Posts: 15,030 Tribune to Launch Antenna TV: Shows Incl. AITF-Good Times-S&S-3's Co.-Maude-Ropers

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/towerticker/2010/08/tribune-co-launching-digital-subchannel-antenna-tv-network.html

Tribune Co., following the lead of WCIU-Ch. 26 parent Weigel Broadcasting, is launching Antenna TV to supply digital subchannel programming for local TV stations, beginning Jan. 3. The new service will deliver a round-the-clock slate of vintage TV series reruns and movies from Sony and DLT Entertainment to a secondary digital channel of WGN-Ch. 9 and those of other Tribune Co. stations.
Tribune Co., which also owns the Chicago Tribune, also plans to make the service available to stations in other markets on a barter basis.

On most Tribune Co. stations, Antenna TV is meant to complement This TV, the pioneering movie service that Weigel and MGM launched for digital subchannels two years ago. But here in Chicago, where Antenna will air on Channel 9.2, Weigel's WCIU carries This and WGN will have only that.

This TV enjoys cable clearance in the Chicago area, as do Weigel's Me TV and Me Too programming. Not all digital subchannels do. They are available, however, for free over the air to viewers who use their digital tuners.
Sean Compton, Tribune Broadcasting's president of programming, said on Monday that WGN is weighing several options for Channel 9.3 here, including a possible simulcast of WGN-AM 720.

Antenna TV offerings will include "Three's Company," "Good Times," "All in the Family," "Sanford and Son," "Benny Hill," "Maude," "The Nanny,""Too Close for Comfort," "The Monkees," "Married with Children," "NewsRadio," "Dennis the Menace," "The Donna Reed Show" and Three Stooges shorts.

“Tribune is committed to making full use of our bandwidth to offer viewers a broad spectrum of programming,” Compton said in the company's announcement.

If it's going to be a supplement to This TV then it will be available free over the air. You wouldn't need digital cable to receive it. I hope it will expand to other markets with the barter deal, I'm sure Pavan will keep us updated with any further details.

I'm a little confused. Is this starting only in Chicago on Jan. 3rd? I get ThisTV here in Boston. Will I be able to see this channel? I would loooove to be able to watch "Too Close For Comfort" beyond the 2 seasons that are on dvd. :)

I still don't even get This TV on Time Warner Cable of Northern & Southern Manhattan, and in New Jersey, don't even get WGN! They dropped the pix digital feed in NY to favor keeping the direct feed of LATV...this whole digital channel thing as far as I'm concerned has been a bust so far, at least when it comes to getting the channels on cable....why aren't they must carries?

That is a good question TeeVeeCloset. I am not sure. I still don't have THIS TV either and I am REALLLLLLLLY hoping I get Antenna TV on digital. If not, I will just get a TV without cable and watch over the air. Anyway, here is why this station will be good and much more details on Antenna TV:

Just read the article. Thanks Pavan!

I'm so hoping I can get Antenna TV. I don't have cable and I get thisTV. So, hopefully, that's a good sign.

I really, really hope to see "Too Close For Comfort" beyond Season 2.

Is there anywhere we can suggest shows to carry? I think a block of rare one-season wonders would be excellent. Something different. Would be fun for us to watch.

Since they will be airing DLT shows, I hope they somehow find a way to air the short-lived series "A Touch Of Grace" with Shirley Booth of "Hazel" which is also owned by DLT. :)

I have been suggesting Sony shows to them (like Diff'rent Strokes, Facts of Life, One Day at a Time, 227, What's Happening/Now). It would be cool to see The Jeffersons spin-off Checking In in a stunt. Robert, do you have any Tribune-owned stations in your market? If so, then you will certainly get Antenna TV over the air at the very least, like you do with THIS TV.

Pavan, I would LOOOOVE to see both "Checking In" and "What's Happening Now!!" added to the line-up. If they picked up, "What's Happening Now!!" maybe they could group it with Shirley's short-lived series "One in a Million". Have been absolutely dying to see that for ages.

I'm not sure if there are any Tribune-owned stations here. I get THIS tv over the air with my digital antenna. So I am hoping the same will happen for the new channel. Can't wait to read more news as it becomes available.

Pavan, do you think you could pass on my suggestions for Shirley Hemphill's series along with Shirley Booth's series. This may be my only chance to see either of them. Thanks!!! :)

As of now, if you are in those 19 markets physically, that's the only way to get Antenna TV. That could change if more carriage is added closer to the launch date.

Best news of the day as WGN America just ended Outta Sight Retro Night and TV Land, well.....

However, as mentioned above, Pavan and I are in the WPIX market and our cable system doesn't even carry This TV yet. Strangely, they had both Spanish subchannels, but when one went off, they just took the channel off, but didn't add This TV. For a few days, the program guide listed This TV, but that too disappeared. Well, we've got until the January launch to bang the drum for Antenna TV!

I get thisTV. It comes in on my basic cable, my HD TV in my bedroom picks up DTV channels and thisTV is one of them.

I'm confused, so I get thisTV does this mean I'd get these shows?

As of now, Columbus Ohio is not getting it. As I said, only Tribune markets (please see the 19 listed above) have been cleared so far. But more will come outside of these markets. Stay tuned. THIS tv has been cleared in more than just the Tribune markets. So the same could happen to Antenna TV.

We already have ME TV and RTV in my market, so I'm guessing the odds are pretty low we'd get AntennaTV too, but I'm sure hoping for it after seeing that lineup.

Sean Compton would love for cable companies to carry it. So if you're in these 19 markets, you need to call and tell your local cable company to add it to your cable line-up. It is not a guarantee the cable company will add it, so you need to make them aware of it and request Antenna TV. It will for sure be available over the air in these 19 markets, if you don't have cable.

I'm with you pav, it wasn't worth it for me for "This TV", but if I don't get Antenna TV in the metro area through Time Warner Cable in New Jersey (HIGHLY UNLIKELY)...I will buy the smallest digital TV and hook it up to a DVD recorder, just so I can get some nice shows like Ropers, Three's A Crowd, & finally Dennis The Menace! I will not miss out on this new channel!

This TV really isn't impressive unless you like movies, many of them rare. They show some series at 4-7am, but that's all.

I hope this channel would take the place of RTV, locally here- once you've seen all 5 episodes of Emergency, The Rifleman, etc it gets old

Yes, but this is a digital station of a major station already, so it is easier for them to add it. This isn't going to be a cable network.

I probably would still be able to get it by just screwing the cable wire in back of the TV

Good. You'll see The Ropers and Three's a Crowd. And maybe Checking In on a stunt marathon.

I'm hoping beyond hope that they would show "Checking In" and other rare shows in a block of "gone but not forgotten" series.

Wow! People in Chicago are sure lucky. They get to have Antenna TV and ME-TV and the Stanley Cup for good measure! What did they ever do to deserve it? (Just kidding, guys!)

I suppose there's no chance they'll ever have Antenna TV in Canada---and I really hope I'm wrong on this one---so just to be safe I e-mailed their boss to see if they can put a channel in Buffalo just so it can reach over the border. They wrote me back to tell me that they will consider it. So stay tuned. It could happen.

I'm actually looking forward to this Antenna TV. I'm sorta looking forward to seeing Three's Company, plus, since we see 3 Stooges shorts on Me-TV in Chicago, then I'll get to see them (yet!) again on Antenna TV, you can't go wrong with that lol!

I am so ready for this channel!--Burns and Allen ! -Finally- hopefully all 8 seasons will air, Benny Hill, and much more- This will really make TV Land stand up and take notice

I already have purchased 2 indoor amplified digital antennas in case Dish or Comcast does not pick it up.

I will connect the indoor antenna to the back of the OTA connection on my Dish receiver and record on my HDD and then transfer to a DVR recorder or ext HDD to keep.

Does anyone have a DVD recorder?- Is it easy to record programs by pausing during the commercials much like a VCR?

How do I get this channel in NYC on a Time Warner digital cable box? Is it replacing channel 11?

If they don't carry it as part of there lineup then you will have to get it off air via a digital TV or digital OTA converter box and a OTA antenna.

It will be a multicast channel of WPIX

ThisTV, RTV, The Hub, and now AntennaTV...my fellow TVphiles, we truly live in the Golden Age of TV Syndication.

Independent TV's coming back, man.

If you get KTLA's digital stations on cable, then you have a chance. KTLA has THIS TV on its digital station right now.

Looks great... a couple questions though... what are "Showcase 39" and "All Star Theatre"? And if the TC rotation also includes "The Ropers" and "Three's a Crowd," will the AITF rotation also include "Archie Bunker's Place"?

