With great sorrow the family of Norman Liebmann discloses his recent passing December 20, 2010. To honor his wishes, there will be no formal services. Although a brilliant and popular writer with over 50 years experience in the entertainment industry both in New York and California, Norman Liebmann was a very private person - with his comedic and also serious side showing through in all his writings. He was a writer for many celebrities, most notably Jerry Lewis, Dean Martin, Bob Newhart, and Johnny Carson. His Internet nickname, ("FIREHAT") came from a friend, a graphics artist, who often said that Norman was on fire with his quick wit and never ending stream of quips, jabs and jokes, and so he created the image with the bowler top-hat and eternal flame that became Norman's moniker "FIREHAT". During his long career Norman was also involved in writing and producing in the fields of television, movies, theater and literature, as well as thoroughly enjoying the universal acclaim he received on his Internet site (Firehat.com). In an interview not too long ago, Norman was asked, "What about the future? Where are you going?" Norman replied, "There are many wonderful places still left for me to go. How 'wonderful' they will be may depend on whether or not I have been invited." We feel - and many have expressed the same opinion - it can only be UP!

He and his writing partner Ed Haas were credited with developing The Munsters from a format by Al Burns & Chris Hayward (who created My Mother, the Car the next year). Liebmann & Haas also cowrote the first season Dick Van Dyke Show episode "The Bad Old Days", which was one of two episodes that season to feature a dream sequence.
