I read an old article which actually criticisized the house as being dirty or unkept....Do you agree? Disagree?

Edith kept that house spotless, cheery, and full of good food.

OH Nuts!

Not at all. It had a lived in look but that gave it charm - not filth. I agree with Vince 53, the house always looked quite clean to me.

I remember reading an interview of the person responsible for the design and "upkeep" of and on the AITF set. Apparently, they went to great pains to make the house look old and lived in. I think they wanted to make it look like the house of a blue collar worker and they did.

Frankly, I hate most sitcom sets nowadays. They always live in homes with spacious living rooms and kitchens and everything has 2+ floors. Not everyone lives like they pull in a million a year!

You're right. I love that about AITF. Archie's home is the kind of home most people have. It's clean, even though the furniture and wallpaper/paint is old. I also like when characters keep wearing the same clothes, like they do on AITF and I Love Lucy. I know I don't have a brand new outfit every day that gets tossed after one wearing.

Well said. I can't even argue with you.

I've never thought of Archie's house as dirty or rundown, but Alf Garnett's (the original Archie Bunker from the British sitcom Til Death Us Do Part, for those who do not know) house looks like it should be quarantined!

I always thought it had a tiredness about it, but never found it to be dingy or dirty.