I hope somebody around here adds it and then Charter adds it, but I'm not holding my breath....much better than RTV. RTV started off well but when they lost the Paramount shows it just went downhill, variety wise.

Very nice overall! Sony has some good shows to select from.

All-Star Theatre is this: http://www.tv.com/ford-theatre-all-star-theatre/show/26799/summary.html

Showcase 39 is similar. "Showcase 39/Ford Showcase 39/Ford
Television Theatre" (61 programs, 1956 -1957)

Good question about Archie Bunker's Place. I'll see if I can find out.

Glad to see that it's coming to Memphis. It will be on WREG which is CBS. The main channel is 3-1, and News Channel 3 Anytime is 3-2, so I am assuming this will make a new 3-3. I am glad to see Three's Company as well as the Norman Lear shows. However, I am a little disappointed that The Jeffersons is not part of the line up. You would think that with All In the Family, Maude, Good Times, and Sanford and Son airing, they would also air The Jeffersons. I guess not. But still, a good channel.

I'm hoping that the people who own our OTA RTV (it is its own station, not a sub of an affiliate) will use a sub channel or maybe the CBS affiliate will--to this date,it has not been using any of its subchannels for anything.

Ooooh, this is interesting. WGNO's sister station is WNOL, who has ThisTV as its digital subchannel. We get This, so hopefully we'll be getting Antenna as well. If not, I'm thinking a small indoor antenna is looking like a nice investment...

Can someone explain something to me? I don't have cable. I get all of my channels from an antenna. So I get thisTV and RTV. Does that mean there is a chance I will get AntennaTV. Or does there necessarily HAVE to be an affiliate. Just wondering because I'm not well-versed on this sorta thing. Thanks!

There's a chance you might get AntennaTV if one of your local stations decides to add it to another of their subchannels... send your stations letters and ask them to add AntennaTV!

He said "if" they are not part of your cable line-up. It's up to your cable company to add it or not. But first you have to be the market Antenna TV is available in. IF you are, you'll certainly get it over the air...but on a cable system, it is a 50-50 chance they add it. Just make sure you request to them they add it.

I have 6 of them. Not sure about the pause as I don't really bother trying to cut commercials live. That's so 1980s. I record it to the hard drive on the DVD recorder and edit from there.

I called Cablevision tonight and as usual, they don't know ****. I want to see if they are going to run these things uncut before I get too excited. It might be like Chopmark where every show is butchered beyond belief and has major time edited. I'll wait before I get too excited.

I knew Lousyville, KY wouldn't be on there. Hell, it took us years to finally get RTV which is the only channel I watch with any regularity. I only keep cable for sports, TCM, and the History-Discovery block. I love the looks of Antenna TV though. Finally somebody showing the real classics (read Black & White) on a daily basis as well as some great lost sitcoms like "Too Close For Comfort" and "The Ropers".

Yeah, over advertising is a big problem on tv these days.I don't think they'll run them completely uncut, but hopefully they will not over-do the commercials like tv land and others do.

I have dish network and I doubt this will be picked up on dish. Can anyone steer me to some info online about buying an indoor antenna and what else may be needed or any advice that can be shared? My concern is that I invest in all of this equipment and the picture may be poor. I live about 50 miles or so from Philadelphia, which is one of the cities listed for AT. I read that if you do not have a digital tv, you also need a digital converter box. It may be better just to buy a newer digital TV.

Thanks for any help!!! This new network sounds great- Much better than TV Land!

There may be a chance that I'll get this new network because I get KTLA, which is listed as one of their affiliates.

I did an experiment: I unhooked the cable from my digital TV and hooked up the old rabbit ears antenna, and lo and behold, I got KTLA's sub-channel, This TV. I don't even get that through my cable connection.

Of course, it's too soon to tell. I don't know if Antenna TV will replace This TV, or if KTLA will add another sub-channel.

I will also have to replace my DVD recorder because it is 10 years old and doesn't have a digital tuner.

Here's some great news for everyone who is still hoping to get Antenna TV in their area. I e-mailed them today and asked a few general questions and I got a quick reply. Here's part of that reply:

We are working on adding affiliates across the country. We may have a bigger list of affiliates to announce before launch. As for Canada, that's a great idea.

So stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed. It looks like a lot of you---including myself---should have a very Happy New Year, indeed, with plenty to celebrate.

This is mostly for the Los Angeles-area fans, but I emailed KTLA about Antenna TV and this is what they emailed me back:

Dear Ron,

Thank you for your email. KTLA will be adding Antenna TV to our lineup sometime around January 1st. We do not have all the details in place yet, but it will not replace THIS TV, but be a third channel for KTLA.

You can visit their website to see what is coming at www.antennatv.tv

Sincerely,
KTLA 5 Programming

So this is good news!! We'll still get This TV and Antenna TV.

I just found out today that AntennaTV will be replacing RTV here in Milwaukee. Not exactly the way I wanted to get it, but I'm looking forward to all the new shows.

If your market is not listed on the Antenna TV website http://www.antennatv.tv, then I urge you to ask them on Facebook if your market is being considered:

http://www.facebook.com/AntennaTV

Also, if your market IS indeed getting Antenna TV, you can ask them what channel number it will be on in your market, if you don't know. However, if you are wondering if your market will carry it on cable, you have to call/email your cable company for that.

We will have continued scheduling updates and more, so stay with us.

Question...for shows like Married With Children, what are they going to do if another local is already airing it? WAGT 26.2 in Augusta, GA airs it every night from 10-11pm, and Antenna TV will be airing it also..

..will they have to do like RTV initially did and have altered schedules for some channels when there is a conflict like I mentioned?

Interesting. I'll find out and post it, but they are not going to have customized schedules like RTV. It'll be the same everywhere, so I assume Married will be on both stations. But I'll check in.

You may want to ask that on their FB page, too.

Weird, I get THIS TV with just my regular cable connection, without any kind of box, but it's only on a TV that is HD and can get digital channels

OK, thanks! WAGT/26.2 is an affiliate of The CW Plus...I think most of the CW+ affiliates carry MWC from 10-11. Will be interesting to see. The uniform schedule will be good because maybe they can do more stunts, marathons, etc.

I guess this pretty much kills that .2 Network, because Antenna will be drawing from Sony, who they were hooked up with several years ago. It's been dead though.

They said Married...with Children (and every other show they will air) will be on all stations. So if it airs in another market, it won't matter.

Thanks...great news! This and Me-TV going national are fantastic and replace the voids left by cable, notably Nick at Nite and TV Land.

I asked them on their FB page if there would be a chance to see Mad About You or NewsRadio on the schedule some time as both are Sony. They'd fit well later at night. The Nanny and Mad About You aired in some sort of syndication package on broadcast several years ago. I know they are more recent, but it would be nice to see them again (I don't get Reelz).

I know NewsRadio was on their list of shows, so I wouldn't be surprised if it joined the schedule at some point.

Personally I hope we get at least a year before we see anything additionally past 1980! Usually a start up only is good with the golden age of television for a year or so before it is ruined! Married With Children being on the schedule is awful...How many Channels does this show have to be on? I mean here we have a start-up that actually is running "Circus Boy" which I have never even seen in my 47 years on local television at least in the NY area.

Looks like this station was created to rival Me-TV and Me-TOO. I found three shows on the schedule that interest me. Dennis The Menace, Hazel, and Flying Nun. I'll probably tune in to watch those shows.

I did until THIS TV became a regular OTA station here.......but I only get stuff like PBS.2 and.3 and other things in the digital 100+ on my HD TV (with regular cable).

Well, Me-TV and Me-Too were only in Chicago when Antenna TV was announced. Only this week Me-TV announced they are going national.

See today's blog to see comments from both Antenna TV and Me-TV National on competing against each other:

These are some more shows I guess we could potentially see on Antenna TV:

Just Shoot Me!
Steve Harvey
Mad About You
Bewitched
I Dream of Jeannie
Barney Miller
That's My Mama
Designing Women
One Day at a Time
Diff'rent Strokes
Sanford/Sanford Arms/Grady
What's Happening!!
Facts of Life
Silver Spoons
Who's The Boss?
227
Benson
then of course NewsRadio

These are just the Sony sitcoms, they have some dramas also (notably some Aaron Spelling ones) and one-year wonder type shows. I'm sure they don't have all of these, but I wouldn't count them all out. I guess they will have access to the same Sony shows ION did?

