"Family Matters"! That was such a great show, one of the best sitcoms of the 90s, except for two things:
1: They suffered from the "child suddenly goes missing" syndrom.
2: (which is more on topic for this thread) Steve couldn't get that shallow no-good conceited bitch Laura out of his head, even after he had found the perfect girl in Myra.

I can't believe I forgot "Alf", but then, I haven't seen the last episode yet, but only heard about it. :(

Archie Bunker's Place/All in the family - You would think after 13 years, CBS would have given the show a better send off.

The Jeffersons - The last episode was a talent show which is somewhat acceptable for a finale but they did not know it was going to be the last season of the show. CBS should have given sooner notice so they could have prepared something even better.

Moesha - That final episode was a cliffhanger written under the assumption that the show was gonna comeback for another season.

Grace Under Fire - The show was never given a proper finale because it was pulled due to Brett Butler's behaviour and trouble with the law.

Melrose Place 2.0 - Heather Locklear's character "Amanda" is arrested and we don't get a chance to see how she spectacularly gets her way out of the situation.

The Golden Palace - This extension of the Golden Girl characters. I heard it was on the table for CBS to renew but then was canceled.

The ending for Three's Company felt a bit anti-climatic and rushed. I didn't like how it was essentially, a backdoor pilot for the failed Three's a Crowd spin-off. Also, I would've preferred Jack to end up with Janet instead of having them paired with boring characters that we know little about.

I think the final episode of QL was the worst episode they ever had. It was too confusing.

MASH.---The 2 1/2 hour finale was not as good as it should have been.Don't get me wrong it was ok,but it did not match the quality of the show itself. There were even actresses(in small parts) playing nurses in the finale that never appeared in the show before. On the plus side at least the show did have a final episode.

I kind of feel exactly the same way about the 2 hour finale of The Fugitive. Don't get me wrong, I was extremely happy that they cleared his name. Most of the shows even remotely like this back then never had any kind of clear resolution like this show. However, it was always a disappointment to me that the finale was not up to the quality of the majority of the series. The way he finally proves his innocence was weak and a bit of a cop out. There were several great earlier episodes where he almost clears his name. Any of these episodes would have been an infinitely better way to end the series then what they ultimately used. I guess they used all their better ideas early on and then didn't have much to work with when they were finally ready to resolve things.

Lost (the alternate world explanation was just too "Hollywoody" and easy...surely these brilliant writers could have come up with something more creative?)

All in the Family - didn't even HAVE a finale...what a cheat for four of the seminal characters of American TV.

WKRP in Cincinnati - Again, no finale at all. Incredible.

Taxi - No finale, period. What happened to all of our beloved cabbies? We'll never know.

Roseanne- Had a finale, it was horrible, just like the whole 9th season. Pretty much felt like Barr spit in my face with that nonsensical "dream" thing.

Seinfeld - The characters we loved (while knowing they weren't great people) end up in jail. Wow, what a pepper upper. And not a laugh to be found.

X-Files - Great to see Mulder and Scully end up together, but did ANYONE understand the whole conspiracy explanation? And the courtroom drama, complete with ghosts, was terrible.

Dallas - J.R. commits suicide...maybe...we're not sure. The movie that came after tied this up (poorly) but seriously, to end a show like that? Another slap in the face to fans.

I would have to say Monk. The whole series revolve around Adrian Monk's refusal to open his wife's last Christmas gift. However... (major spoiler coming!) in the last episode (from what I remember) he thinks he's dying and decides to open the present. Inside is a tape in which his wife basically solves her own murder case. It's true that the writers promised to end the series with her murder being solved, but the way they did it was really rushed and it didn't seem to have much thought put into it. I remember my husband was VERY angry with the way they ended Monk, because that was one of his favorite shows. He got me hooked on it.

Also Full House. From what I remember when they first aired the finale, it had flashbacks to coincide with Michelle's sudden amnesia from falling off a horse, but every time I've seen it since then, there are none. I'm going to have to watch the DVD again. But I think they could have done something more dramatic like had them move away from San Francisco and leave their home or something... Oh wait... Fan fic idea hitting me now... Gotta run!

I thought 3's Company should have had a better ending

Thought on Happy Days Fonzie should have settled down with a wife.Built up slowly thru the last two seasons, in my opinion
Laverne & Shirley,Lost In Space, Gilligans Island( i don't count the movie(s)

I understand shows were canceled before they got a chance to wrap stuff up. But should have had the chance to tie e everything up. Oh well in a perfect tv world lol

Ally McBeal: shuold have ended in season 4 with Ally & Larry marrying.

