Barbara was a widow. Dodie remembered the aroma from her late father having smoked a pipe when she was younger yet; he had definitely passed away. Later we meet Barbara's father.

Steve married Barbara in the fall of 1969, which was Season 10 -- Beverly Garland and Dawn Lyn were on for 3 full seasons (10, 11, 12). It was a marriage of a widower and a widow, just like The Brady Bunch that same fall.

During that period, the triplets remained prominent in the series. Therefore "My Three Sons" could also apply to the sons of Katie and Rob. I don't see the need for a title change of a popular, decade-old series.

There was no need for a title change.

By season 12, the title 'My Three Sons' was probably inappropriate, because Robbie was gone and Chip and Ernie weren't seen very much. But then again, Season 12 probably should have never happened.

I just wanted to add that Barbara's late husband was Larry Harper. So Barbara's names went as follows:

Maiden: Barbara Vincent
1st married name: Barbara Harper
2nd married name: Barbara Douglas (sometimes Barbara Harper-Douglas in current reviews)

The thing I liked best about the later seasons was seeing Beverly Garland and Tina Cole, especially when their outfits revealed a lot of thigh (lol). And in Tina's case moreso, they did!

P.S. In Barbara's debut, she mentions to Steve that her husband had "died," verifying that she was a widow (first episode of Season 10).

I might add that seeing Ronne Troup as "Polly Williams Douglas" in seasons 11 & 12 is a real plus for me -- such a cutie.