Let's hope they actually dig into that library and play some rare screen gems....(huh yuk yuk--pun intentional). These networks tend to play the same evergreens that have been over played for years....like when I saw Me-TV is gonna play the color Gunsmoke--my word, TV Land has played those to death--in fact isn't that the one show that has consistently been on TV Land since it started?? Why not play things like "December Bride" or "Pete and Gladys"? How can anyone know about these shows if no one ever plays them?

I would think Antenna TV is trying to start off with a strong line-up of fairly familiar shows (Three's Company, Married With Children, The Nanny, Sanford and Son will definitely score IMO) instead of trying more obscure stuff. Maude, Burns and Allen, etc. have not been seen in ages, though.
The Sony library is huge, so there is probably a lot of stuff in there to dig in to, so hopefully when they do stunts they will bring some rare shows out. The one year wonders might not be included though, who knows...like I said, I guess this is like the Sony package ION had. Let's hope they didn't go to the ION school of editing

Gunsmoke, assuming it'll be on then, will be celebrating its 15th year on TV Land next April!

I don't think any editing will be needed. They could be uncut since this will be a digital subchannel. And I don't think they have a library deal with Sony. I think they just bought some shows from them. Some others they have bought but not scheduled yet are The Donna Reed Show and NewsRadio. ION never had any of these shows, except The Partridge Family.

I think they still will be editing the shows.Half hour tv shows made during the 1950s-70s ran about 25-26 minutes with out commercials.I don't think these stations are going to settle for as little as about 5 minutes of ads per half hour.Though it would be nice. However hopefully they won't go the way tv land and other stations have. The quickest way to lose viewers is to show to many ads. Just a guess but tv land must now have less than 1 tenth the viewers they had back when aired only classic shows and kept the ads to a minimum.

The Donna Reed Show won't be a part of Antenna TV. A fellow member of my Donna Reed Facebook campaign e-mailed them and due to problems with the distributor, they won't be showing it. As it is, Sony only controls seasons 6-8 (and seasons 6-7 were out of the syndication package for many years, so perhaps the masters really need remastering). Mary Owen and her siblings (the heirs to Donna Reed and Tony Owen's estates) control seasons 1-5 and she has told me that Antenna TV has NOT contacted them concerning rerunning those seasons.

227
Benson
then of course NewsRadio

These are just the Sony sitcoms, they have some dramas also (notably some Aaron Spelling ones) and one-year wonder type shows. I'm sure they don't have all of these, but I wouldn't count them all out. I guess they will have access to the same Sony shows ION did?

That's My Mama is already on TV One
Steve Harvey is already on Centric
227 is already on Centric

That's very interesting about "The Donna Reed Show". I wonder what the chances are of seeing Seasons 6-8 on dvd if Sony controls them. Hmmmm.

As far as shows go, it looks like they have a nice starter selection. Hope it expands as time goes on. Would be nice for them to bring back a block of episodes (ala TV Land's Box Set) where they play rare shows like "Gloria", "It's A Living" or other shows. I know I would love to see some of the rare one-season wonders.

Los Angeles/CA update:

It looks like Antenna TV will be on sub-channel 5.3 as speculated in an earlier post.

Last night, while channel-surfing, I noticed a new channel pop up: 5.3.
They're showing the exact same programming on 5.2 which happens to be This TV.
I pressed the "INFO" button on my TV remote, and the screen said that the name of the channel is Antenna TV!!!

Obviously, Antenna hasn't started yet, but it looks like KTLA is getting ready for its launch on Jan.1.

A press release just went out, but it is nothing really new to us (except KTLA will get it on 5.2):

New Network to Debut on New Year’s Day on Multicast Stations Nationwide
50 million homes reached in first wave of station launches

Tribune Broadcasting is preparing to ring in 2011 with back-to-back marathons of classic TV shows The Three Stooges and Benny Hill on the new Antenna TV digital multicast network.

Antenna TV starts broadcasting at midnight, EST, on January 1, 2011 with more than 24 hours of The Three Stooges. The program lineup on Sunday, January 2, 2011 is built around a Benny Hill marathon.

“The New Year’s holiday weekend is a great time for viewers to have a laugh and settle in with great TV classics,” said Sean Compton, President of Programming for Tribune Broadcasting. “We can’t wait to share these great shows with audiences across the country.”

The network’s regular programming schedule, featuring a combination of movies and classic television shows including All in the Family, Sanford and Son, The Nanny, Married with Children, Maude, Good Times, Three’s Company, The Partridge Family and Burns & Allen begins on Monday, January 3, 2011. Legendary announcer Gary Owens is the voice of the channel.

Antenna TV will air on the digital channels of 19 Tribune Broadcasting stations in the U.S., including WPIX-TV (11.3) New York, KTLA-TV (5.2) Los Angeles, and WGN-TV (9.2) Chicago. Additional clearances include 13 LocalTV LLC affiliates and other stations nationwide totaling more than 50 million U.S. households.

Any idea about the movies? Will they be older, newer, rare, from Sony's library?

I was looking on the on-air programming guide for Channel 5-2 in Los Angeles, and it says "Antenna TV: Coming Soon!" starting Monday, Dec. 20 at 3:00 am PST. This continues through the next two weeks leading up to the premiere. Could we be getting an early preview?

Thanks for the great interview! I found it to be very informative.
I especially like this part:

Antenna TV's Sean Compton: We air the shows the way that the distributors supply us. We will do no editing on our end. We also will not be squeezing the end credits nor will we have an Antenna TV bug/logo on the screen during programming. Stations locally may decide to put theirs up, but nationally we will not display one.

They seem to want to run their tv station the old fashioned way,or in other words--the right and proper way.

So if there is a library deal, there are shows they may have that we haven't heard about?

I hope they don't wait forever to show NewsRadio! Wonder if they have Mad About You and One Day at a Time.

I do like how their schedule flows from 50s/60s-70s-80s/90s. Still prefer MeTV a little more (I don't care for the pre-70s shows ATV has), but I am excited about Antenna as well!

As someone who lives in Chicago and has had the joys of MeTV/MeToo for many years, I have a hard time taking Antenna TV seriously... especially since Tribune is behind it -- not exactly an organization that knows what they are doing these days.

But I'd be fine with having those preconceptions broken

They probably do have more since they will be rotating shows in and out the next few years. I would bet The Jeffersons and hopefully stuff like Silver Spoons and One Day at a Time would be among those. NewsRadio was bought, but I wouldn't mind if it doesn't air. That and The Nanny, to me, are not necessary but they are giving us a nice mix from 50s-90s. I agree with Sean that Married...with Children will be good for late primetime/early late night.

Just found out yesterday that Cablevision will have it in their system. Not really too excited about their programming, other than Farmer's Daughter and Here Come the Brides. It'd be nice if they got away from the mostly common crap and picked up some of the great short-run Sony shows, like Occasional Wife, Love on a Rooftop. Second Hundred Years, Our Man Higgins, Good Life, Nancy, Outcasts, Wackiest Ship in the Army, Young Rebels and things like that. Who needs shows like Sanford and Son, Good Times, etc. that are already all out on DVD? I can see them any time I want. We need stuff like Police Story and shows like that that aren't on DVD.

It's all about cost. Antenna TV is technically a broadcast station, so it would be really costly to air series that haven't been seen in years or bombed in syndication, because they cost more oddly. Cable would be cheaper for those shows, but broadcast costs a whole lot for some reason. Me-TV has the same problem, or they would air stuff that hasn't been seen locally in years like Dear John (from Paramount) or WKRP (20th TV).

I'd also really like to see them pick up some of the shows that Sony abandoned on DVD, like Family, SWAT, The Rookies, Police Woman, Hazel and others. At least now we should be able to finish Flying Nun and Here Come the Brides.

They are airing Hazel every weekday at 2. I think they are focusing on sitcoms only.

Except on Sunday when they are running shows like Wild Bill Hickok and Iron Horse. I don't mind them running sitcoms, I can't stand them running these common sitcoms, like Married with Children. Give me the Paul Lynde Show, Temperatures Rising and those Screen Gems rarities!

Good point about Sundays, but those are rarely seen/classic westerns. So I don't think The Rookies or Police Woman would fit that line-up.

Remember this is just their launch schedule, we could very well see those Screen Gem rarities/short-lived series in the future. This line-up they put together is a good one to sell their network to affiliates. Married with Children has more selling power than Temperatures Rising, lol. I think you know that. The network has a good mix of 50s-90s programming. I would not be surprised to see a short-lived sitcom stunt or even block from Antenna TV sometime in the future. I see nothing but good things to come, as Sean Compton is really a big classic TV fan.

