View Full Version : The David Nelson A-Z game
OH Nuts! 01-31-2011, 06:02 PM I just got to thinking that maybe a special A-Z thread, tied especially to Dave might be another nice way to remember him. Although of course the thread could include things Nelson-related the more related to Dave the better! Either in real life or on the show. I'll start:
A =Attorney (in the later eps Dave played an attorney)
Goldilocks 02-02-2011, 09:52 PM B = Bradley Cooper. David had that "Bradley Cooper" thing going on! Maybe he can play David in a movie!

David learned how to be a trapeze artist while starring in the movie The Big Circus, and then he and Rick developed a trapeze act that Ozzie featured in an episode called "The Circus."
Dave actually spent several summers in the 1960s touring with a trapeze act that performed in circuses all over North America.

LOL!
L=Lawyer (Dave's occupation on the show during the 1960s--and I swear I read an obituary or two that claimed that he became a lawyer in real life--one more example of how some people couldn't discern the difference between what was real and what was make-believe when it came to the four Nelsons!)
gidgetgrape 02-07-2011, 03:04 PM M= Matthew Nelson, David's nephew

OH Nuts! 02-09-2011, 07:10 PM Tommy Gordon = David Nelson's character in "The Big Circus"
matt77b 02-09-2011, 11:03 PM This might be a stretch, but
U= Underrated or underappreciated
Rick(y) got more of the laughs in the early episodes, and of course later he stole the spotlight with his music--and justifiably so--the show wouldn't have run (as Ozzie admitted) for as many years as it did were it not for all the people (including one Elvis Presley) who tuned in to watch Rick and his band perform--BUT...
Dave was nevertheless critical to the show's success...the straight man, very charming and likeable in his own understated way...and whereas Ricky was the flamboyant "character" in the show's early years, he seemed at times to almost be bored to be on the show in the final year or two, whereas Dave was remarkably consistent over the course of his fourteen years (or seventeen counting radio) on the show. Plus he even directed some later episodes (the only person other than Ozzie to ever direct an episode). So I'll stand by my U= underrated or underappreciated!
