I wonder how super Republican Alex would handle/cope with the transition from the Reagan-Bush Sr. (which could be considered to being Ronald Reagan's "third term") era to the Bill Clinton era? Family Ties pretty much built its premise on the whole Baby Boomers (Bill Clinton was the first "Baby Boomer" president)/ex-hippies raising kids in 1980s Reagan America.

I think Alex would have remained a Republican loyalist, not necessarily an activist. Having earned his MBA from Wharton Business School is now successful in upper management of a company. Mallory got her real estate license and also does fashion consulting on the side, happily married (not to Nick--but to a more conventional guy). Steve and Elyse are retired and Democratic activists; they also like to ride bikes, visit the grandkids and are on the environmental board for Lake Erie. Elyse serves on the architectural review committee for her city, approving any new construction projects. Jennifer is a PhD in molecular biology at the University of Ohio.
