I just finished Chapter 61 of "Brady Brady Brady" by Sherwood and Lloyd Schwartz entitled "Bradysomething". (Lloyd wrote that chapter in particular, not Sherwood, by the way. That's why he's in the subject line.) That chapter deals with the CBS dramedy "The Bradys" which aired in February and March 1990. I saw a quote in "Brady Brady Brady" that was from Ann B. Davis (Alice), and she told Robert Reed "Maybe it's time you got a new career." (page 231) This is when Robert Reed was complaining about the reality--or lack thereof!--involving Alice lighting too many candles on a cake.
Then I remembered that exact same quote about a new career came from Florence Henderson (Carol) in Barry Williams' "Growing Up Brady" on page 162 in Chapter 28, "The Bradys". (However, Ann B. Davis did say "How deep is your sh**?" when Robert complained sometime after the cake candles incident after parodying his lines and saying "Gee, Alice, if this doesn't work we'll be in deep sh**" in a scene with Bobby in a wheelchair on page 163.)
So who said the "new career" quote, Florence or Ann? Barry and Lloyd? I'm guessing Ann since so many people on this board say "Growing Up Brady" is full of errors.

I expect Barry told the story in his book the way he really remembered it. And I'm sure Lloyd told the story in his book exactly the way he remembered it. This leaves us with the question which one of them is remembering this incident correctly? You note correctly that "Growing Up Brady" is known to contain some errors. But it has also been noted on another thread on this board that "Brady Brady Brady" also contains an error or two. So obviously neither of them has a perfect memory. So I don't know which actress said that to Robert Reed but I'm glad somebody did!

well, if Florence did say it, then I'm sure she was only kidding and probably laughing as she did, since she was good friends with Robert Reed.

That's a good point. Like the six blind men describing an elephant, I'm sure each got some details right and others wrong. It's not just a matter of memory, it's also initial perception. Sometimes we mishear what someone says or when voices are similar and we can't see the person talking we might be mistaken about who said something. What we remember is what we thought happened at the time, and then our memory deteriorates from there.

The book Bradymania by Elizabeth Moran also contains errors, even in the episode guide. The ones describing what happens in the episodes are particularly glaring since anyone can check this by getting out the DVDs.
