Never understood why they did that. I don't see what purpose it served, ultimately.

Maggie Roswell, Maude Flanders' voice actress, was flying every week from New York to Los Angeles for the tapings. As you can imagine flying cross country every week can get expensive. She asked for a raise to make it easier for her to afford the airfare. They said no. So she said 'fine, then let me record my part in my own recording studio in the basement of my home' and they again said no. So she quit. And she was gone completely for a couple of years before the network finally agreed to give her a raise to cover the cost of the travel.

That was a funny episode. Also hasn't Maggie made some appearances since Maude died?
