Original Antenna TV Thread (Recreated):

Pavan 01-12-2011, 12:17 PM This thread is a continuation of the old thread http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=278022 which somehow was deleted.
bencasey 01-12-2011, 01:37 PM Anybody check a running time on Too Close for Comfort?
Pavan 01-12-2011, 02:43 PM It looked 23 minutes. Looked edited, but again clean editing. No speeding up or anything like that. The long theme was intact on the episodes I watched.

Jesus, this really sucks! My area (Boston) seems to be the only area not getting Antenna TV in some form or other. :thumbsdow
Jude The Obscure 01-13-2011, 01:43 PM ^Robert, I can assure you, your area is not the only one left...
LUNCH 01-13-2011, 03:12 PM It looked 23 minutes. Looked edited, but again clean editing. No speeding up or anything like that. The long theme was intact on the episodes I watched.
It's unfortunate that it was edited, but 23 minutes is not too bad for a show that ran about 25 minutes when it originally aired. And it's alot better than tv-land who are probably at the point of showing more commercials than tv show.I taped an episode of The Andy Griffith show off of tv-land,and I could not even watch it because so much of the show was cut out.
BigManMike 01-14-2011, 12:09 PM This is a great channel. I don't really care about the movies shown in the morning, but I love watching The Partridge Family, Three's Company, Too Close for Comfort, Maude, Good Times, Sanford and Son, All in the Family, and the Nanny. I hope they will show The Jeffersons, One Day at a Time, Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, Who's the Boss, and 227 on there at some point as well. This is so much better than stupid TV Land. No credit crunches and very short commercial breaks.
Pavan 01-14-2011, 02:37 PM If you liked local syndication from 80s-90s, then you'll love Antenna TV. Clean editing, short commercial breaks, no voiceovers/split screens and on-air bug.
Here Come the Brides had EXTREMELY short commercial breaks. I'm 100% sure it was unedited. Sometimes they only showed one commercial for the whole break.
They're not airing Burns and Allen and Farmer's Daughter on Fridays.
Jude The Obscure 01-17-2011, 05:06 PM ^Pavan stated in a previous thread (the one that got snafued) that Antenna TV would not air those previously stated series until they had enough episodes transferred to digital copies--B&A was stated as having been in need of a good restoration in particular.
Right. But the schedule lists them as airing on Fridays, and they have not.
Pavan 01-17-2011, 06:42 PM They were never scheduled for Fridays, JT. Must be an error on your station's part.
Anyway, The Ropers look to be starting Feb. 15:

Jude The Obscure 01-18-2011, 01:10 PM So it seems those two Ropers episodes are still technically ran as Three's Company episodes.
Pavan 01-18-2011, 01:36 PM Exactly right Jude. Here is our write-up on the Three's Company spin-offs: http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2011/01/antenna-tv-premieres-ropers-on-feb-15.html
Jude The Obscure 01-18-2011, 01:42 PM Ahh thanks! so there are actually 28 episodes.
FTR, now I'm bugging my Fox station to add Antenna TV, since the CBS and ABC stations don't seem to be interested.
Pavan 01-18-2011, 02:10 PM 28 total episodes, but two of those air as Three's Company episodes in syndication.
Jude The Obscure 01-18-2011, 02:12 PM ^ but those 2 episodes aren't on Three's Company DVDs, correct?
Pavan 01-18-2011, 02:27 PM No, those are not on the Three's Company DVDs because those two episodes are originally The Ropers episodes but in syndication ONLY they air as Three's Company episodes.
They were never scheduled for Fridays, JT. Must be an error on your station's part.
Or on Antenna TV's part? The schedule you have posted here has B&A and TFD on Fridays.
Pavan 01-19-2011, 12:53 AM That might have been my mistake when the other thread was deleted by accident. They never had it scheduled on Fridays after the decision to pull those shows for now.
Ooooh okay :) Just making sure.
storrs19 01-19-2011, 11:52 AM Amazingly it is slated to begin here in Louisville, Ky in February on channel 41.2 although not on cable. Insight has to be the cheapest cable company on this planet (although their bill keeps going up).
Pavan 01-19-2011, 11:56 AM It started in Louisville yesterday on WDRB 41.2. So cable will take some time. Try e-mailing Insight and/or WDRB.

I've mentioned it before but, every cable and satellite company should make it a priority to carry this station and ME-TV.--These are 2 channels that alot of people want.2 stations that would have alot of steady viewers. You would think cable and satellite companies would welcome these stations with open arms, considering the majority of once good tv stations have become...worthless.Aren't enough people already either fed up with cable etc. and/or cancelling cable etc. altogether.
storrs19 01-20-2011, 11:07 AM It's on now in Louisville, KY on 41.2 over the air. I agree that cable companies need to carry channels like AntennaTV, RetroTV, and Me-TV. You are correct in the fact that people want to see those programs again.
Pavan 01-25-2011, 01:11 PM Antenna TV is now live on Comcast systems in NYC/NJ/Philly on channel 252!
MrBand 01-25-2011, 09:33 PM Antenna TV is now live on Comcast systems in NYC/NJ/Philly on channel 252!

I've contacted several people at WDRB and they said it will be coming to Insight, but when it will come is another question.
VisualSensation 01-30-2011, 09:08 PM Pavan, I'm not sure if you've already answered this but I can't find the answer anywhere...Will AntennaTV be showing all 129 episodes of Too Close For Comfort? Thanks.
Pavan 01-31-2011, 12:54 AM I think they will be, I don't see why not since broadcast syndication has always aired them all (even The Ted Knight Show seasons).
Mr Stu 01-31-2011, 11:35 PM Pavan,
Have you been following Maude on Antenna TV?
I noticed on the past few episodes when the 3rd season started (74-75) Esther Rolle (Florida) is in the opening credits (instead of Rue McClanahan) even after Esther Rolle left Maude to star in Good Times. And in these episodes, Rue McClanahan (Vivian) is in the episodes and not even in the ending credits. Is this the way the Antenna TV received the syndicated copies?
Definitely enjoying Maude as I have not seen the show in years!
chris31989 02-01-2011, 09:59 AM Kind of a dumb question, but is there a TV out there with a digital tuner already built in to it? I figure that just buying a new TV with digital is better than a converter box. I want to see Antenna TV. Feedback?
Pavan 02-01-2011, 11:23 AM Mr Stu, yes I have been watching Maude on most days. Antenna TV got standard syndicated prints from Sony, so that is how it aired in syndication. Very strange the credits are like that. I noticed on Too Close for Comfort they have either the long theme or a short theme, and the credit images are different.
chris31989, yes if you have a TV made after 2007, then it is automatically a digital set and you won't need a converter box. All you will need is an HD antenna and you're set.
MrBand 02-01-2011, 10:44 PM Pavan,

It seems that many of the Sony shows have openings inconsistent from their original airings. I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, and the Partridge Family have one opening in their color episodes (cast changes of Dick Sargeant and Brian Forster notwithstanding) that make it hard to pinpoint the original year of broadcast: they all have the same copyright date. The same is true of the Flying Nun, which has 1967 listed for all of its episodes.
BigManMike 02-02-2011, 03:21 PM Pavan,
Do you know when Three's A Crowd airs if it will air under the original Three's A Crowd title with the original theme music, or if it will air as a part of the Three's Company package under the title Three's Company Too, with the Season 6-8 Three's Comapny theme music?
Pavan 02-02-2011, 03:56 PM I think both spin-offs will have the original title and theme. Two more weeks until The Ropers starts!
Ronny G 02-02-2011, 05:56 PM I watched Maude yesterday and the opening titles are now correct: Esther Rolle is gone and Rue's name is up.
I'm glad that they're showing all of Hazel's many different opening credits. The show seemed to have changed the opening twice each season. Today, in the opening credits they were all loading up in the car with Hazel in the driver's seat.
1960'sTVfan 02-02-2011, 09:28 PM Today Antenna TV had the Hazel episode "License To Wed" scheduled. But instead a different episode, "Dorothy Takes A Trip" from the 3rd season was aired. I am wondering if some Hazel episodes aren't seen in syndication. If I recall, when WWOR aired Hazel, "License To Wed" didn't air either along with a few other episodes. Maybe Pavan can look into it and find out why some Hazel episodes are missing in syndication runs.

