NBC News gets Charlie Sheen interview; will air ahead of ABC’s 20/20 special
By Chris Ariens on February 27, 2011 9:11 PM
NBC has scooped competitor ABC by getting an interview with troubled actor Charlie Sheen and airing it first — or at least at about the same time.
NBC’s press release, sent earlier this evening claims this is Sheen’s “first television interview since his contentious public comments against CBS and “Two and a Half Men” co-creator Chuck Lorre.” NBC’s Jeff Rossen sat down with Sheen for an interview that will air Monday on “Today.”
As we reported yesterday, ABC’s Andrea Canning, has already interviewed Sheen for a “20/20″ special which will air in primetime Tuesday night, with excerpts airing Monday and Tuesday on “Good Morning America.”
It’s a coup for “Today” and could take some of the wind out of the sails of “GMA”‘s post-Oscar telecast, which could be the show’s greatest chance of getting close in the ratings to #1 “Today,” if only for a day.
So far tonight during the Oscars telecast ABC is promoting “Good Morning America,” but with news from a different star: “Britney Spears, with the announcement that has everyone talking,” goes the promo.

Charlie Sheen on Canceled 'Two and a Half Men': I Hit Every Mark
By JACKIE WILLIS
February 27, 2011
Charlie Sheen sat down with the "Today" show to explain his behavior that led to the cancellation of his hit show "Two and a Half Men" through the end of the season.
When asked by Jeff Rossen if he was angry that the show would not be coming back this season, Sheen responded, "Well I'm not angry, I'm passionate. It's like everybody thinks I should be begging for my job back and I'm just gonna forewarn them that it's everybody else that's going to be begging me for their job back."
Rosen followed that up by asking, "Didn't CBS have a right to shut your show down? They're reading about you partying at all hours of the night, taking drugs, abusing alcohol. It's their show."
The Emmy winner reacted, saying, "Epic. Epic behavior. No, because after reading about that, then they observe a guy hitting every mark, nailing every line, every joke, with a full house screaming." Rosen's interview with Sheen will air on NBC's "Today" on Monday, Feb. 28.
CBS came out with a statement last week explaining their decision to cancel the show, saying that it was "based on the totality of Charlie Sheen's statements, conduct and condition."
Mr. Television 02-27-2011, 11:33 PM http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/charlie-sheen-reneges-apoplectic-abc-162189
The actor, who also talked to NBC News, had "assured" ABC that theirs would be "the only sit-down television interview," said a network rep.
The embattled Two and a Half Men star promised ABC News an exclusive, according to network sources. But after sitting down with correspondent Amanda Canning on Saturday, he gave an interview to NBC News' Jeff Rossen on Sunday.
"Charlie Sheen assured us that we would be the only sit-down television interview this weekend, but he changed his mind," an ABC News spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter, adding, "He gave us the first interview, which was extensive and included tremendous access to his home, family and personal life."
ABC News personnel involved in the Sheen interview were said to be "apoplectic," according to one insider. But NBC News executives said they have not heard from their counterparts at ABC News.
NBC will air its interview Monday at 7:30 a.m. on Today. And ABC News will not reschedule the interview and will still run the bulk of it Tuesday at 10 p.m. on a special edition of newsmagazine 20/20. Portions of the interview will also air on Monday's Good Morning America, as previously planned.
And now both network's are claiming a first. While it was too late to strip the word "exclusive" out of the ABC News promos running in tonight's Oscar telecast, the network is nevertheless touting its "access." Meanwhile, NBC News is characterizing its interview as Sheen's "first television interview since his contentious public comments" about Men co-creator Chuck Lorre, despite the fact that it was conducted a day after ABC's interview. (And in a bit of corporate synergy, Ryan Seacrest teased the Today interview on E!'s Oscar red carpet.)
