View Full Version : Do you agree that Cable TV has gotten better in the past couple of years?
TVFactFan 02-13-2011, 07:26 PM We no longer have to depend on N@N and TV LAND for classic TV since new channels have emerged like the HUB, Antenna TV, and Centric. The combination of these three hannels have allowed us to see so many shows from the 50's to the 90's and now can it back and enjoy some of the greatest sitcoms of tv history.
So thankful to have these three channels which makes us forget about TV Land and N@N.
I think there's no need for Nick at Nite anymore--in its current "rerun" model, anyway. I'm not sure what their ratings look like with their current schedule (they may very well be stellar), but I don't think they're really showing anything anymore that isn't available on other networks or in syndication.
15-20 years ago, they were a lot more special; more of a "destination." They showed series other networks weren't showing, seemingly uncut (I specifically remember a few advertisements boasting uncut shows).
Maybe they can re-invent themselves once again, totally dropping the "rerun" model. It'd be interesting to see them do for themselves what, say, USA Network has done for themselves.

Well if you don't have AntTV, HUB, or Centric then I would expect the answer to be NO
Antenna TV isn't a cable network. It's a broadcast channel on subchannels of locals...some cable providers may carry it.
I disagree....I think it's gotten worse.

I get all three channels. The Hub is great but I'm not impressed with the other two.I agree and The Hub is not worth the increases I've seen in my cable bill.

Yeah,Antenna-TV is a free channel.--And I agree cable/sat has gotten worse for all the obvious reasons.
old grouch 02-14-2011, 02:40 PM I haven't had cable for several years. On the few occasions I have watched cable recently at other people's houses, I found it really annoying. They play the same commercials over and over. And, like the old song says, 500 channels and there's nothing on. I take the money I would have spent on cable and I buy DVDs instead.
SpenceOlchin 02-14-2011, 03:37 PM Nah, I think it's gotten worse. Especially with all the commercials, popups and other ridiculous tactics. I remember a couple years ago, TBS actually paused a program to promote another program. Not to mention, the lack of variety on a lot of stations. If it wasn't for sports and a few channels that I like, I'd probably just pull the plug.

I haven't had Cable since 1/2/2007. Whenever I'm somewhere there's Cable there will be someone doing what I call a "Death Spiral", surfing the Channels, and when they give up looking for a Program they INVARIABLY end up on CNN, FOX or MSNBC, watching what I call "The Woes of the World". :(
I was spending $65.00 a Month when I "Cut the Cord". Since then I have used that money to purchase DVDs as well. (Whenever the Cable Company announces a rate increase I'll increase my Budget as well, currantly I spend $103.00 a Month! :brent How have I done during the last four years? I have accumulated over 25,000 Hours of TV Shows, Movies and Other Programming. For all intents and purposes, I'VE FORMED MY OWN NETWORK!
yankeesrj12 02-14-2011, 04:09 PM I think cable has gotten a lot better. If not for USA, TNT, and E!, I would lose half of what I watch!
I do agree that the original programming on channels like TNT, FX, USA, and even TV Land has greatly improved, but as far as the rest of it, no.
Tubehead 02-14-2011, 11:24 PM hey clj2 i don't like the newer show on tv land. iwatch reter at 35 i don't like hot in clevel dont get me started on the Realtiy shows don't get me started on reality shows i only one i liked was mythes adn ledgen and top ten. idid like mrt realtiy show for while. i just don't care for tv land they show everyone loveramyond like every mintue it comes on five channels. i hate the nanny and rose ann. ican't stand allinthe family or married withchilden . my favorite show right nowis sanfrod and son i like homeinmprovment.i think nick aat nite should be a 24 staiton show tv show from1970s to 1990s. that way they can keep up with show then have nick at nite late nite and have tv land showing classic black and white shows and have all thre of i love lucy shows on tv land. . that what i would doo i also miss thenick at nite block party summer used to get usedto waching on i dream of jennia and l love lucy marhtorns i miss the old nick at nite.

By the way now is very popular online TV and most of all I watch TV online, because I am all the time near PC. I use this one Online TVx, have a look http://www.onlinetvx.com !!!!
BigManMike 02-15-2011, 12:15 PM I've never had cable but I want it one day. I am really enjoying Antenna TV. It is much better than TV Land. My only disappointment with it is that the programs are not closed-captioned. TV Land has hardly anything good. The only good shows on there are Andy Griffith, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, All in the Family, Sanford and Son, Good Times, The Jeffersons, and Three's Company. And they don't air many episodes of those each day. Everybody Loves Raymond and the Nanny are ok, but they're on way too much, and the original reality programming is so stupid. TV One I would like. I don't know about the Hub, because it only comes in the more expensive packages and Family Ties, Happy Days, and Laverne and Shirley are the only shows on there I want to see.
browneyes106 02-15-2011, 04:10 PM In terms of original programming, cable has improved a lot in the past few years. Most dramas on cable pretty much trump broadcast dramas.
yeah cable has improved a lot in the last couple of years
