Mine was the film Suicide Kings (1997) during the summer of 2001.
I watched it over at a friend's house, he "stole" one of his father's DVDs to watch one night.
The first DVD that I ever owned was the Special Edition of Goldeneye (1995). I got it as a b-day gift.
I'm pretty sure it was South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut in late 1999. I bought a DVD player and a new TV with an entire paycheck(!), but the week before, I bought South Park: BLU, American Pie and Mallrats from Amazon in anticipation of owning a DVD player. Of those three titles, South Park is the only one I still own. Hard to believe that was over eleven years ago.

The first one I bought was The Wizard of Oz. I'd imagine that was the first one I watched, too. Back then I didn't have a DVD player, so I had to watch it on the computer.
The Simpsons, season one was the first TV-DVD I bought and it had the same computer viewing treatment.

My first TV-on-DVD was the "Clerks" cartoon.
I got it to complete my Jay and Silent Bob collection.