The time to get the good stuff is usually when a network starts. From what I'm hearing, they aren't cutting so if they get shows complete at 25:30 for a half hour and 51 minutes for an hour, that's how it'll run. No guarantee it will be that way down the road. I don't really care if they put The Rookies on and cut it to 44 minutes like TV Land did.

Yes, they aren't editing, as they mentioned to us in our interview. But if the copies they are given are edited from Sony, then they will air them edited. I hope Sony gave them unedited masters at least for most series.

Anyway, got some news for New Yorkers. Just heard Antenna TV will now be on the new 11.4 instead of 11.3 THIS tv will remain on 11.3.

Cable stations update (so far!):

Chicago Comcast 353
Philadelphia Comcast 252 (for you Solomon!)
Washington DC - Launching early January Cox 809, Verizon 480
Houston Comcast 312
Seattle Comcast 116
Miami Comcast 226
Denver KDVR 31.2
Cleveland Massillon 127
Sacramento Comcast 197
Salt Lake - Launching early January Comcast 106 temporarily, Comcast 111 permanently
Harrisburg Comcast 246
Oklahoma City - Launching late January Cox 247
WNEP 16.2 Scranton Comcast 243, Blue Ridge 131
Des Moines - Launching early January Mediacom 114
Springfield Cox 843, Ritter Comm 22,
Huntsville Comcast 211, Knology H'ville 199
Chattanooga Alabama Cable Company ch. 5
Marguette, MI Charter 320

What I would really like to see is for them to do what TV Land did in its early days, before most people could get them, and what HA! did before that, and put aside a block of time for one-season or less shows. Also, the network is too heavy on sitcoms and weak on dramas. At least ME-TV seems to have a good balance between both. Unfortunately, this guy running the network is a kid and he probably has no idea what Occasional Wife or Love On A Rooftop even is. It would even be nice if they put Donna Reed on so we could record the last 3 seasons which will likely never come out on DVD.

There is a problem with Donna Reed (see Jude's post on the Donna Reed forum). Or they would have aired it, as it was originally planned.

Pav, I love your inclusion of Shirley's short-lived series "One in a Million". I've been wanting to see that one forever.

But still no luck with Boston getting Antenna TV yet. I was hoping it would work out but it's looking bleak at this point.

Got the first week episode schedule. Every series starts with the first episode and goes in order. Some goes production order (like Maude) and some go in airdate order (like Three's Company). The movies for week one range from 50s-90s. Any guesses on which movies you'd like to see before I release the titles for week one?

The episodes that aired during the KTLA sneak peek were unfortunately edited.
Sloppy editing. They would cut to commercials during the middle of the scene instead of the end of each act. Dennis the Menace, for example, was 22 minutes. Some shows had the old Colex ending. In all fairness, it might be KTLA doing the editing or maybe Sony gave them old syndicated prints from the 1980s that haven't been remastered. I really hesitate posting this info because it might be KTLA doing the editing because Antenna TV hasn't started yet so maybe KTLA got different prints (fingers crossed).

Good to hear they will be going in order. Let's hope they don't randomly skip episodes (and usually the same episode, each cycle) like RTV is famous for.

Yes, I saw that on Saturday, too (on ivi TV). Father Knows Best was the same way. I think it was KTLA doing the quick cut to commercials rather than the end of the act. I think Antenna TV will cut to commercial during the end of the acts. Hopefully. I think some shows will be unedited, while some won't, but remember Antenna TV are not editing themselves. They will air what they are given. It'll be fun to see which shows are edited and which are unedited.

OK, I know Antenna TV hasn't launched yet even, but I have an idea if they ever get another library deal...Warner!

I think their library would mesh well with Sony's, like 20th's does with CBS over at MeTV. They have some really great shows that I think would fit Antenna TV; Night Court, Hogan Family, Alice, Mama's Family, Gilligan's Island, Perfect Strangers, Head of the Class, then stuff like Just the Ten of Us. It's depending on if they want to go past the 70s very much, though (they are airing MWC, Nanny, and have NewsRadio, so I am guessing so). ION aired product from Sony and Warner from '06-'08.

Also the classic Looney Tunes shorts would be great and fit in with Totally Tooned In.

Tribune owned JOEtv in Seattle actually aired Looney Tunes marathons earlier this year.

Antenna TV has made some schedule changes to its launch line-up for early weekday afternoons and Sunday mornings. Why? Sony could not get all of the tapes of the rare series to Antenna TV in time for launch. Those rare Sony shows are still on film and they don't have most of the episodes ready yet. As soon as they are ready, they will be placed on the schedule. Shows affected are: Burns & Allen, The Farmer's Daughter, Showcase '39, All-Star Theatre, Circus Boy, The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin, The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok and Iron Horse. Thus, since most of the episodes for these are not ready, they will not be on the launch schedule but as I said, they will be placed on the line-up as soon they get a good amount of episodes on tape. We will do a blog story on this on Monday.

Changes as a result:

Weekdays
1:00pm Father Knows Best (was Burns & Allen)
1:30pm Father Knows Best (was Burns & Allen)
2:00pm Dennis the Menace (was Hazel)
2:30pm Dennis the Menace (was The Farmer's Daughter)
3:00pm Hazel (was Father Knows Best)
3:30pm Hazel (was Dennis the Menace)

Sundays
7:00am The Three Stooges (was Showcase 39)
7:30am The Three Stooges (was Showcase 39)
8:00am The Three Stooges (was All-Star Theatre)
8:30am The Three Stooges (was All-Star Theatre)
9:00am The Three Stooges (was Circus Boy)
9:30am The Three Stooges (was Circus Boy)
10:00am Father Knows Best (was The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin)
10:30am Father Knows Best (was The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin)
11:00am Dennis the Menace (was The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok)
11:30am Dennis the Menace (was The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok)
12:00pm Hazel (was Iron Horse)
12:30pm Hazel (was Iron Horse)

Wow, I'm surprised they aren't having that trouble with Hazel and Father Knows Best seeing they haven't aired in ages either. I actually like the Sunday schedule more than the one they had previously planned.

wow--you'd think a studio would have these ready for when any station or network would want to rerun them. But I know it is a time consuming process. Are they putting them on tape or converting to digital?

I think since FKB is practically complete on DVD, they were ready anyway. And a lot of these shows still had prints from the '80s Colex distribution era available. I can see why a show like Circus Boy wouldn't have been as ready.

Well that sucks!
The Farmer's Daughter is the one show I've been waiting for.
What have they been doing the past 3-4 months since they announced the station?

Sony is digging out the film to those shows and converting them to digital. Not sure why they are taking forever, but I think Antenna TV thought those shows would be ready by now. They don't have enough episodes to start them, so they will just premiere them at a later date when everything is available. There is a good chance that those shows will be completely unedited whenever they premiere.

clj2, as Jude said, Hazel and Father Knows Best have aired in syndication in the digital era (TV Land) and are already ready, as is Dennis the Menace. All three are also in the process of DVD or near completion.

Ronny G, you'll see Farmer's Daughter at some point. They are not going to give up on those shows since Sony is converting them.

Kind of disappointed about Burns and Allen not showing for launch- but I am glad that it will appear at a later time.
I did see the 2 episodes that aired on KTLA during the preview- they looked like really good copies and were from seasons 7 and 8.
What I don't understand is if MEtv has been airing the show- why are the copies not available for Antenna TV?

I think Burns & Allen's episodes were in terrible shape. That's why that was pulled. See today's blog sory:

Will Comcast carry Antenna TV and Me-Too in Fort Wayne or are they just available through local channels?

catsrule, I don't see Fort Wayne listed as an affiliate yet for Antenna TV (unless your Indy): http://www.antennatv.tv/affiliates/ - email your stations and request that they add it on a digital substation. You need to make sure you have an affiliate first before worrying about cable. If you are in the Indy market, then I suggest you call Comcast and ask. Antenna TV's website will soon have a zip code finder maybe later this week with FULL cable updates.

MrBand, that is my Comcast as well! I am still trying to find out what channel it will be on, but I am hearing channel 252 by mid-January. We'll see soon, I guess.

vesto94, you'll have to watch and see. Antenna TV is not editing anything themselves, as they stated in the interview they did with us. But if something is edited, that is how Sony gave it to them. Those rare series that Sony is finding episodes from the vault are probably for sure unedited, whenever they end up premiering. I can totally see The Ropers and Three's a Crowd unedited from DLT.

Cheryl Harrell, where are you located? I don't think DirecTV is adding it, as of now. Only over-the-air and cable providers.

