by Kate Stanhope
Miss Nebraska Teresa Scanlan was named Miss America, becoming the youngest winner since 1933.
The 17-year-old recent high school graduate is also the first Miss Nebraska to win the title. Scanlan played "White Water Chopsticks" on piano for the talent competition and spoke about eating disorders.
Following her reign, she plans to attend law school and hopes to become a politician. She said she'll register to vote as an independent after turning 18 next month.
The Miss America pageant, celebrating its 90th anniversary, also featured its first-ever bald contestant Saturday night with Miss Delaware Kayla Martell, who lost her hair at age 10 because of alopecia areata.
She competed in a wig.
The judges panel included Joy Behar and "Dancing with the Stars'" Tony Dovolani.
The show was hosted by Chris Harrison and Brooke Burke.
