Feb 16, 2011
by Joyce Eng

Laura Prepon has landed the lead in Chelsea Handler's NBC comedy pilot "Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea", TV Line reports.

Based on Handler's best-selling book of the same name and inspired by her life, the project follows a group of twentysomethings living and working together. Prepon will play Chelsea Hanson, a single and opinionated cocktail waitress who is open about loving to drink and have sex.

Handler will serve as an executive producer along with Tom Werner, Mike Clements ("Life and Times of Tim") and Tom Brunelle. Julie Larson (Rent) and Dottie Dartland Zicklin ("Dharma & Greg") wrote the pilot.

Don't ever expect this to become a series.

I always liked Laura Prepon better when she was a redhead (on the early years of "That '70s Show"), even though she's still a very pretty lady today.

Chelsea Handler will play her own older sister in the pilot based on her novel Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea.

According to E! Online, Handler will star opposite Laura Prepon in the NBC pilot. Prepon will play a fictionalized version of the E! host.

"I haven't read her books," Prepon told E!

"But I've seen her a lot and it's going to be awesome. I am just starting to immerse myself in the Chelsea Handler of it all. She's an amazing woman."

"I'm from Jersey," Prepon said. "Chelsea and I are similar, so it's perfect we play sisters. It's funny, because her vodka is my favorite vodka too. We both drink the same thing!"