Hi Pavan,

Any word about Time Warner Cable in NYC picking up Antenna TV? The only Time Warner cable provider I see listed on the Antenna TV website is Time Warner Milwaukee.

I'm in a Co-op building and do not have an antenna available to pick up WPIX 11.4 New York. My only option is Time Warner Cable NYC.

Thanks.

According to tvguide.com's tv listing schedule, "Married With Children" will not be shown on Antenna TV in KTLA-Los Angeles.
They will be showing a repeat of the KTLA 6 o'clock news.
I suspect its because the show is airing on another station, but I don't know which one?

that is no real answer, these questions need specific answers, we classic tv fans get screwed enough, with 99.95 tv bein reality crap, we deserve channels that give us unedited shows from the great tv past

"Interesting. WPIX and WGN local are airing Antenna TV as is. What about everyone else's markets?"

I looked at KDVR-31.2 in Denver and according to TV Guide.com and so far it shows the full entire programming schedule intact.

My local CBS answered me in that they will put their digital subchannels online with more local news, sports and weather....so I take it to mean that they are not interested in Antenna TV or ME-TV. I haven't heard from the ABC station at all.

As soon as they are ready, they will be placed on the schedule. Shows affected are: Burns & Allen, The Farmer's Daughter, Showcase '39, All-Star Theatre, Circus Boy, The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin, The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok and Iron Horse. Thus, since most of the episodes for these are not ready, they will not be on the launch schedule but as I said, they will be placed on the line-up as soon they get a good amount of episodes on tape. We will do a blog story on this on Monday.

Changes as a result:

Weekdays
1:00pm Father Knows Best (was Burns & Allen)
1:30pm Father Knows Best (was Burns & Allen)
2:00pm Dennis the Menace (was Hazel)
2:30pm Dennis the Menace (was The Farmer's Daughter)
3:00pm Hazel (was Father Knows Best)
3:30pm Hazel (was Dennis the Menace)

Sundays
7:00am The Three Stooges (was Showcase 39)
7:30am The Three Stooges (was Showcase 39)
8:00am The Three Stooges (was All-Star Theatre)
8:30am The Three Stooges (was All-Star Theatre)
9:00am The Three Stooges (was Circus Boy)
9:30am The Three Stooges (was Circus Boy)
10:00am Father Knows Best (was The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin)
10:30am Father Knows Best (was The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin)
11:00am Dennis the Menace (was The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok)
11:30am Dennis the Menace (was The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok)
12:00pm Hazel (was Iron Horse)
12:30pm Hazel (was Iron Horse)

One question could be brought up here. Why didn't the Tribune Co. check and make sure that some of the shows they were acquiring the rights to from Sony for Antenna TV could actually be run on modern equipment. This should have been thoroughly checked before the annnouncement of the first launch schedule. To me, this presents a creditibilty problem for them to say some of these shows will be on and then find out later after acquiring the rights to them that, Ooops!, some of them are still on film and then not have the right equipment to show them, such as equipment to run actual film which a television station or network would probably rarely have or not have at all today.

They were aware of it. They just didn't think it would take this long. They have some of the episodes ready but if they had let them remain on the schedule as is, they would have to go back to episode one for all shows very quickly and that would be pretty stupid since they would waste plays (each show has certain amount of times an episode could air per contract) for these early episodes pretty quickly. So it was better for them to delay these until everything was available. They will air later this year most likely since they have gone through all this trouble to convert to digital. Some of these shows haven't aired in years and Burns & Allen was in terrible shape, so it needs remastering.

I would hope everything would be getting remastered. My friend in Chicago has had many of these shows on ME-TV for several years now and he tells me that all of the older shows are cut. I am hoping that for this new national network they would have gone back and remastered complete versions of the shows. We'll know in a few days. If not, and all of these things are coming in at 22 and 44 minutes, then this network will be as worthless as the rest of them. I'm not interested in cut episodes no matter how rare a show is. So right now, other than Here Come the Brides 2nd season and if by some miracle Too Close for Comfort is uncut, there is nothing on the launch schedule I care about.

I was so busy with various projects that I didn't notice this information, BTW..their website still has the original schedule....I understand "the official statement blaming Sony" but to me there is more to this....I agree with the anger and fustration that other posters have expressed....(I wrote on another thread that I will be taking a break in 2011 from posting, but will update with any carriage info when I find out). Look we learned of this station as this thread began on 8/31/10, for them to say that Sony, one of the largest media companies in the country couldn't get the older series ready in time is either what we have known about Sony for a long time (their constant screwing up dvd releases) or yes Antenna TV (run by bankrupt Tribune) is not being run professionally. I had also mentioned awhile back that usually the first year of a station is its best before they ruin it or change directions (TV Land ran one hour versions of Sonny & Cher, had no commercials, ION actually ran Alice, Wonder Years, etc) I am predicting we will NEVER see these shows as promised, for Pav to say "later in the year" was like a gunshot to the chest...dramatic I know...lol....seriously "later in the year"....it's New Years Eve 2010! I think this is more about money spent on series for a station that many people won't even see at launch, so they are holding them back until cable companies and alike carry the station. I guess I should have known the old saying "If it sounds too good to be true, It usually is".....to promise us "Circus Boy", & "The Farmer's Daughter" was too good to be true. By the middle of the year, they probably will be running "Married With Children" 5 times a day! I guess I did pick the right time to stop posting....I was half way through setting up an isolated TV that I could record as well, and saw "This TV" yesterday for the first time here in the metro area, now I might as well disconnect it. Really this is a business disgrace on Tribune & Sony's part!

Later in the year meaning 2011, of course. 2010 is over with for televison. In fact, Burns & Allen could be ready soon.

Pav my buddy, I understood, that was my point....you want to hear a statement like "Later in the year" in August, not when it is the beginning of a new year! The only one good thing is that perhaps we will maybe get to see "The Flying Nun" season 3 since Sony dropped it with one season to go!

Later this the year could mean anytime in 2011, say March, June or September. I don't think you'll be waiting until August for all of these...

What does it say on your on-screen guide? Do you have a TV that has over-the-air as well? If so, watch 17.2. The network launches at midnight.

Anyone see anything right now in NYC WPIX 11.4?

Your Comcast is adding it on channel 252, not 253. Check what is on 252. Tango Traffic is going to be on 17.3, what is on there now?

252 doesn't exist right now. Just 251 and 253. So there should be a 252 at MIDNIGHT?

Not sure about when Comcast 252 is launching, but you should have it on 17.2 or 17.4 over-the-air at midnight.

Check 17.2, 17.3 and 17.4 as well. What do you see on all three right now? I'm guessing Tango is on 17.2 and 17.4. Antenna TV will replace that on 17.2, with THIStv on 17.3.

How did you see Tango Traffic? 17.2, 17.3 and 17.4 are over-the-air without cable. Do you have a way to watch TV without cable? If so, Antenna TV will be on 17.2 tonight at 12am. Email/call your Comcast and ask them when will they be adding Antenna TV on channel 252. It won't be tonight.

Where did the 17.2 stuff coming from? That's what I was asking. You can't watch TV without cable in 20111 unless you have a digital box.

Yes, with a digital box I mean. That is over the air. Antenna TV is not a cable network. It is a digital over the air network. But it will be on many cable systems, just not tonight. I think it will be added in Philly's Comcast in a few days/weeks. Not sure exactly when. But NY is 1/25, but it can be seen tonight also on 11.4.

The network launches tonight over-the-air on 17.2 in Philly. Check out www.antennatv.tv/affiliates

You won't see it only for a little bit. Your Comcast has signed on for channel 252, but you need to ask them WHEN it will be added. Email/call them. 1-888-COMCAST

Let me know what happens. I'm trying to speak with someone at higher up on Comcast this coming week and I will try and do a story for the blog on Comcast with Antenna TV.

Just got off the phone with those a$$holes and they had no information. I told ya, what is the purpose of a Comcast CSR?

Sorry, ugh. I will find out soon and let you know. I am guessing the same time as New York? 1/25. You should have one TV with the digital box as a back-up, so you can pick up the over-the-air stations.

I have been telling you today that Comcast isn't adding it tonight, but you didn't get what I was saying. It will be on over-the-air tonight. You'll have to wait a few days/weeks for Comcast to add it. I will let you know exactly when by next week.

The Ropers won't be airing within the Three's Company timeslots until week of Feb. 14 I think. You have time. And Three's a Crowd won't start until the last episode of Three's Company airs, so plenty of time left.

Is your TV new? Meaning a digital TV? If so, all you need is an antenna and you're set. That should be very cheap, too. Ask Radio Shack.

