Was she a potential replacement for Andy Kaufman?
Was she a way to keep Andy Kaufman happy?
Did the producers just want to try and capitalize on Latka Gravas' popularity on the show?

Maybe her character was brought in to give Latka more storylines.

That is very true, are you a fan of the Simka character? Is anybody a fan of hers?

I wasn't really a fan of the character but it gave Latka more exposure in Taxi, since he was never a central character unless his alter ego Vic made an appearence.

Exactly! Giving Latka a love interest was a way to flesh out the character more and give the writers more to write about the character.

I did not like the Simka character at all. I just never thought she was funny. She used to agrivate me to the point where I would turn the channel. Besides the John (Randal Carver) character in season 1, she was a unasential.
I thought Ladka was funny at times, but he was at his best when he played Vic Farrari and the other split peronalties.
Alex was sooooo funny. So was Tony and Bobby at times. When Elaine was fighting with Louie she was great. Louie was great too. And lets not forget the space cadet. Jim was just way out there hilerious. But I have nothing for Simka.
