Zachary Adam Chesser, the 21-year-old American-born Islamic man who posted online threats encouraging jihadists attacks against South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker for an episode that depicted the Prophet Mohammed in a bear suit was sentenced to 25 years in prison today. His actions caused people throughout the country to fear speaking out even in jest to avoid being labeled as enemies who deserve to be killed, U.S. Attorney Neil MacBride is quoted in a CNN report. The fact that a young man from Northern Virginia could support such violence and terror is a sobering reminder of the serious threat that homegrown jihadist pose to this country. Chesser also admitted that he had attempted to join an Islamic group in Somalia, Al-Shabaab, that the U.S. government considers a terrorist organization.