Yes, since the TV is already digital. All it needs is an antenna. You just have to make sure your TV is new and digital.

Most standard antennas that I've seen have a range of 20-30 miles. I don't know how far away you are from the station that carries Antenna TV but I would suggest an amplified antenna. I got one at Big Lots for 10 bucks and I'm getting 35 channels. With the standard antenna, I was getting about 15.

6.2 here in Milwaukee just switched over from RTV to AntennaTV at 11:00 pm. It went from the RTV promo right into the very first Stooges short "Woman Haters", without any sort of introduction. There's also a new, large and ugly "TV6.2" bug in the lower right corner. I'm going to miss RTV but will be enjoying the new shows on AntennaTv.

Are the stations calling themselves Antenna TV on-air? I've seen some are calling themselves "TVx.x".

Well, in Chicago here on WGN, there is no "bug" or ID on screen telling us that Antenna TV is on 9.2. It looks like they are showing the Stooges just as they should be, uncut and uninterrupted. So far, looks like a good channel for the 3 Stooges! (course it's not Stooge-a-Palooza with Koz, but still looks good)

Forget the morons at the cable company. I've been speaking to a very nice woman at WPIX who has been very helpful in letting me know the progress with Cablevision. You need to contact the actual station themselves for info.

Stooges is definitely unedited on ATV! Good start! Hoping this continues for Benny Hill tomorrow and the weekday sitcoms on Monday. If something is edited, hopefully ATV can ask Sony for the actual masters. ATV is not editing anything themselves. They air what they are given.

bencasey, who did you talk to and what number did you use for WPIX?

How is this one? http://www.amazon.com/Terk-Technology-HDTVi-Indoor-Antenna/dp/B0001FV36E/ref=pd_ts_e_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics / http://www.amazon.com/Terk-Amplified-High-Definition-Antenna-Reception/dp/B0007MXZB2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293908568&sr=8-1

If so, I recommend Solomon get that one.

I'm sure it's been asked, so I apologize. But just to double check, if you have Time Warner Cable in NYC, the channel isn't part of the package, right? It's only available on the digital converter box?

I'm still waiting for Antenna TV to premiere in Los Angeles, so no Stooge marathon for me.
(At least we got to watch it during the sneak peek preview two weeks ago).

Its been preempted. KTLA is showing repeat after repeat of the Rose Bowl Parade all day long today on its main channel KTLA 5 ...AND on its subchannels Antenna TV 5.2 and THIS-TV 5.3.

Why they have to show the same parade over and over on all 3 of its channels is beyond me.

Their main station channel 5 has the best reception and its in HD and is widescreen. The other sub-channels 5.2 and 5.3 are full screen and are at a lower resolution, so if I HAD to pick which 3 channels to watch the parade, it would definitely be their main station, so it wasn't necessary to preempt the other programs.

Also, during the middle of the night and into the wee hours of the morning, they showed repeats of LAST years parade preempting THIS-TV, so I didn't get to watch Sea Hunt or Highway Patrol.

Time Warner cable in NYC hasn't added Antenna TV yet. Not sure if and when they will add it, but you can watch on 11.4 over-the-air.

Those look like well-made antennas. The one I got at Big Lots works great but the antenna breaks easily when positioning it. I broke one and returned it and the same thing happened with the second one and it's going back tomorrow.

The Triquest works great so I would recommend it for that alone but for durability I would suggest looking elsewhere. If you buy the Triquest, be sure to save the receipt and all packaging if it needs to be returned.

This is very close to what I have. It works well for me, I'm using this around 35 miles from most of my locals and it pulls them all in after some adjusting.

The Radio Shack and Triquest antennas are similar in design and both should work fine but the Radio Shack cost $25 more than the one at Big Lots.

That's most likely a digital set which means you won't need a box. The manual would let you know if the tuner is analog or digital.

It has a menu that allows you to select what type of signal source is connected to the TV by choosing
(AIR or CATV). Then I select Autoprogram and it then cycles through all the channels. So it sounds like I just need the Antenna

Just pulled the manual and it stated after February 17, 2009, I will need a converter box to receive over the air broadcast wth an antenna. Plus I found out the TV has been discontinued-lol

So I will be getting a CB and a Antenna

First get an antenna. And try it. If that doesn't work, then get the DTV box. I seriously doubt a 2007 TV would need the DTV box.

I'm recommending the Terk amplified antenna. Whatever you do, make sure it is amplified. Set it up by tomorrow so you're set for Monday for some Three's Company, Maude, etc.

It was stated that it's a analog TV but it is surprising since it has all these features. So when did you buy your TV?

Likewise, I've read some good reviews on that one and I'll probably get one also.

Your Comcast will add it by Jan. 25, but I think you should get an antenna anyway. It's only 14.99 or less. It's good for back-up if your cable were ever to go out. I don't think you need the DTV box.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I contacted dish network to see if there were any plans to add any of the digital sub channels to the Philly local package. I was chatting with a CSR on 12/22/10 and she said "that there will be some updated info about new local channels being added in the Philly area in a few days". Nothing has been updated online and no new channels have appeared as of today. Has anyone had any discussions with DN about adding digital sub channels to local packages? I mentioned that I was interested in having antenna tv added, since it is in my market. I am wondering if the CSR was full of baloney or maybe I just need to wait and see what happens in the near future?

thanks for any comments.

rcbrad, I don't think DirecTV or Dish will add it. Only cable providers are picking it up. If you get Antenna TV in your market, it is best you use an antenna to watch over-the-air.

Solomon, your Comcast has signed on for channel 252 and most of the Comcast markets are launching on Jan. 25 in the Northeast. That includes me. If I were you, I would still get an antenna today for tomorrow so you can watch shows like Maude from episode 1! They might be unedited, so we'll see...

I'm not all that concerned about Maude. And since I found out last night my TV was not digital, I don't think it makes sense to but a antenna now because I will also need a CB. So i just have to wait. If all I needed was an Antenna I would have purchsed it yesterday

Why not just try an antenna? A TV from 2007 should be digital. Does your remote have the "." button after all of the numbers so you can enter 17.2? If so, your TV is digital! I bought my TV in 2007 and it is digital.

Thanks Pavan, I guess I just assumed that when the CSR said they were adding new channels to the local Philly market, (not even sure if the CSR knew what she was talking about at this point) it most likely meant the sub channles. I got my hopes up for nothing. My tv is too old, so I need a new tv and an antenna. I would rather put the money into a new tv rather than buying a box. I am at least 30 miles from the source, so I am not sure how well the reception will be? Pavan, Thanks for all that you do for this site!

Thanks rcbrad. If you have a good antenna, you could pick-up stations 60 miles away. It all depends on if you are near a lot of trees and buildings, though.

I believe verizon fios is supposed to be picking up antenna tv on channel 480 in the DC area. Any idea when they will be launching? As of today, it is still not on the verizon schedule. Thanks!!

No, that is why I came here to discuss this? You can get misinformation from a a CSR, but I generally I would like to think that somebody would not out and out just make something up?

I am not sure if you intended your response as ridicule towards me or not, but either way it's not funny to me that I thought her response could be true.

sijamo, not sure. You should ask that here: http://www.facebook.com/AntennaTV I would assume they will add it at the end of the month, as the majority of the markets that saw launches are just over-the-air right now (which is what this channel is all about).

I was saying that from what you post it was clear that she didn't know the answer but wanted to pretend like she did. I do give her credit for that because some CSR just flat out say-"I DON"T KNOW"

How is it clear in my post that she did not know the answer???? Being that antenna tv is being launched now and the fact that the CSR said new channels were being added at the same time, I thought that perhaps this was true.

Why in the world would you give a CSR credit for making something up rather than saying I do not know??????

Because she didn't answer your question directly. She said that NEW CHANNELS were being added to cover up the fact that she had no info on Antenna TV.

And yes I give credit to a CSR that tries to pretend they can help you rather than just flat out saying I have no idea. The CSR that pretends to know the answer is trying to give your good customer service. The CSR that doesn't know and makes no effort to find out or act like they know is just there to get a check and not address any of your questions or concerns.

I did not ask about antenna tv, I just asked if they were going to be adding any of the sub channels from local tv stations at some point. When she came back to give me the answer, that yes some are being added, I went on to say that I was hoping that it would be antenna tv.

It is NOT good customer service at all if a CSR gives a "pretend" answer, whether the CSR does or does not not make an effort to get a correct answer. I would consider a CSR who gives a "pretend' answer to also "be there to get a check as well". If a CSR gives a "pretend" answer the call would be a complete failure and the CSR would not have addressed your questions or concerns at all.

