Morgan Brittany, who was one of the most visible celebrities supporting the Republican ticket of McCain-Palin over the Democratic ticket of Obama-Biden during the last presidential election, has a daughter in her 20s who is a struggling actress. Her advice to her is: "Don't tell them you're my daughter."

Brittany told of building a friendship with actor Ed Asner, a sometimes activist for progressive causes, when the two starred in a stage-play together during the infamous Florida recount that put Republican George W. Bush in the White House over Democrat Al Gore. And she told how she lost Asner's friendship due to politics.

"Every night he just loved me and came in and gave me a big hug," she said. "Then one night he was going crazy about Gore and Bush and stealing the election. I'm backstage and I said, 'Ed, chill, not everybody thinks the way you do'."

"Well, where do I begin?" I swear. It was like a light switch," she said. "He turned to me and said, 'you're not a Republican?' I said, 'yep.' And he said, 'I can't even look at you. I can't even talk to you'."

"From that moment on, he never spoke to me again, except on stage," she said. "This is what we're dealing with. The intolerance of the left."

Again, I don't want to politicize this at all, but why turn on a friend just because of political views?!?

It shouldn't make a difference. There's more to life than politics. Ed is a very vocal liberal. He always has been. I heard he and Ted Knight used to get into it over politics too. I belong to a message board for the tv show Dallas and there are a bunch of liberals over there. I don't go over there to talk politics. Whenever Morgan's name is brought up other than her character, there's alot of hate being shouted about. She's called some of the nastiest names imaginable and just because she's a Republican. I took a break from posting over there for a few months just to get away from it. I enjoy warching Ed's shows but sometimes he does make it difficult.

EXACTLY! A friend should be a friend no matter what! If this is true than Ed should be ashamed.

It sounds like Morgan Brittany has lot of spunk and we all know how Ed feels about spunk! ;)

If all this is true, I applaud Morgan for not backing down. Gavin MacLeod has been quoted as saying that Ed and Ted would have some very vocal disagreements due to politics (Ted was a strong conservative). Gavin, I believe, steered clear of the political debates.

I've said before, I think it's highly ironic (not to mention hypocritical) that the left often calls the right intolerant and such - but then they turn around and ignore or ridicule people on the right (i.e. Alicia Silverstone and Elisabeth Hasselback).

But if I was Morgan, I wouldn't worry about it. For years I've followed her career and she just seems like one big sweetheart.

OH Nuts!

Well it does sound kind of narrow minded. But that election was a polarizing one.

I always look at the totality of the person - there have been many people I've adored whose politics were different from mine.
