MTV to Remake "Jersey Shore" for the UK: Get Ready for "Geordie Shore"

"Jersey Shore" is spawning. It's been announced that MTV is capitalizing on the runaway success of its hit reality show by developing at least one international spin-off.
Brace yourselves for what producers says will be "the next big, must-watch, reality show" ... "Geordie Shore".
Like the US original, the UK version will be set in the northeast, this time in and around the English city of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Locals -- known as "Geordies" -- are renowned for their hard-partying ways and ability to survive the challenging local weather conditions year-round wearing as few clothes as possible.
According to The Guardian, MTV chose to base the series in Newcastle because its residents know how to have a good time come rain or shine.
"'Jersey Shore' is set in the summer and it is always summer in the northeast," said Kerry Taylor, director of television for MTV Networks UK and Ireland. "No one wears a coat and Geordie girls are always out in their miniskirts."
Taylor said "Geordie Shore" would be "loosely based" on "Jersey Shore".
"The things we are taking away is the great cast -- memorable characters who are funny and brash but at the same time warm and get on with each other," she added.
If the series is a success in the UK it seems likely that MTV will also air it in the US, thus giving stateside viewers a chance to see a picture of England far removed from 'Downton Abbey'.
Viewers can expect the usual heady "Jersey Shore" mix of booze, nudity and making out, but with a lot more Indian food, cigarettes and cursing. And probably way less gym time and tanning.