The Benny Hill Show is being ran unedited on Antenna TV. They are airing the half-hour episodes for U.S. syndication (not the one-hour British episodes). It doesn't matter anyway, since it is unedited. There were 55 one-hour episodes, so we will get about 111 half-hour episodes.

I noticed the Fremantle Media logo at the end,so hopefully this is the same source for The Ropers,Three's A Crowd and Too Close For Comfort, meaning uncut episodes

This is going to be a fun day tomorrow to see these shows and if they are indeed unedited. So far so good!

Three's Company tidbit: Three's Company could possibly have unedited episodes for the first time on U.S. television since the original ABC airings. If you don't own the DVDs, then you could be in for a nice treat. One more treat is that both The Ropers and Three's a Crowd will be added into these timeslots when they are due up. After "Moving On" airs, you'll see The Ropers episodes in one of the half-hours (on or about Feb. 14!). And Three's a Crowd of course will air after the final Three's Company episode!

Correct as DL Taffner LTD always handled US syndication for its own shows.

Yeah, it's on cable here.

Pav, maybe you have an idea on what Comcast is trying to do. We used to have digital cable, but it really wasn't worth the price, so we went back to regular/basic, but they told us to keep the box. The box gives us some channels that can't be seen on the other TVs (GSN, Oxygen, most of the digital subchannels including This, Antenna, RTV, and Create), and some of the channels that were originally number 0-99 have been moved to the 100s and are no longer accessible on box-less TVs (Lifetime Movie Network, CSPAN-2). Is this something that Comcast is doing everywhere, and is this some kind of sign that they're working towards putting a box on every TV? Because I'd love it if I could see Antenna TV and RTV on any television instead of just the one with the box, since they're all technically on the same cable plan/option.

Nevertheless, it's cool to see Hazel again! And I can't wait to see TC at a normal time as opposed to 3am. TVGuide's listings say that Burns and Allen and The Farmer's Daughter are going to air Friday. I guess that would make sense...if they have a decent amount of episodes converted and ready to air already, they can just air once or twice a week until they have enough to put them on every day.

Sorry if this was asked and answered, if I do get this eventually, will I be able to get it with just regular basic cable, would I have to unhook that and hook up an antenna?

Antenna more than likely. It's a broadcast network, not a cable network. Many cable providers are carrying it, though, so it could be picked up by your provider.

I was watching Three's Company on WGN 9.2 and it seems like that the episodes are cut. I have a DVD of the first season and I popped in the DVD to see if it was going to cut anywhere in the episode. I know in the first episode, it cut the scene of Jack cooking and talking to the girls and then when the other lady came to the door to look at the apartment, that was cut too.

Yes, Three's Company, Partridge Family and Hazel were edited. The only good thing is that they were clean edits and something you would see in the '80s/90s, not today's crappy editing. Three's Company even had the old DLT "yellow" closing logo at the end. Must be older prints.

Anyone watching Maude to compare?

During the second episode, they cut to commercial in the middle of a scene, and started a new scene after the commercials. There were some pretty bad lip sync problems too.

Yeah, that sucked. So there are at least three different versions of the pilot: the original, undedited copy; one that begins that scene with Janet opening the door for Pattikins; and this one that begins with the scene with Pattikins already in the kitchen. Which I think sucks because it cuts out one of my favorite parts ("Patricia--" "Call me Pattikins! All my friends call me Pattikins!" "Oh...well...Patricia...").

Interesting, and I'm showing my geek card here, but the episodes didn't have the DLT bumper that we're used to seeing on TV Land and the DVDs. They had a pretty plain orange production bump that must have been on the original syndication prints from the early 80s. So it's safe to say that Antenna probably has the edited, syndicated copies of TC, The Ropers, Three's a Crowd, and Too Close for Comfort. Sucks big time, but it's still good to have those shows on TV again.

Yes, JT Three's Company was definitely older prints with that older DLT "yellow" closing logo at the end. I haven't seen that since the TBS days. I think that part on the pilot where Janet says "Oh well...Patricia" was intact, though. Benny Hill was unedited, so who knows what to expect for Too Close for Comfort, Ropers, and Three's a Crowd.

Dennis was edited, too. Episodes ran approx. 22 min.
It sucks, but I'm not going to cry about it.
Glad to finally see the show again after all these years, plus the show is coming out on DVD if I really want to see the missing footage.

This sucks here in St. Louis we won't turn on Antenna Tv untill March. Plus the local RTV affilate went and switched to Daystar. With local classic tv we got nothing.

remember the good ol' days of TV when all you had to do was plug a set in and turn it on?

I hold judgment until Cablevision picks up Antenna in a couple of weeks. It's possible that your stations are cutting it and its not the tapes that are cut. Especially if they went in the middle of a scene. At least that's what I'm hoping anyway. If they are cut, then I guess I won't be recording anything or watching for that matter. Oh well. Anyone time Father Knows Best or Maude today?

Yeah, it's on cable here.

Hi I checked the TV guide website locally for WPIX 11.4 and no where is "Burns & Allen" & "The Farmer's Daughter" listed....my guess is that if you were viewing a digital guide, they were going off an original listing....please elaborate more on what eastern time you saw these listed, please? Secondly...I wonder what "Totally Tooned In" is going to be, as I have yet to see a description.

Thanks for clearing things up, I just thought TJ had some additional info, since he posted "The Farmer's Daughter" & "Burns & Allen" would be airing on Friday, but again that is a guide mistake as I expected.....as for your wonderful answer regarding "Totally Tooned In"...that is why you are "Pav" the master!

One last thing....I understand the point you made about TV land and not agreeing with me re: TV Land only being the good in its first year, and I agree they really didn't start to totally fall apart until that dreadful Sony Library deal!

BUT....I had TV land (actually attended the launch party at the paramount lot in CA), I have awesome pictures because all the old time celebrities were there and you could take pictures with them for FREE! I treasure my photos with gary coleman, rose marie/morey amsterdam, jack larson/noel neill and even charlie the tuna plus I got a specialized TV Land metal lunchbox filled with TV Land goodies!......my point was in the first year (which I still have my tapes) they ran shows totally uncut, had cute photo bumpers, and ran old "retromercials" to fill the time because they were commercial FREE! The moment after the first year and they began to get cable carriage (I was watching and recording off a satellite dish with the signal unscrambled!) the channel changed as it even changed from being "Nick @ Nites TV Land" to plain "TV Land" for branding purposes. Hope it clears up my point a bit....

And that's when they began running shows at 44 minutes instead of 50 or 51 minutes which is what they were supposed to come in at.

Here's something that I don't understand. Burns and Allen has been running in Chicago on ME-TV for several years now and they have the full syndication package of episodes. So obviously the show has been transferred to tape. Why are they not using the same tape copies that they provided to ME-TV?

I think Burns & Allen was the series that had bad quality on the episodes they had. The rest of the series need to be put on tape from film.

Are you sure Hazel is edited? I watched today and the shows looked complete to me. I also saw Dennis The Menace, those episodes appear to be edited.

When I saw it on Monday it was edited, but it was much cleaner editing. It looked like standard syndicated prints from the 80s/90s. The same goes with every other series they air on weekdays. The only shows that seem to have more choppier editing are Father Knows Best and Dennis the Menace. Perhaps they are newer prints.

Try timing Hazel.

So are any shows coming in complete or are they all pre-cut? And whatever happened to timespeeding? Colex, as Columbia's syndication arm was called in the 80s, pioneered the process. And now they've abandoned it in favor of butchering the shows with bad edits? I don't get the reasoning on this. I don't understand why if they are making new tape masters on these series they wouldn't do 2 versions, a complete one and a syndication one, in which case Antenna should request the uncut versions. Still think this network is better than ME-TV? Meanwhile, ME-TV is running complete and UNEDITED Dobie Gillis 11 times a week. Personally, I want to get Dobie Gillis far more than any of the unreleased shows Antenna owns. And they are also running the Phil Silvers Show, so if Paramount doesn't release the whole run on that, we can get that as well. The only show I was excited about on Antenna was Farmer's Daughter and if its cut, I can just keep my CBN versions of that.

I personally am looking for Burns and Allen and what I saw with the 2 episodes from KTLA a few weeks back- they were good quality and were not cut. As far as MEtv at least Antenna TV came through and was launched on Jan 1. Metv made this big splash about going national and had no affiliates even pending for the announcment. The FB page is pretty much dead on there side but the Antenna TV FB page is pretty active and they are actually replying to viewers which is showing respect for the viewers.

