The original announcer on Wheel of Fortune was Charlie O'Donnell and the first theme that was used was titled "Changing Keys." The theme was written by Alan Thicke.

That's what I thought.I got confused ( as,I presume, did other viewers )when, shortly before his death last year,he appeared on the show and said that he started announcing for the show in 1978.I think he meant 1975.Oh,well.I guess we all make mistakes.

It was Charlie. I remember seeing WOF in 1975 when I was in California. Back then, Chuck Woolery was the host and Susan Stafford was the letter turner.

Charlie O'Donnell was indeed Wheel Of Fortune 's first announcer then was replaced by Jack Clark and then when Jack Clark passed away Charlie O'Donnell returned to announcing duties for Wheel Of Fortune until his death then was replaced by the current announcer Jim Thornton. Other announcers who guest announced for Wheel Of Fortune were Rich Fields and Don Pardo and M.G. Kelly
