View Full Version : Would You Agree That 'Taxi' Had The Best Cast Additions Of Any Sitcom?
Brian Damage 01-11-2011, 10:17 PM John Burns left and in came Reverend Jim. Bobby Wheeler leaves and in comes Simka Gravas. One thing is for sure, so many careers exploded after Taxi premiered...

On BM, you lose Chano, Fish and Yemana, and get Dietrich, and Levitt and Lugar in expanded roles.
On MASH, Trapper, Henry, and Frank leave, and you get B.J., Potter and Winchester. I'd argue that in this case, the replacements were stronger than the originals (braces for impact, lol).

I agree! As soon as I saw the title of this thread M*A*S*H and Barney Miller came to mind. Dietrich was a great addition on BM and Levitt and Lugar in expanded roles were fun to watch. And i also agree that the replacements on M*A*S*H were stronger than the original characters they replaced.

Can't agree entirely about the MASH replacements.
All strong in their own right but you lose certain elements with BJ, Potter, and Winchester. With BJ I think he just wasn't as funny, with Potter you lose Henry's bumbling as one of the boys, with Winchester you lose Frank as an incompetent foil.
Losing Frank wasn't as bad though since you get a competent foil in Winchester which makes the success against him so much sweeter.
Plus, without Frank and Margaret as a couple it was almost unfair for Frank.
He became overly pathetic.
