Small world? John Amos wrote for the Leslie Uggams Show and wrote a weekly feature about a proud black family living in the NYC ghetto. Amos said it was Good Times before 'Good Times' ever aired. Unfortunately, Amos said people weren't ready to see a show about a poor black family.

That was because at that time black people wanted to see positive images of blacks since they were past the Amos and Andy stage

Yes indeed, it was also interesting to read that he tried out with the Denver Broncos and was a manager at a McDonald's right before this gig with Leslie Uggams.
