Where you live, how many of yall have independent and locally owned businesses (record stores, bookstores, coffee shops, clothing stores, eating establishments etc.)?

How frequently do you shop at these places?

I dont really make resolutings but one thing I want to start doing is shopping from local and independent businesses more.

Virtually all of the mom-and-pop video and music stores in my area are gone now. Around 10-20 years ago they were all over, but they are a dying breed in recent years.

The only kind of music stores in my area are those that cater towards a particular ethnic group; like stores that only sell Italian, Latino, or Chinese music.

We just had one independent bookstore open up in my area last year. They have a fancy cafe inside too. I try to go there whenever I'm near it.

There are a lot of family-owned restaurants in my area that are luncheonette types of places.
Family-owned pizzerias are common around here too.

There's this place where I live called "Mr. Funs" and they have nostalgic and novelty things in there.

Then there's a place next door called "Flower Child" and they have stuff from many decades there.

I would like to decorate my house in a 1960's style, I'll talk about that later....

When it comes to independent music/record stores, there are a couple left in my area and they do well partially because of ethnic music. Independent video rental stores are pretty rare. There is one about 10 miles away from me, that still manages to do ok, but the owners said in a news article that they will likely be closing by next year.

There are a few indie bookstores that are still around. I go to one of those often because I'm friends with a relative of the owners. Family owned restaurants are still popular.