Better make that "Every cable and satellite company in North America"! I don't want to hear ANY excuses from either side of the border about why we can't get both of these great channels in Canada, or at least in Buffalo, which is really a suburb of Toronto!  The waiting is absolutely killing me! I feel like Fred Sanford getting one of his fake heart attacks!
"Elizabeth...where are you...I'm coming...I wanna watch The Monkees!"

They just told me "License to Wed" was not aired because of poor quality.
They also have one Father Knows Best episode that was like that, too. They made the change on Monday for both FKB/Hazel:
Tue 2/1 1:30pm/et
Delete: Father Knows Best #39 “Margaret’s Premonition”
Add: Father Knows Best #8 “Thanksgiving Day”
Wed 2/2 3pm/et
Delete: Hazel #44 “License to Wed”
Add: Hazel #70 “Dorothy Takes a Trip”

Thank you Pavan for looking into it. Hopefully no other episodes will be skipped, but we'll see what happens as the schedule progresses. It's possible there are a few more episodes that won't air. Fortunately I have the episode "License To Wed" recorded from film.
Jude The Obscure 02-03-2011, 10:31 PM Poor quality? if Sony is supplying, why isn't Sony delivering a better product? As for FKB, there's no excuse as that episode is on DVD and good quality at that.

Most likely, Sony supplied edited syndication versions of Hazel and Father Knows Best to Antenna TV. I have yet to see Hazel or Father Knows Best uncut in syndication. For the Father Knows Best DVD's, since the 2nd season I believe Shout Factory has obtained the uncut shows through the estate of Robert Young.
treky 02-04-2011, 12:10 AM Pav, what happened to "THE FARMERS DAUGHTER"? They were supposed to start showing it last month.
Ronny G 02-04-2011, 12:53 AM I read this on Antenna's Facebook page today and thought it was interesting (particularly the "tape" part):
Lloyd Kerbel - Did anyone else notice they showed the wrong episode of Hazel yesterday? The second episode of Hazel was supposed to be "License to Wed", which was listed in the guide and the next episode to be showed. Instead they showed "Dorothy Takes a Trip" from the third season. Anyone know why this switch?
Antenna TV - Tribune Broadcasting Company We had a bad tape and had to switch it out.
Lloyd Kerbel Are these shows still delivered to you on tape, or is that just a phrase?
Antenna TV - Tribune Broadcasting Company No, they are actually still delivered on tape... Beta SP. We have gone back in time and technology.
Sounds like Sony is saving a lot of money by sending Antenna TV the same tapes they sent out to TV stations 25 years ago. That's why some of their shows look cheap. They don't have enough pride in their product. By comparison, I've been watching Highway Patrol and Sea Hunt from (MGM's library) on This TV, and they look amazing and are uncut. It gives them a touch of class.
Pavan 02-04-2011, 01:20 AM Pav, what happened to "THE FARMERS DAUGHTER"? They were supposed to start showing it last month.
Their waiting for the tapes to come in of that and a few other series like Burns & Allen, Circus Boy, Bill Hickock, etc. I think you'll see them later this year. See our story from December: http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2010/12/antenna-tv-launch-schedule-changes.html

"BURNS AND ALLEN"? WOW!!!!
I just hope the episodes are uncut!!!
Now if we would only get an "official" DVD release of it, unedited and with extras.

Why can't they get, for example, the Sanford and Son, Maude, Three's Company, Good Times, etc. episodes that cable gets? TV One shows Sanford and Good Times uncut, and TV Land gets them complete then does their own editing, likely. Why can't they get them complete? I just don't get how that costs more or why Sony would still even have syndication prints from 25 years ago.
I can understand it with the series that are older and haven't been seen maybe, but I don't see reason for them to have to have edited prints of shows that have been in syndication a good bit in recent years.
Jude The Obscure 02-04-2011, 07:42 PM Most likely, Sony supplied edited syndication versions of Hazel and Father Knows Best to Antenna TV. Sony ought to be ashamed...regardless.
BigManMike 02-05-2011, 12:05 AM And why does Antenna TV still not have closed-captioning? I can understand that some of the 50s and 60s shows may still not be closed captioned, but the Norman Lear shows and Three's Company had closed captioning on Nick at Nite, TV Land, and other syndicated stations they aired on, and Married with Children and the Nanny probably had closed-captioning right when they were first broadcast, so why do they not have it on Antenna TV?
1960'sTVfan 02-05-2011, 01:32 PM Sony ought to be ashamed...regardless.
Well, this is the same company that did a poor job with the color seasons of I Dream Of Jeannie on DVD, and abandoned The Flying Nun on DVD with one season to go. So I don't think too much should be expected from them. The Hazel shows currently seen on Antenna TV are the same edited syndication versions that have been seen for years, but it's still good that Antenna is airing them. The only chance for Hazel to be seen uncut is if the series continues on DVD. There's talk that Shout Factory might pick it up but at this point it's just rumor.

It may not be Sony, but Antenna themselves who chose the old BetaSP tapes since they'd probably be cheaper than having new digital copies made. Just speculation though.
ComedyGuy 02-06-2011, 09:17 PM I have Time Warner but not Antenna TV however I do get WGN America

yep, I well aware of Sony's shortcomings.
At least those of you with Antenna TV get to see those shows in some capacity as imperfect as it is.
Ronny G 02-08-2011, 05:38 PM Hey Pavan, someone named ericnucera1002 reported on the Shout Factory message board that after Gidget finishes its run that they are going to start showing the New Gidget series! That would be awesome. Hope its true, but the poster didn't leave a source.
According to him, Gidget Ends on 2/27/11 and The New Gidget Premieres on 3/5/11 Antenna TV
Pavan 02-08-2011, 05:50 PM I don't think that is true, but I will check with them. That eric name sounds familiar and I remember we banned him here for posting fake stuff.
LUNCH 02-10-2011, 03:33 PM I have Time Warner but not Antenna TV however I do get WGN America
I also get WGN,however the cable company I use still does not carry Antenna-TV either, but I'm able to view the station using an antenna.
TVFactFan 02-10-2011, 10:49 PM Why can't they get, for example, the Sanford and Son, Maude, Three's Company, Good Times, etc. episodes that cable gets? TV One shows Sanford and Good Times uncut, and TV Land gets them complete then does their own editing, likely. Why can't they get them complete? I just don't get how that costs more or why Sony would still even have syndication prints from 25 years ago.
I can understand it with the series that are older and haven't been seen maybe, but I don't see reason for them to have to have edited prints of shows that have been in syndication a good bit in recent years.
Good Times is no longer UNCUT on TV One
I hope this channel will start showing the Honeymooners....
storrs19 02-11-2011, 11:27 AM I can't believe Sony is still sending out shows on freaking Beta tape!
That is a hoot. I guess they were their only customer once Beta died and they want to get something out of it. That aside I love AntennaTV and watch Hazel and Maude every day via Tivo.

Just to clarify, it was beta-SP which is an industry standard and is not the same thing as the betamax that died in the early 80's, beta-SP tape and casing look the same, some are large (there is also digi-beta) but none play in a consumer beta machine. I do agree that the tapes could have been digitized onto many more modern formats, the excuse as to why the original program schedule (with 6 months notice no less) was that Sony didn't have enough time to convert the tapes, since the cat is out of the bag re: converting to beta-SP especially for a company like sony, a entire season could be done on 10 machines in real time in less than 48 hours, the excuse was hogwash!
Pavan 02-17-2011, 07:42 PM Went through the premiere of The Ropers on Antenna TV today. Like Three's Company, it was standard syndicated prints from the 80s/90s. I compared it to my episode from Canada's DejaView, and Antenna TV's version had the shorter opening theme. Then after that there was no variation until the end where the locksmith rings the doorbell. That was edited out on Antenna TV's version. And the tag scene was edited out of course was also. Other than that, everything else was the same. I think DejaView aired it unedited (maybe a minor scene edited or so) but sped up. Their episodes came out to like 22:30. Antenna TV's was around 22 minutes but they didn't speed up the episode. One other thing was Antenna TV had the syndicated closing theme, because you don't hear Audra Lindley say "The Ropers was videotaped in front of a studio audeience."
Jude The Obscure 02-17-2011, 10:03 PM But it wasn't the "Three's Company's Friends...The Ropers" intro, was it?
No Antenna TV here still......and by the time I may get it, Antenna TV's schedule will probably changed to a different slate of shows.