Married with children: it was just a non-finale. The best thing for the finale of this show was made in an episode during... I don't remember well... maybe 5th or 6th season. In this episode Al lose his car, and try to find it. At the end of the episode we see why he wanted is lousy car back: in the truck there was a photo of the family during season 1.

Gilmore Girls

Buffy: should have ended in season 6, with the episode 'Normal Again'

Scrubs: well, in this case is not just an horrible finale, but an horrible 'last three/four seasons'.

I have a question for you sitcoms experts! :P
I've never seen the finale of 'Mad about you', and I think I never will (there are non dvd's planned for region 2).
You don't have to spoil anything... just tell me... was the finale good or bad?
Thanks :)

Sanford and Son
my favorite, I sure do wish they'd let Fred and Donna finally get married and I'd like to have seen him bury the hatchet with Aunt Esther (but ONLY on the absolute last episode)

Scrubs
why leave so much hanging? Just let Dorian and Elliot get married for real for crying out loud

of course, writers of finales probably take into consideration who's going to do a spinoff or more stuff going on behind the scenes

And I thought the MASH finale was genius, probably the best finale show I've ever seen

Lost In Space - They should've had them arrive at Alpha Centuri (sp) and it should have been an hour episode too.

Gilligans Island - They should have been rescued and it should have been a 2 hour episode 2

The Honeymooners - They should have one of Ralpha ideas pay off in a big way and the Kramdens and Nortons could have retired together.

I will come up with more as soon as I can think of some.

Will and Grace had a great finale except for the idea that Will and Grace were at war and separated for a long amount of time . As a long time fan from the beginning, I wanted to think that Will would marry Vince and Grace would be there. Other than that, it was good.

Friends last season could have concluded a little better. Yes it was great that M and C got their twins, Phoebe found the love of her life and R and R finally reunited for good. But season 10 could have also had Monica pregnant (Courteney was in real life) , the chaos of her giving birth and also getting her brother and best friend's wedding together, Joey in the finale could have made a reference to feeling he needed a change too , alluding to his move to LA.

i agree about caroline in the city if the producers even remotely thought they might be ending after season 4 they should have at least written some sort of rudameantrey outline for an ending that still would have been better than leaving us fans hanging

i thought it was wrong for the writers to split them up towards the end of the show; ideally, this ought to have happened during the middle of season 4, as well as that baby storyline. not towards the end of it.

i am a huge fan of that show and after learning that it was cancelled due to poor ratings, i expected that final episode to be handled much better by the writers, which they didn't do.

it was a horrible ending- if the producers were aware at the time that it was going to get axed, then surely they should've concluded properly.

nonetheless, i read the fanfics which conclude that episode and they give me satisfaction in knowing there was a happy ending. even if we never saw it on screen.

CBS' Christy (1994-95) - it ended on a cliffhanger because the network pulled the plug. The story was resolved in 3 made for TV movies on the now-defunct PAX network, but since most of the original cast had been replaced, it just wasn't the same. :(

Chico and the Man. To me, if everyone associated with the show loved Freddie Prinze as much and was as concerned for his welfare as they said, they should have honored his memory and let the show go after he died. I think the last episode that aired--though not the last one filmed--was about Chico becoming a boxer. At the end he promised Ed he would quit, but maybe a final episode could have been worked out that told the story of Chico going back on that promise and dying in the ring? Or maybe a happier ending, that he ran away to Mexico to be with his father? That was eventually used as the explanation, with his death being the ending of that scenario as well. They wanted to say Chico had died, but IMHO it should have come within a few episodes of Freddie's actual passing, not a year later.....

The King of Queens

I disagree. They dedicated two entire episodes in addition to the two part finale to wrapping things up. It wasn't like the show got a random 30-minute send off. They took the time to write an actual storyline for it.

Full House!
Ended with Michelle falling off her horse, getting amnesia. That would of been a good plotline, but not for a series finale. Michelle had tons of episodes that season, she didn't need to be the focus of the finale.

I would have ended it with DJ's high school graduation and her, Kimmy, Duane and possibly Steve making future plans about getting their own apartment together close to the school DJ chooses. DJ would find out she's class valedictorian. Stephanie and the guy she liked Andrew would still become a couple, only I probably would have brought him in earlier in season 8 so viewers had a chance to get to know the boy. Jesse and Becky would announce that they've been secretly looking for a new house and bought the house across the street.