USATVFAN 02-28-2011, 02:18 AM Look like Charlie won't be going on 60 Minutes or The Early Show FOR A LONG TIME!
catlover79 02-28-2011, 02:21 AM ...or Letterman, Ferguson, etc. Good grief, will nothing STOP this man??
Schmoopie 02-28-2011, 05:01 AM ...or Letterman, Ferguson, etc. Good grief, will nothing STOP this man??   He just wants to spread his arrogance around. Geez, the guy has gone mental!
"Well I'm not angry, I'm passionate. It's like everybody thinks I should be begging for my job back and I'm just gonna forewarn them that it's everybody else that's going to be begging me for their job back."
That is absolutely pathetic of him to say that!
Sadly when stars do something bad it gets massive publicity, while someone like Colin Firth who won Best Actor for such an amazing movie and performance will barely get mentioned.
TV Knowledge Fan 02-28-2011, 05:44 AM JEFF ROSSEN: So, Charlie, what made you decide to pick a fight with your producer, Chuck Lorre?
CHARLIE: Well, uh, we'll just have to watch ABC tomorrow night to find out, huh?
I just watched. The man is a disgrace. I think CBS' only option after what he said during this interview is to fire him. Period.
catlover79 02-28-2011, 01:39 PM I didn't watch. I did something more constructive with my time...
catlover79 02-28-2011, 01:41 PM Sadly when stars do something bad it gets massive publicity, while someone like Colin Firth who won Best Actor for such an amazing movie and performance will barely get mentioned.
The bottom line, Andrea - Colin Firth is a class act. Charlie Sheen is...not.
robyrob 02-28-2011, 02:09 PM I think they should just replace him - there are dozens of other actors who could easily fill that role and it might just send him a better message about just how special he's not.
Mr. Television 02-28-2011, 03:44 PM The man is out of control . Is it possible for someone to commit him involuntarily.? I'm afraid something bad is going to happen if something isn't done. ABc and NBC are going to get huge ratings from this but it's all really tabloid news. After his appearance on Today this morning Sheen was interviewed by TMZ. This time he yelled at Leslie Moonves and his father and said he hopes his kids ask him about his wild times so he can set the record straight. His publicist just quit too.

Charlie Sheen: ‘I Don’t Know What I Did to Piss Everyone Off So Much’
Appearing on TMZ Monday morning, he blasts Leslie Moonves for not firing Chuck Lorre; accuses dad Martin Sheen of speaking “jibberish”; hopes his kids ask him about drug use one day.
Following his interviews on ABC’s Good Morning America and NBC’s Today show, Charlie Sheen continued his media blitz Monday, appearing live on TMZ.com. Since the interview, Sheen's longtime publicist Stan Rosenfield announced he is resigning as Sheen's spokesperson.
He reiterated much of what he has been saying in all of his interviews: He is “100 percent” clean, but he won’t rule out partying from his life.
“That’s up to me,” he said when asked if he was done with his wild days. “I am not interested in anybody’s opinion or judgment about it.”
He reassured fans of CBS’ Two and a Half Men that he isn’t to blame for the season being suspended: “I am sorry that the powers that be took away your viewing pleasure ... [and] snatched it from you, like they snatched it form me.”
But he later added, “Whatever part I had in this, I sincerely apologize and whatever part I can fix, I will.”
Sheen – who allowed his new girlfriends, whom he referred to as “goddesses,” to appear on TMZ’s cameras – said he is “fighting” CBS and Warner Bros and that “defeat is not an option ... They took all my gold, used it and said, ‘Thanks, bye-bye.’”
He took aim at CBS Corp. President and CEO Leslie Mooves: “Why didn’t Les Moonves fire Chuck Lorre when he was on a campaign to vilify and destroy me?” Sheen asked.
“I am left like some sucker getting shanked in the yard,” he later said. “I don’t understand what I did wrong besides live a life you were jealous of?”
He said he got criticized in Lorre’s vanity cards and when he fought back in the press, they took the show away from him.
He said Lorre took the show away because of “ego” and “emotions ... He’s got a different brain than I do.”