No, the short "The Ropers" theme was used.

Love It with a few exceptions, we still need "Circus Boy" starring a young Mickey Dolenz as promised (perhaps an oversight on your part, since it was on the original schedule)
We need less stooges, they literally currently have three airing outlets, AMC, IFC, & Antenna TV........
I would love to see "The New Gidget" again and even though the idea (which I had already talked to Antenna TV about) was posted by a liar, it would be a great idea to run "New Gidget" in between runs of "Old Gidget"....
just my opinion, but "One Day At A Time" needs to return to a wide audience.
I love your nighttime plans, but please don't make me stay up in the middle of the night for recording (I record on industry non-consumer digital tape, then perfectly edit out the commercials, then transfer to DVD) Really want the last seasons of "Hazel" & "Dennis The Menace" because even if either series continues on DVD (Hazel season 2 just announced, and Dennis is just starting from Shout) I doubt Shout will continue to the end...after using the excuse not to continue "Room 222" because of lack of sales, so "222" was the first series abandoned on a website meant for abandoned series!
"Love" the addition of "Love On A Rooftop" (I know you announced that as a serious consideration by Antenna TV) but would really think it would be cool to reserve Saturday nights for failed "One season wonders"
great schedule though Pav my friend!

Good points! They could air the anthology/westerns on Sunday mornings from 7-10am instead of Stooges encores. 7am Showcase 39/7:30am All-Star Theatre/8:00am The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok/8:30am Iron Horse/9:00am Circus Boy/9:30am The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin
New Gidget would be cool, but like you said it was just someone spreading false information. And I totally agree with One Day at a Time...maybe put it on my weekday schedule at 2 instead of NewsRadio. I just put NewsRadio there because I know they have it.
I was told Antenna TV will work on a late night b&w block in the future...so I included that. And the failed sitcom block would be great, but probably won't happen as a regular part of the schedule. I hope it does, though!

Silly question but that seems to be an awful lot of work to go through. Why don't you just timer record to the hard drive of the DVD recorder and then edit it there and burn it to a disc? That's what I do with any shows I record off air.

Because shows like Farmer's Daughter, Burns and Allen, Circus Boy, etc. don't exist on tape in any format. They have to be transferred from the 35mm negatives. Those shows have never aired anywhere other than from 16mm prints, save for the handful of episodes of Burns and Allen that TV Land ran. So they don't even exist on Beta SP. If they were on tape at all, they would be on 1-inch as Beta SP wasn't around the last time any of those shows aired anywhere.

Nice, although I'd like to see Diff'rent Strokes and The Facts of Life a little bit later in the day when I can watch them. VisualSensation 02-19-2011, 10:57 PM It seems goofy that they air 14 episodes per week of The Partridge Family. It only has 96 episodes and started over with the first episode today.

the Jeffersons had enough exposure on cable
storrs19 02-21-2011, 10:46 AM I like most of Pavan's schedule and the schedule now isn't bad but I can do without Married With Children and The Nanny. Both are to new for me and I never cared for either when they were on network tv. I would like to see more 80s shows like Diffrent Strokes, Facts of Life, Webster, Mr. Belvedere, and Night Court.
What I really wish is that Antenna TV could get the rights to air complete 90 minute shows of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson from the 1970's until his retirement. That would be so sweet to see him again every weeknight at 11:30pm.
Also some of the many variety shows would really be nice but we will never see them as clearing the music rights would be to cost prohibitive.

We've had the ability to time shift record for 35 years now since Beta came out. What time a show airs hasn't mattered since the early 70s. Are you still living in 1972 where people watch shows when they air?

Nor does everyone have a car, a phone or indoor plumbing but those who don't are an extreme minority and I would think that if they cared enough about television that they are on a television forum, that they would have one of those things.
Ronny G 02-27-2011, 07:03 PM Pavan, Have you heard any updates from Ant TV regarding the Farmer's Daughter, Burns and Allen, and Circus Boy?
In the past, they've always said, "we're waiting for the tapes to come in.
But today I went on their facebook page and someone had asked them about Circus Boy, and they replied, "We hope to get Circus Boy."
They don't sound so confident now. Doesn't sound too promising.

They have no reason to edit the three stooges, those are short subjects not sitcoms and run only 15 to 20 minutes each. Antenna TV does air edited versions of sitcoms. 25 minute shows are edited down to about 22 minutes.
I used to watch the three stooges on TV in the 1960's and 70's. In those days, some of the gags that were considered overly violent were cut from the airings. I'm not that much of a stooges fan anymore, but I like the bowery boys quite a bit.
Pavan 03-20-2011, 08:10 PM Here Come the Brides airs unedited. Everything else seems standard syndication edits from the 80s/90s, which isn't too bad compared to the edits of today.
Rezny@gmail.com 03-20-2011, 08:43 PM Hey,Pavan.I have Time Warner Cable in Lincoln,Nebraska. Are WE ever going to get Antenna TV?
ComedyGuy 03-21-2011, 01:22 PM HUH?????????? These shows below are all edited
Three's Company
All In the Family
Good Times
Ropers
I din't watch these shows regularly back then or today or on Antenna TV

According to a friend of mine, the first time they ran the first season of Hazel it was complete and now they are airing it on Sunday mornings and cutting them. So much for their claim that they wouldn't do any editing themselves.
Pavan 03-22-2011, 12:30 PM Hazel was not unedited for the first season when they first aired it.

oh no! Let's keep our fingers crossed hoping that they're not going to start speeding up the credits etc. now!:(
janet42 03-31-2011, 07:59 PM I got this channel now too! Yahoo! :)
Jude The Obscure 03-31-2011, 09:56 PM ^Happy for you!
At this rate, I don't think it will come to my area...tired of begging the local network affiliates to consider this for their digital subchannels...it's like they are almost in the Stone Age compared to other markets.

Thanks Jude. Hopefully one day you will get this channel too because I think it will become pretty popular since TV Land isn't doing classics TV shows like they used to. :)
TVFactFan 04-01-2011, 08:00 PM I hate Antenna TV's Friday night schedule
No Three's Company

No All in the Family

I can see that. I don't understand why Antenna TV repeats the same Benny Hill marathon twice and the Three Stooges marathon three times. If they are going to do a marathon, they should show different episodes, not the same ones. Three's Company is moving too slow. But Monday is the last day of the Ropers, so Tuesday we'll have two episodes of Three's Company again. If they would get rid of the stupid movies, they would have more room to show more of it. It seems as if Three's Company is one of the highest rated shows on Antenna TV.
mets82 04-01-2011, 10:57 PM My only complaint is that Married With Children, All in the Family and Three's Company shouldnt be on Antenna TV. Married... is already on TBS, and now theres a marathon on CMT and I believe there on TV Land, I think. All in the Family is already on TV Land for now as well as Threes Company. I also think they should limit the Benny Hill and Three Stooges marathon. What I mean by that is that they should show them but not as many episodes. I mean that and the movies they show, I would get rid of.
Pavan 04-02-2011, 12:07 AM Those are cable networks. Antenna TV is not cable...it is designed to watch for free over-the-air like in the olden days. You need popular shows to get ratings but in Antenna TV's case, to have viewers aware of this "digital station." It can't be all rare and shows that haven't been seen in years. Antenna TV has a nice mix.

Any network affiliate etc. that does not carry this station is either clueless or could care less about what so many television viewers really want to see.

First of all MWC comes on TBS OVERNIGHT but thanks for mentioning the MWC marathon on CMT because I would have never known-lol
BigManMike 04-02-2011, 03:25 PM I think it's nice that Three's Company is on Antenna TV in the afternoon because TV Land only shows it in the early morning hours.

