As great as the show was, is there anything you wish they would've done differently or done that you never saw? For instance, perhaps Mary getting a steady boyfriend or engaged or pregnant? Let me know...

Since this was in the seventies, Mary first would have to be married first before she became pregnant.
I think the later female characters Georgette and Sue Ann weren't as good as Rhoda and Phyllis. I do understand that it was a catch-22 since Rhoda & Phyllis had their own shows but I missed them and felt the void wasn't quite filled.

I understand things were more stringent in the 70's, but Norman Lear was pushing those boundaries for CBS anyway.

I think there were a couple of "firsts" on and connected to the Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Lou Grant was the first sitcom character to get divorced and on Rhoda, I believe Joe was the first sitcom character already divorced.
Actually, Mary being pregnant does sound intriguing. If you follow the show's ratings, they really fell in the final season. If Mary was pregnant in the final season, I doubt they would have fallen out of the top 30. But in 1977, even the silly sitcom Three's Company was causing some controversy. (I know TC was an ABC show)

Interesting, I'll pose that question for another thread about Lou.
As forthe show's ratings, I never knew that they actually fell....I wonder why???