Asked if he would do the show again if Lorre demanded he stay clean in contract, Sheen said, “Bring it.”
He said Lorre “hasn’t had the decency to call me... explain why you’re making these rash decisions without conferring with your stars. I don’t know what I did to piss everyone off so much,” adding that he delivered “commerce” to both CBS and Warner Bros.
Asked if it’s OK if a star goes home on the weekend and parties as long as he does a good job at work, Sheen said: “If it’s improving his work,” who cares? He then cited Aaron Sorkin, creator of The West Wing, who was arrested in 2002 for drug possession. “They got in my man’s grill,” he said; after that, Sheen said the show drifted into “rose garden and wilted.”
Other points:
Asked why at the time of the Plaza Hotel incident last year, his rep blamed it on mixed medication, Sheen said: “I was asleep when that statement went out. I wasn’t in control of that one. I respect Stan [Rosenfield, his publicist] ... Had I conferred with him, I probably would’ve done something better. I don’t know, he’s doing the best he can.”
He also sent a message to his father, Martin Sheen, who last week compared his son’s addiction problems to cancer. “I respectfully allow him to maintain those beliefs and opinions ... I don’t support them,” he said. “I think it’s the jibberish of fools and he doesn’t live inside my brain ... So, no disrespect, but I am 45-years old... at some point, embrace that.”
As for whether he is worried his kids will one-day read about his wild times, he said, “I hope they do. I hope they say, ‘Dad fill in the blanks, this s--- is gnarly.”
He said he wants to lead by example and teach his kids, but “If my right and wrong is different than everybody else’s, then my kids going to be different.”
He encouraged his children to drink beer if they had any curiosities about it. But if one of his children wanted to try cocaine, he wouldn’t recommend it, however. Said Sheen, “There’s no room for it, there’s no place for it. They wouldn’t survive it, and that’s the bottom line.”
He wouldn’t explain the scandal of two of his vehicles being driven off a cliff in recent months. He said he “didn’t know if it was someone coming after him or what,” trying to paint a bad picture of him in the press.

Charlie Sheen SLAMS Publicist -- 'You're FIRED'
49 minutes ago by TMZ Staff
Charlie Sheen is PISSED at his former publicist Stan Rosenfield -- telling TMZ, "P**sy. He's not allowed to quit, so you’re fired."
Rosenfield announced his resignation after Charlie insinuated Stan lied on the actor's behalf following Charlie's NYC meltdown at The Plaza Hotel back in October.
What on earth is wrong with this person? He is an absolute freak.
robyrob 02-28-2011, 06:13 PM he's like a modern-day Don Quixote - except instead of a lance he uses a 12-foot coke-snorting straw!

Incoming from Charlie Sheen's brain! As of this afternoon, the currently clean actor tells us he's enjoying his stay at the "Sober Valley Lodge" (aka his house), he may release a cologne and he wants to hang with Oscar host James Franco.
Let us explain. E! News talked to Sheen today about the latest developments in his verbal war with Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre and the conversation led to, well, goddesses, Franco, clowns, Everybody Loves Raymond, Sheen's kids and his bank account.
And Charlie sure delivered some awesome sound bites.
First Sheen wants to clear up the reason he's planning on suing CBS and Warner Bros. Television after they shut down the show for the season. He says he's not going after them because they caused him "mental anguish," he's suing because he wants his money for the eight episodes that were ordered but ultimately scrapped. (For those keeping score at home, four were cut when Sheen initially left in January to begin his at-home rehab; the final four were nixed following his multiple radio tirades last week.)
"These fools are so predictable. I'm suing for front end and back end and want them to get out of my personal life," he tells us. "For eight years they were control freaks. Look at what a guy, me, delivers. I don't roll with amateurs. If you wanna stay up till Christmas partying, you've got to work. They're complete *******."
Then it's on to now ex-boss Lorre. Sheen calls Lorre a "******** zombie" who should have been axed by network head Les Moonves long ago.