Not in Philly
Pavan 04-02-2011, 05:48 PM 5pm is early evening in the TV world. It's early morning from 4am-9am, daytime from 9am-4pm (sub heading is midday from 11am-1pm and afternoon is 1pm-4pm...with 1-3pm being early afternoon, 3-5pm being late afternoon), 5pm-7pm is early evening, 7-8pm is access, 8pm-11pm is primetime, 11pm-2am is late night, 2am-4am is overnight.
janet42 04-02-2011, 10:48 PM I think the Antenna TV is doing a pretty good job. A lot better than TV Land. Yes they do air a lot of Three Stooges and Benny Hill, but the other shows are good. :)

So far I think AntennaTV is great too. It's impossible to make a lineup that everyone likes, but they have done a good job of putting on a variety of popular shows, and they actually show them in order. Plus, they are extremely responsive to feedback and questions on their facebook page.

PLEASE,PLEASE, PLEASE let one of them be "BURNS & ALLEN"!!!
I hope it's not something like Circus Boy finally airing, lol. I HOPE HOPE HOPE it's NewsRadio (even though I don't get this channel yet)....
Since Hallmark quit airing it, I'd like for them to start airing "Who's The Boss?". It's a Sony show, so maybe it wouldn't be hard for them to get.
Pavan 04-07-2011, 06:38 AM I think everyone will like something.
chris31989 04-07-2011, 08:59 AM What would be nice is if they could replace the 11AM-1PM weekday movie and put in a few series in those slots. Hopefully, they keep Maude on the schedule, at least until this current cycle finishes. It's a delight to be able to see Season 2 onwards since the DVD releases are no where in sight. I just recieved Antenna TV last month, so I haven't seen the first cycle of the show from January except a handful of 1978 episodes.
Sanford and Son and All in the Family are good shows but they've been played so much on TVLAND that I wouldn't mind to see them replaced. Same with The Nanny.
TeeVeeCloset 04-07-2011, 10:04 AM I posted this on The Ropers board, but no one responded, (not a good sign), was anyone watching and recording "The Ropers" besides me? As usual (I think it is a plot to screw up the tapers), "The Ropers" ended with a whimper on Antenna TV on 4/4/11 without the last episode airing. They were running them in taped order, so that means the last episode was "Four Letter Word" which did not air. I managed to record every episode and Antenna TV screws it up at the very end. The problem began when "The Other Woman" was aired on a Thursday and the following Monday a few weeks ago. Quite fustrated, and am surprised not to see any threads about it....I don't want to hear how they had a bad tape, the usual excuse.

I heard that Burns and Allen as well as Circus Boy Mad About You and Soap would be added.
I noticed that too about the Ropers we got the Other Woman twice and didnt get the last episode, I was annoyed.

This was just posted on their Facebook page:
Antenna TV fans, you asked for these shows...Soap, Burns & Allen, Circus Boy, The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin, Iron Horse and Mad about You are coming to Antenna TV Memorial Day weekend.
Mr. Television 04-07-2011, 11:39 AM I'm waiting for Farmer's Daughter. I've never seen that show.

I asked about this on their facebook page when "The Other Woman" was repeated. The acknowledged the mistake and apologized, but I think they made up for it by not showing "four Letter Word" so that their overall schedule would not get screwed up. It's possible The Ropers might air again this fall once the Three's Company cycle gets back to it, but of course Three's company has to survive the upcoming programming changes.
Mad About You? YES! I've been thinking that show needed to be back on a national basis. Will fit with The Nanny and MWC maybe. I wondered if they may have it since it's Sony.
All they need is NewsRadio and they would have a nice little 90s block latenights instead of movies.
The rest of those shows I could do without, but it's nice they're being aired I guess.
1960'sTVfan 04-07-2011, 11:54 AM That's too bad about one Ropers episode not being aired. I considered recording these myself, but I don't think it's that good a show so I let it go.
BigManMike 04-07-2011, 12:00 PM I saw the news on facebook this morning. I am eager to see the new schedule. I am glad to see Mad About You. I haven't really seen the others much, so I don't know about them. I just hope we still have The Partridge Family, Three's Company, Too Close for Comfort, Maude, Good Times, Sanford and Son, and All in the Family. I just wish we were getting The Jeffersons, One Day at a Time, Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, Who's the Boss, or 227, but who knows, maybe we will in the fall.
LUNCH 04-07-2011, 12:15 PM No offense to anyone who likes "Mad About You",but I think it's is a mistake for them to air that show . They should mainly stick to the TRUE classic television shows, or in other words, 1950s-early 80s shows---like ME-TV does.--I don't want to see Antenna-tv turn into another TVLand.
CaliforniaKid 04-07-2011, 12:27 PM No offense to anyone who likes "Mad About You",but I think it's is a mistake for them to air that show . They should mainly stick to the TRUE classic television shows, or in other words, 1950s-early 80s shows.
I agree I like the older shows better but I am happy with these changes, I would much rather see Mad About You then the Nanny.
LUNCH 04-07-2011, 12:36 PM ^^^Yeah,if they are going to air "Mad About You",they really should drop something like The Nanny.Keep the more modern shows that will never be considered classics to a minimum.

As for The Jeffersons, ODAAT, Different Strokes, The Facts of Life, Who's the Boss and 227, The Jeffersons air on TV Land and I think TV One already. 227 airs on GMC, Who's the Boss airs on Hallmark but late at night, so that show, ODAAT, Different Strokes and Facts of Life should be on. Maybe the ION channel should put some of those shows on. They need more programming anyway. But I dont mind the changes. I think they should get rid of the movies, though. I havent heard of any of the movies they show and besides there is a 100 other movie channels out there, so you really dont need them on Antenna TV.
1960'sTVfan 04-07-2011, 01:50 PM They should mainly stick to the TRUE classic television shows, or in other words, 1950s-early 80s shows
To me, classic TV ended in the late 1970's, say 1977. Most shows are bad from that point forward.
I don't like this schedule as much, especially afternoons. Too much 50s stuff for my taste.
So much for a 90s block, Mad About You would have done better with The Nanny so it would have had something to go along with that is similar.
Hallmark doesn't air Who's the Boss anymore.

BigManMike 04-07-2011, 09:42 PM I totally agree about getting rid of the movies. I've never heard of any of them, and I never watch them. There needs to be more time for other shows. I wonder if anyone on here actually watches the movies on Antenna TV. I sure don't.
Why did they drop The Nanny? Not popular, rights?
mets82 04-07-2011, 09:53 PM I agree BigCookie, they should get rid of the movies. Btw, all the E/I stuff thats on Saturday morning, do they have to show that? I thought that was only for NBC, FOX, ABC and CBS.
Pavan 04-07-2011, 10:26 PM E/I is for all broadcast stations. Antenna TV is a digital broadcast station, but STILL a broadcast station. They are not cable. They have to show E/I, it's a FCC rule. Why else would they air it? And MeTV has it, too.
As for the movies, they clearly stated it is a TV and movie network from the beginning. There are 12 hours of TV comedies every single weekday and even more on weekends (Sat 7am-10am, 1pm-3am; Sun 7am-3am).
I don't know why The Nanny was dropped, but viewers have complained about it. I bet Mad About You will be the next one complained about the most. The rest of the new additions are fantastic and not seen on TV in years.
CaliforniaKid 04-07-2011, 10:53 PM I agree the new additions are great.
I occasionally watch the movies though if you asked me would I rather have more old television shows, yes absolutely.
treky 04-07-2011, 11:48 PM I'd also like for them to add more 50s shows, like "THE ADVENTURES OF OZZIE & HARRIET", "DECEMBER BRIDE", "PETE & GLADYS", "OUR MISS BROOKS" and other raritys.
treky 04-07-2011, 11:50 PM Pav, do you know if they're going to show the kinescoped episodes of "BURNS & ALLEN", the filmed episodes, or both?

