I'd say Family Guy was definitely a cult show before it was rescued from cancellation, and new episodes began airing in 2005. There seemed to be a lot of "Hey, you've got to check out reruns of this old show on Adult Swim," or "Dude, you have to borrow these DVDs I got."

Now it's a genuine hit. Everyone knows what Family Guy is.

Fox won the evening with its animation block. Family Guy was the top show of the night, scoring a 3.3 (+0.1) with 6.56 million viewers. The Simpsons (2.8, +0.2) and Bob's Burgers (2.2, +0.1) won the 8pm hour. The entire line-up increased from week-to-week.

Wow..."Family Guy" is beating-out "The Simpsons".

This show shouldn't be cancelled....

It's definitely a hit -- the fact that it was brought back to prime time TV after a three-year hiatus and has been grabbing strong ratings ever since is testament to that.

I just don't understand why it's such a big hit, that's all.

I think it's a cult show that became a hit. I'm enjoying season 1 from Netflix. I prefer the evil Stewie instead of the nice one, he's funnier when he's evil.
