Were the additions of David & Maylou Baxter a way to keep Ted Knight happy? I read somewhere he was very unhappy about the progression or should I say degression of his Ted Baxter character. Were the additions to his family a way to try and comfort him? Anybody know?

I think they were a way to appease him. After all, that's why TPTB gave him a steady girlfriend (and later wife) in Georgette.