what's "E/I"?
VisualSensation 04-08-2011, 12:00 AM I love the new lineup, but not really because I'm intersted in the new programming (other than soap). What I like the most is that the shows that are being replaced or reduced, are ones that have already cycled through or will have by the end of May. I think this shows the committment the staff has to making sure viewers of particular programs are at least able to see every episode once. Kind of reminds me of the ION network 5 or 6 years ago.
Pavan 04-08-2011, 12:05 AM what's "E/I"?
Education/Informative television programs that are required to air weekly on broadcast stations. I think 3 hours a week at least.
Pav, do you know if they're going to show the kinescoped episodes of "BURNS & ALLEN", the filmed episodes, or both?
Both probably. As for other classics, they are still working on Farmer's Daughter, Wild Bill Hickok, and the anthology series that were originally scheduled for launch. You'll see them, just not in May. All in due time, as I mentioned back in January when everyone was doubting when they pulled the shows.
WalrusIsPaul 04-08-2011, 02:01 AM I wish Pittsburgh,Pa would add this. There's only a hand full of shows i would want to tape to DVD, But there's enough to really want this channel. Reminds me of what TVLand USED to be years ago.
We are getting ME-TV here in Pittsburgh, Pa. , i believe it starts on June 13.
Unfortunately it's at the expense of RETRO TV. It's being picked up by WPXI our local NBC. Not sure about what channel it will be on but on fios it will be 462 which at the moment is retro tv. I don't watch retro anymore as i have taped the shows i liked. I just hope they don't add more shows i like that they haven't aired, now that we are losing it. But we still need antenna tv. Does anyone know if or when Pittsburgh is going to get it?
treky 04-08-2011, 02:19 AM I love the new lineup, but not really because I'm intersted in the new programming (other than soap). What I like the most is that the shows that are being replaced or reduced, are ones that have already cycled through or will have by the end of May. I think this shows the committment the staff has to making sure viewers of particular programs are at least able to see every episode once. Kind of reminds me of the ION network 5 or 6 years ago.
Heck, it reminds me of what TV LAND and NICK AT NITE used to be back in the day! With the exeption of old commercials, specials, funny promos, etc....
AT LAST SOMEONE CARES ABOUT CLASSIC TV!!!! I just have one thing to say about this channel :yourock:
party:
treky 04-08-2011, 02:24 AM unfortunetly though, I have a funny feeling deep down, that it's probably just a matter of time before they become like TV LAND.:(
I sincerialy hope that I'm wrong, though!
WalrusIsPaul 04-08-2011, 02:28 AM I loved nick@nite and TVland then, wish i would have taped a lot of the shows i liked when they were broadcast on Nick@nite and tvland. All i was really taping in the 80s and 90s was wrestling, with very few tv shows. lot of those shows are no where to be found on tv,A lot of those i know are on dvd in season sets, but a lot i would just tape off tv and not buy the series. Only some tv shows i like enough to buy the season sets when they are released
Seems the older these shows get the more forgotten the so called classic networks forget about them. Now how long will it be before these new classic netowrks become like tvland is now?
Where one day at a time, alice, hogan family, eight is enough, family, carter country. I know there's more I'm forgetting. I would love to see these 2 short lived shows, Palmer's town usa and Supertrain, would have i dvd recorder rolling for those
ComedyGuy 04-08-2011, 08:24 AM unfortunetly though, I have a funny feeling deep down, that it's probably just a matter of time before they become like TV LAND.
I sincerialy hope that I'm wrong, though!
I hope you are wrong too and imho TVLAND SUCKS and I hope they get their heads out of their A$$es and go back to what they once were.
I also agree that ION needs better programming.
I do not watch any of those movies on Antenna TV but I love all the shows especially MAUDE and To Close For Comfort, Benny Hill and of course The 3 Stooges.
I wonder if Antenna TV would show DRAGNET ??
Mr. Television 04-08-2011, 08:47 AM I'd also like for them to add more 50s shows, like "THE ADVENTURES OF OZZIE & HARRIET", "DECEMBER BRIDE", "PETE & GLADYS", "OUR MISS BROOKS" and other raritys.
I'd love for them to have them. It would be nice if they could have a black and white overnight lineup like CBN used to have in the early 80's.
brtcmfn 04-08-2011, 10:17 AM New line up looks great!
Can't wait to start seeing Burns and Allen
treky 04-09-2011, 12:40 AM yes, it does look GREAT!!! I just wish that "BURNS & ALLEN" would be shown in primetime since 3:00 isn't conveniant for me most of the time, and my DVR can't record this channel:( But, at least I'll get to see it at 1 am, which is conveient for me.
Now I wish they'd start showing "THE JACK BENNY SHOW" and the 50s "DRAGNET" in addition to the other shows I mentioned in one of my previous posts.
TeeVeeCloset 04-09-2011, 09:29 AM I asked about this on their facebook page when "The Other Woman" was repeated.
They made a mistake by airing "The Other Woman" twice, so they compound the error by not airing "Four Letter Word" again screwing everyone who was recording the series everyday loyally on the very last day NO LESS!....so they turn one mistake and turn it into two! Beside the fact who really cares if they extended the schedule by one day to fix the original error...OR they could have simply thrown "Four Letter Word" once that same evening @12:30AM, in the repeat slot. As a schedule programmer I would have choose that idea. I am not on Facebook, but anyone who was just as annoyed as me, feel free to post this other idea I had re: the 12:30AM showing, and no it wasn't pre-empted that night by an extended movie. They need to know that their decison making program executives need to "Think outside the box, or TV set" should I say!
TeeVeeCloset 04-09-2011, 09:33 AM I'm waiting for Farmer's Daughter. I've never seen that show.
Totally am with you, this is one of the series that was on the cancelled launch schedule, I am very satisfied with the new schedule though....I am not on Facebook for various reasons, could some nice member who is, inquire about "The Farmer's Daughter" or Pav could you? and report answer in this thread. Much appreciated!
Not being greedy here, but also does anyone know about "Love On A Rooftop" I belive Pav you mentioned it was being seriosuly considered?
And for what it is worth, I really think they need to pick up "The New Gidget", it is available from Sony.

Hey Treky- Why can't your DVR record Antenna TV?- Which service do you have?- I believe RTV has jack Benny on there schedule
CaliforniaKid 04-09-2011, 11:55 AM Hey Treky- Why can't your DVR record Antenna TV?- Which service do you have?- I believe RTV has jack Benny on there schedule
I have issues recording over the air channels with my dvr and I have directv and the only tuner they have that is comaptible with their dvr is old and only picks up a couple of OTA channels luckily for me Antenna TV is one of them but, it's annoying because my built in tuner on my tv picks up Thistv and RTV but, i can only watch them but not record them. bummer
brtcmfn 04-09-2011, 12:02 PM I have Dish and some of there recievers have built in OTA tuners- so all I have to do is connected an OTA to the receivers in put for off air and the EPG and DVR functionality works seamless. The only thing is the EPG states digital service but I can do manual timers. I also have a Dish DVR TR50 OTA DVR- That works great because the PSIP data comes through automatically from TV guide.
CaliforniaKid 04-09-2011, 12:09 PM thats similiar to the way it works with directv their tuner integrates the OTA channels directly into their guide the problem is their tuner needs an upgrade because it doesnt pick up the channels as well as the tuner built into my tv.

what about direct tv if i get an Antenna wil it pick up them 3 channels the same as dish is just wondering

