"Daddy Does His Thing" wasn't the last episode starring York that was aired, but it was the last one he actually filmed. It was painful to watch. Of course he did a good job, but he had a pained look on his face and he actually wasn't in that much of the episode. Just stood in place for a couple of scenes. I'm sure he was in great pain at this time.

I REALLY WISH that Bill Asher had put the show on hiatus for three months so that York could have recuperated from the seizure. Even York has said that he felt if he had the summer to recuperate, he could have continued on with the series. Asher should have petitioned the network to let him do that. but I guess either Asher or the network would not have liked to go on temporary hiatus. What a shame. York's life may have been totally different (better) if they had just given him a little time to get better and then continue with the show......

DY was a trooper, right up to the end. It's so sad he spent the last years of his life in poverty (as a result of bad investments, etc.) and never got residuals that would've made his life easier. But he never complained, and made the best of his bad situations. What a great example that is for all of us.

That would have been nice of Mr. Asher to do. It would have been nice to have seen Mr. York finish out the series. :)

Yes, he seems to have been one of the down-to-earth, role model (you know what I mean) celebrities. (I don't mean about his medication problems, but you can see what I mean, I hope)

I bet Asher regretted it since the ratings went down significantly when Sargent replaced him.

It's too bad they didn't film around Dick York while he recuperated. They could have had Larry sent Darrin on an extended business trip to Europe and they could have shown him talking to Sam on the phone. Or else, Darrin could have really made Endora mad and she could have turned him into an artichoke for a few episodes.

Or they could've kept him as a jackass until Dick York recovered. Just say Maurice is nowhere to be found and can't change Darrin back. Then when Dick York recovers, Maurice suddenly returns and changes Darrin back. :D