"The fact Les didn't fire him is unbelievable," Sheen tells us. "He needs to fire this clown. They're not going with my plan, my plan is the best in the world. They all get slaughtered if they don't follow my plan."
Sheen says that he recognizes that his show became popular because it originally ran following Everybody Loves Raymond.
"Now the two shows they are in love with, Mike & Molly and Geek Squad [The Big Bang Theory] are gonna explode like they were hit like a Japanese torpedo," he says. "My show launched Geek Squad and Mike just like Raymond was the reason we are a hit—we have an audience because of that. Dancing With the Stars will unravel their lineup now."
Sheen says all he wanted was a little "respect" for making Two and a Half Men a hit, and that the producers don't understand him and his approach.
"Thay can't hang with me, their bones would melt like wax," Sheen says.
He says he thinks he's been left in the cold by CBS and Warners after Lorre tried to force Sheen into a mea culpa that he wouldn't deliver.
"I have been completely abandoned by CBS, by Warner, my path is clear," Sheen said.
Reps for CBS, Warner Bros. and Lorre declined to comment on Sheen's remarks—chances are, they don't know where to begin. Right, Charlie?
"Chuck was on his way out and this is the gratitude I get, him up in my grill," Sheen says. "He tried to impose his silly ideas on me, he told me I need to make a big announcement to everyone and apologize for the dark cloud I brought to the show. I said, 'Get out of my face with your corduroys.' "
Now the sitcom star hopes costar Jon Cryer will follow his lead and file his own lawsuit against the network for halting production on Two and a Half Men. But, Sheen says, he hasn't spoken to Cryer or anyone else from the show since it was pulled.
He says he has been fielding offers for movies and books and may "do a cologne." But for now, he's spending his days at home with his "goddesses" and his twin sons with Brooke Mueller, Max and Bob. The boys turn 2 this month.
"The babies live with me, they're in the kitchen right now," he says. "They run around and they're as fun as you can imagine. They say 'Dada' and run into walls. And Dada is cool, but when they run into walls I say, 'Don't do that, that's ********.' "
He's nicknamed his L.A. manse the "Sober Valley Lodge" and says it's filled with "babes and victories and children."
"Here nobody panics and nobody dies," he says.
As for the partying, the porn and the drugs, Sheen says it's "there if I decide to go back to it."
"What's not to like?" he says about living so hard. "I see things in a different way. Sometimes life is boring and I've got to make it exciting."
As for the various porn stars who have spilled details of his private life, he says they're no longer welcome at his house.
"The door is closed to those trolls," he tells us. "I'm going to hang onto and worship and make sure my goddeses are loved. Now it's me and Natty [Natalie Kenly] and Rachel [Oberlin, aka X-rated star Bree Olsen]. They're good and decent."
He won't be returning for a new season of Two and a Half Men in the fall, he says, unless some "radical changes" occur.
"I'll do a cologne and a book, I'll do a movie, I got people lunging at me," he says. "I've never been in trouble [financially]. Something will fall out of the sky, I don't believe in panic."
And one person who hasn't abandoned him? Ex-wife Denise Richards.
"We speak every day," he says. "Have you seen her? She's hot as s--t."
As for the other ex-wife, Mueller, they haven't communicated since falling out during last week's Bahamian vacation. Mueller had been temporarily residing at Sober Valley Lodge while Sheen bought a new home in the neighborhood, but after last week, she is no longer staying there.
"That woman only lies when she speaks," he says. "All I'm coming at is the truth."
Before saying goodbye, we let Sheen know he's been so entertaining these last few days he should have hosted the Oscars. But he says that's not going to happen.
Says Sheen: "I'd rather just hang with Franco."
Now there's a duo that would make your head explode.
catlover79 02-28-2011, 07:34 PM I hear the sound of a career sinking down, down, down the drain. Who is going to want to work with him ever again?