Can't wait to start seeing Burns and Allen
To me, Burns & Allen is one of those dated 50's shows. I watched some episodes a few years ago when Me-TV ran them, I didn't find it funny at all. George Burns is dull and Gracie is stupid and really annoying with that whiny, nasaly voice of hers. Just my opinion.
CaliforniaKid 04-09-2011, 04:40 PM what about direct tv if i get an Antenna wil it pick up them 3 channels the same as dish is just wondering
You can get the OTA channels through the Directv box integrated into the directv guide you just need to get a special tuner that hooks up to the directv receiver, my problem is that I am 40 miles away and it doesnt pickup some of the channels up as well as the newer tuner i have built into my tv.
They aired a few episodes of Burns & Allen in December as part of the Antenna Tv Preview weekend and I loved them as much as I remembered back last time i saw them 20 years ago. I was always a George Burns fan so maybe that has something to do with it. I found it to be similiar in style to It's Garry Shandling's Show which I always enjoyed.
Ronny G 04-09-2011, 05:56 PM I am not on Facebook for various reasons, could some nice member who is, inquire about "The Farmer's Daughter" or Pav could you? and report answer in this thread. Much appreciated!
I asked them about it last week and this is what they said:
Antenna TV - Tribune Broadcasting Company: "We still do not have one of those tapes in our hot little hands yet. Sony has been working on Burns & Allen. We hope to have all of those for later this year."
Pavan 04-09-2011, 06:07 PM Totally am with you, this is one of the series that was on the cancelled launch schedule, I am very satisfied with the new schedule though....I am not on Facebook for various reasons, could some nice member who is, inquire about "The Farmer's Daughter" or Pav could you? and report answer in this thread. They are still working on Farmer's Daughter, Wild Bill Hickok, and the anthology series that were originally scheduled for launch. You'll see them, just not in May they say. All in due time, as I mentioned back in January when everyone was doubting that they would never air when they pulled the shows--now Circus Boy, Burns & Allen, Rin Tin Tin and Iron Horse are coming May 31. And we get two surprises in Soap and Mad About You!
Side note for everyone:
And for those that keep mentioning that Antenna TV could turn into TV Land one day with newer shows and original series: it's NOT going to happen. A. Antenna TV is NOT a cable network. I repeat NOT a cable network. B. Because of that, they don't need to generate ad revenue with original programming. C. They don't care as much about their ratings like their parent local stations because these programs are airing on a multicast on their digital stations. It's less pressure.
So just relax and enjoy because more good stuff is to come in 2011 (and beyond!).
I don't see anything wrong with a couple of 90s shows after midnight. MWC is 90s. Shows like MAY, The Nanny, etc. aren't normally seen in local syndication. If I got it, I'd love to watch MAY. Would go nicely with NewsRadio....if they ever air it! :o I think 3pm-7pm should be 50s/60s, 7pm-1am 70s/80s/MWC, and 1am-4am 90s.
Mr. Television 04-09-2011, 08:16 PM My only problem with 90's sitcoms is that usually once they start the earlier decades get neglected. And I am a MWC fan.
Antenna TV would not neglect the earlier decades. That's why I suggested airing them later at night. I think they need another 90s sitcom to go with Mad About You - it kind of sticks out on there by itself unless you consider MWC in with it which is kind of different.
stevea 04-10-2011, 09:18 AM One thing I don't get is wrong end credits on some of these older Screen Gems shows. On the FKB episode where Kathy went to camp ("Big Sister") -- this ep. had the wrong end credits. As did a DTM ep. last week. One would think the end credits would remain attached to the ep.
TVFactFan 04-10-2011, 09:29 PM I think MWC should air in the 12midnight slot instead of 10pm
CaliforniaKid 04-10-2011, 09:38 PM In the Los Angeles market Married With Children doesnt even air they use that time to show the local News.
TVFactFan 04-10-2011, 09:47 PM In the Los Angeles market Married With Children doesnt even air they use that time to show the local News.
What does local news have to do with airing MWC?
CaliforniaKid 04-10-2011, 10:17 PM What does local news have to do with airing MWC?
It has nothing to do it other then that here in Los Angeles we dont get to see Antenna TV's Married With Children airings they show the Local News instead on the Antenna TV channel.
treky 04-11-2011, 01:41 AM Hey Treky- Why can't your DVR record Antenna TV?- Which service do you have?- I believe RTV has jack Benny on there schedule
It probably can record it-but it's not hooked up.(I've been too lazy to do it:lol: )
We have Comcast, and we don't have RTV (also ME TV):(
TeeVeeCloset 04-11-2011, 08:16 AM I asked them about it last week and this is what they said:
Antenna TV - Tribune Broadcasting Company: "We still do not have one of those tapes in our hot little hands yet. Sony has been working on Burns & Allen. We hope to have all of those for later this year."
Thanks so much Ronny G and Pav, I did notice Pav you did mention "The Farmer's Daughter" status in a earlier post on about page 10...lol...sorry I missed it....was I dreaming about "Love On A Rooftop" being considered? Just wondering if you heard an update?
1960'sTVfan 04-11-2011, 12:10 PM Love On A Rooftop would be cool to see. Along with The Mothers In Law, I haven't seen Love On A Rooftop since it originally aired.
Another short lived 60's show I'd like to see again is Hey Landlord. If they can air Circus Boy, maybe there's hope for shows like Love On A Rooftop and Hey Landlord.
bencasey 04-12-2011, 09:16 PM Love On A Rooftop would be cool to see. Along with The Mothers In Law, I haven't seen Love On A Rooftop since it originally aired.

Hey Landlord isn't a Sony show. Its owned by MGM so you won't see it on Antenna. As for the Mothers-In-Law, the whole series is out on DVD. I'd love to see Rooftop, even though I have most of them from film transfers.
So, what's going on with Farmer's Daughter? Most of the other shows announced at the launch seem to be making their way onto the schedule. FD is the one I'm most anxious to see.
Pavan 04-12-2011, 11:40 PM ben, I answered about Farmer's Daughter three times already on this thread. Check the previous page.

My problem with them is that other than Here Come the Brides, so far everything that I've looked at, they are airing badly cut versions. Now we know damn well that Sony has complete transfers on most if not all of these series because most of them have been put out on DVD. So why on earth wouldn't Antenna make sure that they got the complete versions of shows rather than the butchered versions?
Pavan 04-13-2011, 06:35 AM Because they are easily available and ready to go for syndication. Everything is all ready. I bet you that Circus Boy, Rin Tin Tin, and Iron Horse will run unedited.
TeeVeeCloset 04-14-2011, 09:43 AM Because they are easily available and ready to go for syndication. Everything is all ready. I bet you that Circus Boy, Rin Tin Tin, and Iron Horse will run unedited.
I thought of that too and am counting on unedited versions, BUT...here is something that hasn't been brought up as to why they would pick syndicated versions for everything...Pav, I know you know all this stuff, so this is for the benefit of other interested readers...When a new station launches, they usually don't have many real sponsors, TV Land actually just ran old commercials in their first year....On Antenna TV you will notice that all you see (besides local cut-in's, which I am not going to explain here) are the commercials that are the standard #800 type buy this $19.99 product, these in the industry are called "P.I." ads which stands for "Per Inquiry", meaning if you buy the product using the phone specially assigned phone number given, Antenna TV gets a cut from the sale, if you don't the commericial ran technically with no money exchanging hands between parties, this is how most 30 minute infomericals work as well, but these can be very profitable for stations. Now Flashforward a year from now, when the standard advertising time is still about 8 minutes per half hour and the sales staff is actually successfully selling ad time to real sponsors, then Antenna TV would have to take all the uncut shows and replace them with cut versions, because they are not going to lose money if the show can be sold, plus many sponsors don't make ad buys by show title, they buy what the industry calls "Dayparts" meaning, morning, afternoon, evening, & overnights. All of this makes perfect sense, because for any station to stay on the air they must eventually turn a profit, especially in the case of Tribune.
stevea 04-14-2011, 11:23 AM I thought of that too and am counting on unedited versions.
DTM has never run unedited, that I know of. Same for FKB. The times are all almost 23 min. though, which is pretty good compared with the 20 or 21 min. which now seems to be the norm. I'd bet against all of you who are counting on unedited versions. I still says those are mistakes when they happen.

If you want to compare Antenna TV to another channel, the easiest one to choose would be ME-TV. So far, I would call it even since I don't have a hope in hell of seeing either one of them!

