I was just wondering what old black and white tv shows had been colorized at one point or another. I know the first seasons of I Dream of Jeannie and Betwitched had been, but where there others? I have a vague memory of seeing a colorized version of leave it to beaver, but I remember it as being pretty bad. Shorta had a redish tint to it. Was that real or just something from a crazy memory playing tricks? It just seemed kind of funny to me that the only two shows that that have been colorized are the same two that have been compared and contrasted the most (Do you like Jeannie or Sam?). Also please note I'm only wondering about this. I'm not trying to start a war between thoes who hate colorized verions of classics and thoes who will only watch them if they are colorized. If a show is iin color or not does not really matter to me all that much.

The Twilight Zone episode "Miniature" starring Robert Duvall had it's dollhouse scenes colorized when it reaired for the first time in 20 years as part of 1984 syndicated 25th Anniversary special hosted by Patrick O'Neal. "Miniature" and a few other episodes were not included in the original syndication package due to legal issues but those legalities were cleared in time for this presentation.

Legend Films colorized one episode of Munsters. "Family Portrait", episode 13 of season one. It's a bonus on the complete DVD set.

the famed tubby director's funny intros on Alfred Hitchcock Presents were colorized for syndication.
I don't think they're available on DVD.
I'd love to see a DVD just of Alfred Hitchcock intros - in color.

About Alfred Hitchcock--when NBC revived the show in the '80s, they used the old intros from the '50s series with colorization.

The Family Portrait of Munsters was colorized and released on DVD in 2008.

The premise is funny. The Munsters are winners of the Average American Family contest. The most average family in America!

As I remember being a single digit age child in the 1960's, color came into many black and white tv shows during that time. Looking back, the tv announcer would come on and say. Gunsmoke in Color. It was a thrill to see Jeannie's pink harem costume in color or Miss Kitty's red hair. Oh the thrill of earlier tv days.

Superman was BW for the first two seasons from 1952 to 1954.

Then for the next 4 years, from 1954 and 1958, you could see his red shorts and blue tights.

I'd love to see Superman's first two years in color.

Thankfully, that horrendous trend has abated and we don't see it being done anymore.

and that was rare because color TVs didn't start coming out until 1956

If I'm not mistaken, shows like Adventures of Superman and The Lone Ranger switched to color because there were to be theatrical releases comprised of TV eps, shown on the big screen. In other words, the filming kept in mind being able to run the footage as color movies for theatre audiences.

Sgt. Preston of the Yukon is another example of early TV color, and of course Bonanza was always in color ('59 debut).

Shirley Temple colorized her 1960's specials where actors like Jonathan Winters act out fairy tales.

The first TV show colorized was Steve McQueen's WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE.

The Gene Autry Show ran 5 seasons from 1950 to 1956.

In 1950, CBS experimented with their own color TV system. It was complicated.
It had a revolving color wheel with the signals timed and it wasn't compatible with regular BW TV.

In season one, Gene Autry filmed two episodes in color.
#1.25 "The Raiders" and #1.26 "Double Barrel Vengeance"
They aired in April, 1951.

Then the Gene Autry show went BW for Seasons 2 to 4.

Then the final season 5, back to color for the entire 13 episodes.

In total 15 of 91 were in color.

On May, Shout and Timeless Media released DVD of the final season in color.

It's wonderful.
