View Full Version : Who is your favorite news personality?
Terry Ross 12-30-2001, 07:59 AM I have a COMPLETELY different question for everyone on this board and judging by the different ages and personalities, I'd expect many different answers.
Here's the question: Who is your favorite news personality? You know, Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric, Barbara Walters, Dan Rather, etc. Of all the news people on TV, who do you like the best or identify with the most? And why? Can you also say if you're a male or female and how old you are?
I have a personal reason for asking, which I will reveal after you answer. Thanks a bunch.
PPatters 12-30-2001, 11:59 AM Tom Brokaw is my favorite. I just think that he is a very classy, down-to-Earth guy. I mean, he loves his job, and he loves the people around him. (You could especially see this in his interview about his assistant who had Anthrax.) He's a great person and news personality. BTW - Male, 15
dawsongirl 12-30-2001, 09:32 PM Honestly, I can't really give you a straight answer because I don't watch TV News very much. I used to like Dan Rather, but he's gotten awful goofy lately. Peter Jennings isn't bad, Tom Brokaw isn't bad. I CAN tell you I don't like Bryant Gumbel.
Female, 22.
dawsongirl 12-30-2001, 09:33 PM Oh, I was going to say that if you wanted a lot of responses, I could post this on the chit chat board for you.
Kellie87kp 12-31-2001, 01:58 AM well, I guess I like Peter Jennings the most but I can tell you that I HATE Diane Sawyer, Cokie Roberts, and Sam Donleson (or Donaldson, I dunno his last names exactly).
female-14
so what's the personal reason for asking?
Sean Snow 12-31-2001, 12:34 PM Diane Sawyer is my favorite. She just seems so nice on camera, and says the news very simpily w/o being TO simple at the same time. I know I'm not making any sense lol
-Male, 12
QueenOfTheGypsies 12-31-2001, 01:07 PM I like Brian Williams from NBC News. He's very likeable and down-to-earth. He's not stiff and boring like most newscasters seem to be.
Female, 26
Christina E 12-31-2001, 02:16 PM I like Barbara Walters. She seems down-to-earth, and she often asks the questions I was thinking of. Also, I grew up watching her, so she seems almost like a friend. :)
Female, 22
Terry Ross 12-31-2001, 03:53 PM To Kelley87kp: can you explain why you don't like the people that you mentioned?
Where's TJ? I'd love to hear from him. I can't tell you why until all of the replies have come in because it may change the way you answer.
Thanks to everyone who has answered.
Joicetti 01-01-2002, 10:15 AM Well, let's see. Of the main anchors, I can tell you right off that Dan Rather is my least favorite, for his overall stiffness on air. Peter Jennings is okay, but I think he can really put his foot in his mouth sometimes with his own political overtones! And Tom Brokaw would have to be my favorite, for the many qualities he brings to his broadcasting (heart, feeling, and humor too sometimes I think).
Of the other news people (either morning news shows or evening programs) I like Matt Lauer, Katie Kouric, Diane Sawyer, and Barbara Walters. I don't think she's a major figure but I can't stand that Anne woman that does a lot of the news on the today show and fills in for Katie sometimes. (Not natural in the way she speaks and comes across on camera, in my opinion.) Don't get me started with Bryant Gumble (personal issues  ) And the one I really can't stand is Josh Mankiewicz on MSNBC, for having the most annoying speaking voice known to humankind. Admittedly I don't even know take this last person's newscasting ability into perspective, since I honestly can't listen to him long enough to get a sense of what he's like on camera...
Since September 11th I think I've had more respect for news professionals overall, but *some* pettiness still exists as you can see with my last few answers. :)
Oh, btw, I'm female and I'm 22 years old.
Janice 01-01-2002, 12:16 PM My favorite is Tom Brokaw. He won me over about 8 years ago, when, after airing a report on animal abuse on the nightly news, his eyes were watery when the camera cut back to him and as he signed off. Since then, I've noticed a sincere sense of emotion in him. It's genuine. My second favorite anchorman is Brian Williams, whom I believe will succeed Tom Brokaw in time.
I'm female, and my age is, well let's just say I was watching The Brady Bunch as a child during its original run.
PPatters 01-01-2002, 02:56 PM BTW - Brian Williams is also my second favorite :-)
Tom Brokaw - he has the best voice and on-air presence in my opinion.

well...uh... let's see, I don't like Diane Sawyer because she just doesn't seen like a news peerson and she never really seems like she cares about what anyone else is saying as long as she says what she wants to before the time is up.
and I don't like cokie roberts or sam because.....I honestly dont know, I jsut DONT LIKE THEM! lol, it's weird how much I hate them but I jsut do  sorry if I coulnd't help ya out much Terry Ross.
gothic of darkness 01-04-2002, 01:58 AM I don't watch news much, but I like Barbara Walters because
of the way she talks.Sometimes I try to imitate her.hehe. ;)