Of course, Antenna TV is run by a bankrupt and clueless media giant, while Me-TV is run by folks who actually are successful. Not that I'm biased :)

Why would you bother to quote only 10 words of the over 200 that I wrote explaining that "I am only hoping as others are for unedited versions" but then I went into great length as to why possibily the new aquired shows probably WILL be edited? It was a factual essay on how television and advertising go hand and hand, not a twitter message. Then you mention shows that I never said ran unedited like DTM, FKB?
CaliforniaKid 04-17-2011, 10:50 AM One thing I noticed this weekend is on KTLA the Parent Station that carries Antenna tv here in Southern California, they started showing a block of Dennis the Menace and Father Knows Best at 4:00 am Saturday and Sunday mornings.
So if anyone in So Cal has been wanting to see these shows but cant get reception they can still see them these two days, they are calling it KTLA's Classic TV Block.
Ronny G 04-30-2011, 04:22 PM I've been following Antenna TV on facebook, and I have some disappointing news. :( :( :(
Today (4/30/11), some guy named Frank asked about "The Farmer's Daughter" and Antenna TV's representative responded with the following quote:
Antenna TV - Tribune Broadcasting Company: Frank, I have bad news about Farmer's Daughter. The prints were in such bad shape that Sony was not able to remaster them. I am so sorry. I know many people were looking forward to seeing this series.
Another person named Steve responded and was a little more vocal, but I thought it was interesting what he had to say:
Steve: "such bad shape" - let's not use PR talk - just say that it's cost prohibitive to bring the prints back up to broadcast quality. Sony isn't going to put the resources into doing that if the costs won't be recouped and Antenna TV won't pay ...anything beyond the agreed licensing fees for the series. It's a business/economic issue.
Some series need more work than others especially if the negatives haven't been used in 25+ years when the last batch of safety 16mm negatives for syndication prints were stuck. I wonder if the color episodes are the ones giving them more problems than the B&W
ones.
Still, I find it highly unlikely that all the episodes are "in bad shape',and that Sony can't throw together a "best of" package for ANTENNA TV. They need to think outside the box. Even if it means supplying transfers from safety 16mm prints/negatives.

I don't really understand how the prints can be so bad. I know the show was on cable in the 1980's.

I've just made a few tweaks to the existing schedule to include the new shows, and I wish this is what they would have done.
LUNCH 05-03-2011, 12:42 PM I don't really understand how the prints can be so bad. I know the show was on cable in the 1980's.
I agree, and even if the prints of "The Farmers Daughter" are not crystal clear they should still run the show instead of something like The Nanny whose prints are very clear, but really does not belong on a classic tv station.I'd much rather watch a good classic tv show even if the picture is just average. I'm not really complaining though because over-all Antenna-tv is doing a good job.
I know I'm probably in a very small minority here, but I really, really want Mad About You to work for them because it hasn't been seen nationally for a while. I don't see anything wrong with a 3 hour 90s block late at night instead of another movie (their movies look less than appealing, to me at least) - they are not going to desert the older shows, and a 90s block late at night would not take away from them, they would still be getting the prime timeslots... I would move Three's to 11PM-12AM, air The Nanny 12AM-1AM, Mad About You 1AM-2AM, NewsRadio 2AM-3AM. That would remove a movie and give a little more selection, they have all three shows. I worry about MAY doing well just stuck there by itself. It needs a couple of shows to go along with it.
I think sticking The Nanny 11PM-12AM between Married and Three's was a mistake. I think it works better transitioning back in to the movies, later at night. Those shows are good lead-ins to the 90s shows I mentioned.
TeeVeeCloset 05-05-2011, 10:03 AM I've been following Antenna TV on facebook, and I have some disappointing news. :( :( :(
Today (4/30/11), some guy named Frank asked about "The Farmer's Daughter" and Antenna TV's representative responded with the following quote:
Just want everyone to know that the above post is correct, this is a money issue, Tribune (owners of Antenna TV) are technically in bankrupt proceedings, it is not suppose to effect their TV outlets, but deep down I wouldn't be surprised if Antenna TV just went away one morning without notice...I give them major kudos for starting such an endevor during difficult economic times, but if they don't get "real commercials" within the first year, it will be difficult to stay afloat. If anyone is seriously interested find my essay on what "PI" commercials are elsewhere in this thread about 4 pages back. They haven't even struck any deals outside of Sony, not good either...they spent the dollars on "Circus Boy", which if it was a reversal, I would believe the "bad shape" story, But yes "The Farmer's Daughter" was on CBN in the 80's. Unless a DVD company steps in to restore them, that is the end of the series....the more disgusting part is the tons of massive money Sony does have and you would think it would be interested in itself to restore one of their properties. The Greed is disgusting and I wish the cast of "Happy Days" much success is their recent endevor to get some royalties from the suits that have been ripping off talent for years. This is just a small part, but walk into any casino (I love to see the old TV series based
slotmachines), jeannie, happy days, etc.....but it is wrong that the people don't get a dime for their likeness.

What it means in english is that Sony can't find the 1-inch tape masters that were struck in the 80s (besides CBN, the show ran in Dallas as well) and they aren't willing to go back to the 35s and do another set of tape transfers. Whether or not they even have a set of syndication 16mm prints lying around is iffy. But they could do a nice new set of transfers if they wanted to but its just not worth it to them.

again totally correct, such a shame, sony has so much money and they won't invest their massive dollars into restoring a series...digusting greed.

I wonder why they WOULD go to the trouble for "Burns and Allen" (there must be some problem with many of those--but I'd have to think not all, since a limited number of eps. were on TVL several years ago) and not for "Farmer's Daughter".

That's a really good question. Maybe they have a good set of 16mm prints on Burns and Allen but only have 35mm on Farmers Daughter? Or else maybe they think they can still get some other sales on B&A.
bencasey 05-22-2011, 10:27 AM DTM has never run unedited, that I know of. Same for FKB. The times are all almost 23 min. though, which is pretty good compared with the 20 or 21 min. which now seems to be the norm. I'd bet against all of you who are counting on unedited versions. I still says those are mistakes when they happen.
Really? Funny since I have a complete run on DTM taped off Nick at Nite and they are all complete and uncut. So much for NEVER having run unedited.
bencasey 05-22-2011, 10:32 AM Because they are easily available and ready to go for syndication. Everything is all ready. I bet you that Circus Boy, Rin Tin Tin, and Iron Horse will run unedited.
What about Burns and Allen?
stevea 05-22-2011, 11:16 AM Really? Funny since I have a complete run on DTM taped off Nick at Nite and they are all complete and uncut. So much for NEVER having run unedited.
I should have been clearer. Never ran unedited on Antenna, that I know of. There was another unedited Hazel the other day, though. I think it was the one where Hazel's nephew wants to marry Deirdre's daughter (gasp!)
Pavan 05-22-2011, 01:31 PM What about Burns and Allen?
We already announced Burns & Allen is coming. May 30. It'll be interesting if it is unedited. http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2011/04/antenna-tv-acquires-soap-mad-about-you.html

Yes, I know its coming. I was asking if you think it will be uncut like you said you thought the other shows would be. Also, why were they willing to make transfers of Iron Horse, Circus Boy, Rin Tin Tin and Burns and Allen but they won't do Farmers Daughter? And I know people who tell me that "elements are in bad shape story" is hogwash. I hope Iron Horse doesn't turn out to be the old CBN transfers from the mid-80s.
tiredmike59 05-22-2011, 06:05 PM I have some of those Iron Horse episodes taped off of the old CBN network.
Those were pretty bad quality, were'nt they ?

They were pretty bad but I have some that ran in Canada that were even worse. At least those were complete, not like the 45 minute ones CBN ran.

I hope it is unedited. When TVL ran a few episodes a couple of years ago, the edited out part was the skit they did before the closing credits. As I recall those skits were some pretty funny stuff.
CaliforniaKid 05-25-2011, 09:52 AM Did anyone else notice that yesterdays epiosde of Maude Season 5 Episode 13 Walter's Christmas Gift was unedited it came in at about 25:30. I hope they show more unedited episodes in the future though I doubt it.
storrs19 05-28-2011, 09:53 AM I thought that episode ran a bit longer than usual. I wish Antenna TV would show fewer movies and more tv shows. Or maybe move the bulk of the movies to the weekend. I really like the majority of the shows so far. I'm glad I dvr'd Hazel as it seems to be leaving the schedule. It is on Channel 187 in Louisville, KY now which is nice.

Our local PBS station has been airing unedited (30 minute running including the "Contented Cow" commercials) Burns & Allen episodes off and on since the mid 90's. They even leave the part in at the very end announcing what the next show would be from the original broadcast.

