Every Christmas I always try to gather a bunch of christmas specials and sitcoms to watch. There's actually a list on wikipedia. Many shows have some great xmas eps and although there is mention that it is around christmas in a few Cosby Show eps, there is no true Cosby Show Christmas episode. "True" meaning, no christmas tree, no christmas morning, stuff like that.
This show was and continues to be one of my all time favorites. I think it was the 1st sitcom I ever watched. I just couldn't help but notice the no christmas ep thing.

I expect that was done on purpose in order to make it easier to sell the show into syndication where seasonal episodes can be problematic.

Eh, I respect your opinion but c'mon! This show was number one for 5 years in a row. Do you see what they put into syndication? Pretty much any semi successful sitcom makes it to syndication. Plus other shows didn't seem to be afraid of this. Didn't Roseanne have like 8 Halloween episodes in 8 seasons? If what you say is really the reason they made no true xmas eps, that's just dumb.

And I don't think "seasonal" is the reasoning....they had at least one Halloween episode (when Vanessa dropped the tray at the party when Robert finally came over to talk to her) and at least one Thanksgiving episode (when Cliff had to be sent back out into the storm for ingredients for the dinner)
Maybe they tried to stay away from religious holidays? I don't think they had an Easter episode either (well, few sitcoms do). But then again, they went to church with Gramtee and Clair sang with the choir that time.
I would sigh a hugh sigh of trivia relief once I finally get an answer to this one! I would have loved to see how a "rich black family" treated a gift exchange!

I have wondered that too. Along with the fact they made a big deal with Sondra and Elvin getting engaged, but we don't see a wedding. They just come back like hey we're married!

That's something that never crossed my mind. Hope to hear an answer.