Dobie Gillis is one LOUD show, the actors overstate or shout their lines. When this show was being made, maybe the recording levels of the microphones was set too high, resulting in everything sounding too loud. I don't mind watching reruns of the episodes if shown on TV, but I wouldn't buy DVD's if they became available. In my opinion it's not that great a show, good for a few chuckles but nothing more. Also it's too LOUD! A thumbs up though to Me-TV for playing the episodes unedited.

Didn't watch Hazel today but maybe I'll watch tomorrow. The episodes I saw yesterday seemed to be complete. If I watch tomorrow I'll make note how much time is used for commercials.

BREAKING NEWS ALERT! I said I would return when news warrented, In major and surprising lightning speed an agreement has been reached to bring Tribunes' Antenna TV & WGN America (Finally) to all Time Warner Cable NYC metro area subscribers beginning Tuesday, January 11, 2011!! Time Warner Cable serves Northern & Southern Manhattan, Staten Island, and Southeast Bergen County...bottom line if you have TWC in the metro area or NJ you will get the channels. Comcast is still scheduled to start carrying Antenna TV 2 weeks later on January 25.

Meanwhile Cox in my area is removing channels from analog to the digital tier--OWN and GAC. All we have now in those channel spaces is a blue screen with the message that the channel is now on channel 100+--don't know if they intend to add anything else and no word if Antenna or ME-TV is coming to the market at this time. I've been told the new bills include a rate increase--they take away channels and INCREASE the fees. Bout ready to drop them.

For anyone in the DC metro area using Verizon FIOS antenna tv is up and running on channel 482. Funny, just yesterday I contacted them cause the channel was showing up on the verizon program guide but with movies. They said DC was slated for early February and then today, there it is with the classic programming on that channel. Just thought I would let everyone know.

My friend in Chicago seems to think its uncut as well. Can somebody who gets the channel just time an episode please?

I don't know if this is anyway related but one thing I notice is when I watch ME-TV, they air The Brady Bunch on Sunday mornings, the volume is a little louder than normal. It seems to only be with episodes of The Brady Bunch. I'm willing to bet this issue is a volume leveling issue perhaps needing to be fixed at the ME-TV studio level. I guess I'm not sure if any other shows that ME-TV airs is running into that same issue.

TeeVeeCloset,
Thanks so much for the update!! I just checked the Time Warner Cable NY/NJ website and this is what they reported under 'Upcoming Channel Changes':
On or about January 7, 2011 we will launch WGN America on ch. 162 and Antenna TV on ch. 166. On or about January 7, 2011 we will cease carriage of the simulcast of LATV on ch. 166.

I just checked and ch. 162 is not available, and ch. 166 still has LATV. Looking forward to both these new channels.

This is great news for Time Warner Cable NY/NJ customers.

Thanks again for the quick update of this great news!! :happyface

Also been watching Dennis The Menace. The episodes seem to have the same basic premise, there is always some sort of misunderstanding, the writers just put different spins on the situations. In one episode, the Mitchell's were rumored to have financial trouble. In another episode, they were rumored moving to New York. In another, Dennis and Mr. Wilson get their gardens mixed up. It's a cute show but I think the Dennis comics are funnier. The TV show is basically a subdued version of the comic strip. Network execs wanted Dennis antics toned down, fearing the show would be too wild for TV. Times sure have changed. Nowadays the wilder and crazier a show is, the better they like it.

I always preferred the animated series, but I liked the sitcom, too.

Also been watching Dennis The Menace. The episodes seem to have the same basic premise, there is always some sort of misunderstanding, the writers just put different spins on the situations.

Sounds like Three's Company without the sexual innuendo.

I've been enjoying Dennis everyday also. I especially like the chemistry between Dennis and Mr. Wilson, and how Dennis would unintentionally get on his nerves and drive him up the wall. It brings to mind other TV character duos like Gilligan and the Skipper, and Lucy Carmichael and Mr. Mooney--except I find Dennis less annoying because he is a little boy and doesn't know any better.

I haven't seen the animated series, but as a kid I used to read the Dennis comic books and always thought they were funny. The Dennis comics from the 1950's & 60's with art by Al Wiseman are the best ones.

The problem with the show is that they made Dennis into this angel who never did anything for spite or maliciously, as most kids do, especially one who is supposed to be a terror. Beaver Cleaver was more trouble than Dennis was.

Hank Ketcham's Dennis The Menace character is basically a good kid with a wild streak and a habit of getting in trouble. He is mischievious, but I dont see anything malicious about him at all.

Was Too Close For Comfort edited? Any idea on Maude?

I REALLY hope Maude isn't edited, but I would be extremely surprised if it is. Are the Norman Lear shows edited? I know TV One shows Good Times and Sanford and Son unedited. Just trying to get an idea of what is and isn't edited.

Hazel is indeed edited, I watched today and both episodes timed in at 22:30. Too bad.

EPIC FAIL - THIS IS ABSOLUTELY 100% PATHETIC

METV, THISTV, RETRO TV - GIVE US UNEDITED SHOWS

YOU PATHETICALLY THINK JUST GIVING US CLASSICS IS GOOD ENOUGH .... WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE WANT THE EPISODES UNEDITED - BECAUSE WE DO NOT WATCH THESE CRAP REALITY SHORT SHOWS THEY MAKE TODAY - WE WANT TO WATCH CLASSICS IN THERE ORIGINAL FORM

ALSO A MAJOR BBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOES TO THE EDITOR OR WHOEVER FROM THIS SITE INTERVIEWED THE TV PEOPLE AND DID NOT ASK THEM DIRECTLY ABOUT SHOW EDITS AND DID NOT CHASTIZE THEM FOR CUTTING SHOWS UP TO AIR MORE PATHETIC COMMERCIALS

I agree, but I am surprised when I see an old TV series have unedited airings of episodes. It does happen, but not very often. The almighty advertising dollar generally rules the day.

I suggest buying DVD releases or getting a time machine.

Any of the shows that are on DVD, I have. Unfortunately, there are many shows that will never make it to DVD nor have they aired in the taping era (post-1978) in uncut form. For those, we are at the mercy of the programmers and syndicators. As for the time machine, I wish. Take me back to 1965 right now, please.

The almight advertising dollar rules the day because without there would be no television channel for you to watch. And believe it or not, reruns of black and white shows from the 50s and 60s do not pull in a large amount of revenue.

Yes,but how many commercials are needed?5-6 minutes of ads used to be the standard per half hour years ago.Now television stations are pushing 12-15 minutes of ads per half hour. It's un-acceptable.Heck,I can't even watch an Andy griffith show re-run on TVLand(that I taped) because so much of the show has been cut out.--The FCC or whoever is responsible for the rediculous amount of ads allowed on television these days could care less about the viewers.Because if they did,the time and amount of ads would be controlled and regulated.

I'd like to go back too. The 60's was absolutely a great time for TV. Probably the best TV decade with the 50's and 70's coming in 2nd and 3rd. Entertainment wise, the best time in America was the 30 year period starting in post war 1946 to the bicentennial year 1976.

Time Warner Cable serves Northern & Southern Manhattan, Staten Island, and Southeast Bergen County, NJ...bottom line if you have TWC in the metro area or NJ you will get the channels. Comcast is still scheduled to start carrying Antenna TV 2 weeks later on January 25.

Just checked Time Warner Cable in Queens - Antenna TV is now on Channel 166 (and WGN America on channel 162)!!

They may have been a great time for TV, but not a great time for society in general. Racism, Sexism, Civil Unrest, Vietnam; no thank you. I'm perfectly happy with watching the shows in reruns.

I love all the 1950s and 1960s TV shows, too, but I wouldn't want to have grown up in that era for the reasons retrofan05 stated. I probably would have been drafted to serve in Vietnam when I turned 18.

I think what most people like about the old shows is that television had a strict morals code back then that the networks had to adhere to: married couples had to sleep in separate beds, Lucy couldn't say she the word pregnant, Jeannie couldn't show her belly button, etc.

It's not so much the morals code, some of those things were silly like the ones you mentioned. The difference is, TV shows from the 50's & 60's, and to some extent the 70's, were made with class and the actors behaved professional. It's gone downhill since then. Current TV shows are junk, talk about no class. And the actors cuss and behave like bums.

Every era has it's problems, but compared to today the 1940's to 1970's were pleasant times overall. It was a more innocent era, people were generally happy. I would go back to those days if I could.

I agree.I grew up during the 1970s ,I turned 20 in late 1985,and it was a MUCH better time to grow up.

maybe, but comercialls are what helps pay for shows; so unfortunetaly the problem will only get worse in the future.