I'm guessing that these are PD episodes from the first 2 live seasons and not copyrighted filmed episodes.
Pavan 05-30-2011, 02:19 PM Just a reminder Burns & Allen and Mad About You launch today on Antenna TV and some time changes to series like Maude and Three's Company in early evening!
And this weekend will see more classics join like Soap, Circus Boy and Rin Tin Tin!
Pavan 05-30-2011, 03:31 PM There were three commercial breaks during Burns & Allen's first airing at 3p. Looks like 23-24 minutes of content. Anyone timed it?

I taped the second episode and its about 22 minutes. But it is nice to have George and Gracie back on television again!:)
bencasey 05-30-2011, 11:33 PM They come in at 22:15, commercial breaks all taken in the wrong spots and not the natural breaks where they are supposed to belong. I'm not surprised these aren't uncut, Me-TV used to show Burns & Allen a few years ago and I believe those airings weren't uncut either. I seem to recall seeing uncut syndicated airings of Burns & Allen a number of years ago back in the 1970's sometime, along with uncut You Bet Your Life with Groucho Marx.
treky 05-31-2011, 02:51 AM UH-OH!!!! Looks like they're starting to show edited episodes!!:(

Let's just keep our fingers crossed that they don't start doing it to all their shows!

Where have you been the last 6 months? Other than Here Come The Brides, everything they've been showing has been cut.
I know there have been a few other companies sign with Antenna TV, but most of the signed affiliates are still Tribune/Local TV stations. What is taking Antenna so long to get more affiliates that aren't just carrying it "by default" (like Trib./Local probably are)? MeTV got some major deals in April, but we haven't heard anything like that from Antenna. Bummer because I REALLY want to see Maude.

I haven't edited out commercials on any B&A's yet but have seen some pretty crude edits so far. Typical Sony/Columbia type edits. I'm guessing high 22 to 23 minutes, which is pretty good by today's standards...

I didnt see the CBN ones or the Candian ones but I watched the one today and it didnt look bad.
tiredmike59 06-05-2011, 03:22 PM Yeah, it was better quality than the ones I have, But when I sat down to tape it along with Circus boy, I got thunderstorm warnings shown at the bottom of my screen. oh well, I will have to wait till next time around.
MRPITT 06-05-2011, 03:48 PM unfortunately though it came in at just 46 minutes I was hoping for 50.
Pavan 06-05-2011, 11:16 PM It looks like Soap is airing unedited. Even the original disclaimer before the opening credits is intact.

I was going to mention that!! Thats very good. I loved the scene with Billy and his girlfriend. That was funny and they played off each other well. I'll tell you I thought Jimmy Baio was the highlight of the 4 episodes that I saw. I'm surprised his name wasnt really heard of after Soap.
What about Burt? His facial expressions were hiliarious. I'll tell you if you compare Richard Mulligan when he was on Soap as he was on Empty Nest, its like night and day. I mean as Burt he had some great facial expressions and all of his hand movements and gestures were funny. As Harry, he was kind of mild mannered, kind of quiet type of a guy.
SpenceOlchin 06-08-2011, 02:12 PM Looks like in lieu of Hazel, WPIX is showing a re-air of the 10PM news. I checked on the Facebook page and apparently other affiliates are doing this.

Our local Fox affiliate does the same thing to This TV in the morning. They have 6 hours of news...which happens to preempt all of the This TV half hour shows (Patty Duke, Highway Patrol, Sea Hunt, etc.). They even cut into movies in the middle, if they happen not to end at 4am. I don't get the logic of simulcasting something which is on their regular over-the-air station...

Not a big deal. Shout Factory is picking up the Hazel DVD releases.
IllinoisTVFan 06-12-2011, 07:36 PM I get Antenna TV being WGN is a local station. I am happy they are airing many shows but like any station I have some complaints. First off, I am thrilled they play the Partridge Family and the Monkees on weekends but wish they were on more often. I know though that other shows lasted longer so they have more episodes. I was sad to see them take off the Partridge Family from 3pmcentral. My other complaint was that I was hoping they would play more off network Sony shows like the Facts Of Life.
TeeVeeCloset 06-14-2011, 07:09 PM Maybe I missed it but here is what is going on with Antenna TV airings of "Circus Boy" & "Rin Tin Tin". First Both are edited to approx. 23 minutes.
"Circus Boy" A real novelty, at age 48, I had never seen it, the major appeal is seeing a young Mickey Dolenz billed as Mickey Braddock...anyway...besides the editing, they are skipping episodes..with two missed already by Sunday, June 19, 2011. Grade: B+
"Rin Tin Tin" Butchered remaster versions done in the 80's I believe, the entire background music is changed to make it more dramatic and there is a colorization credit alongside the entire redone credits, although the show airs in black and white, the Antenna TV bumber shows a few words from a colorized episode. Basically a total butcher job, but this is what Sony prepared when they tried to find "Rin Tin Tin" a new audience and created these again I think in the 80's. Grade: D
So again there goes the theory that the delay (at least for "Rin Tin Tin") was because the elements weren't transferred considering these are from 1980's remasters.

Capitol Broadcasting’s WJZY Charlotte, N.C., next Monday (July 25) will join the growing lineup of stations airing Antenna TV, Tribune Broadcasting's classic TV multicast network, Tribune announced today.
“We can’t wait to share Antenna TV with viewers throughout the [Charlotte] region,” said Sean Compton, president of programming for Tribune, “There are fans of classic television everywhere and we love bringing them the shows they want.”
In addition to WJZY's ch. 46.2, Antenna TV will be available in the Charlotte market on Time Warner Cable's ch. 147. The station is negotiating with other cable operators and expects to achieve full cable carriage in the market "in the near future," according to Tribune.
Antenna TV debuted on Jan. 1, 2011 and has expanded coverage to more than 50% of the U.S.
Much of that coverage comes from Tribune's own stations. Antenna TV airs on 19 Tribune properties, including WPIX New York, KTLA Los Angeles, and WGN Chicago.
WJZY broadcasts The CW on its main channel.
cantsayit 07-21-2011, 09:09 PM It's unfortunate that it was edited, but 23 minutes is not too bad for a show that ran about 25 minutes when it originally aired. And it's alot better than tv-land who are probably at the point of showing more commercials than tv show.I taped an episode of The Andy Griffith show off of tv-land,and I could not even watch it because so much of the show was cut out.
__________________________________________________________
I LOVE this Antenna TV I just discovered when finally getting an outdoor antenna hooked up. This network is fantastic! Kind of like TV Land used to be, before it started doing too much of one show too close to all day long. I wish these people never change Antenna TV's way of programming.
cantsayit 07-21-2011, 10:19 PM Jesus, this really sucks! My area (Boston) seems to be the only area not getting Antenna TV in some form or other. :thumbsdow
I'm sorry Robert for getting stuck in that situation. I know it sucked here for years once TV Land turned into too many of one show and there was no place else to go for good old tv shows. Hopefully you have high enough speed to get to try watching the GOOD shows on the computer until Boston improves itself and gets Antenna TV in your area!
eng51squad51 07-22-2011, 09:07 PM It been reported on AVS Fourm That AntennaTV is now gone Live on WJZY DT 46.2 and Airing a Three Strooges Marathon
Stumbled across this old thread. I knew I had seen Antenna showing movies at some point...
1960'sTVfan 04-27-2020, 05:58 PM Back in 2011 when Antenna TV was new I recorded the 3rd season episodes of The Flying Nun and put the episodes on to DVD's. I still have these. I recorded them because for whatever bizarre reason the 3rd season hasn't been released officially on DVD.
The negative thing- Antenna TV ran edited versions of the episodes so the episodes aren't complete.
The positive thing- there are no credit crunches, the episodes have full opening and closing credits. In 2011 Antenna TV was a normal retro channel and hadn't started the credit crunching nonsense yet.
installLSC 04-27-2020, 06:03 PM Its' surprising how little has been dropped. The only things not still on the air:
Married...with Children
The Nanny
Too Close for Comfort
Benny Hill
Gidget
The Flying Nun
The Three Stooges
Here Come the Brides
Merry24 04-27-2020, 06:45 PM It shows Antenna TV is sticking to its roots.
