read through it when i get it. Dale Key 05-14-2014, 03:00 AM The author talked about his book and the show on The Red Room podcast: http://soapcompanion.wordpress.com/ (link inside) |
