I used to be a huge Dukes of Hazzard fan. I thought it was a lot of fun. My question is, does the show still hold up for today's audiences? Is it campy fun or just hillbilly garbage?

View Full Version : 'The Dukes of Hazzard': Campy Or Crappy??? Brian Damage 01-08-2011, 09:49 PM I used to be a huge Dukes of Hazzard fan. I thought it was a lot of fun. My question is, does the show still hold up for today's audiences? Is it campy fun or just hillbilly garbage? Marvo301 01-09-2011, 12:03 AM I would say campy fun. The Dukes of Hazzard told stories where it was always good vs. evil and good always wins in the end. Those kinds of stories are timeless. Also the actors on this show created characters that the audience really came to love and always enjoy spending time with. that's another reason Dukes is timeless. TV Knowledge Fan 01-09-2011, 04:23 AM ...was pure, unpretentious fun. People loved it when it came on...and everyone who watched it knew someone like "Bo", "Luke", "Daisy", "Uncle Jesse", "Boss Hogg", "Roscoe" and "Enos" in their own lives. That's the secret of a good TV show- if you know the characters, you get to know them better, and like them. That's why there were almost seven seasons worth of episodes... :tv: catlover79 01-09-2011, 04:07 PM Campy fun all the way!! It didn't take itself seriously at all. You have likeable characters played by likeable actors. Plus, are there any shows going on now that are just plain FUN to watch??? I say no. Dukes was and is. I have several of the seasons on DVD and look forward to introducing my nephews to the show sometime. YEEEEEEEEEEEHAWWWWWWW!!! :D Sitcom Collector 01-23-2011, 02:01 PM Just got the first and second seasons on DVD. I loved it as a kid, but as an adult I love it even more. Simple, watchable storylines with lotsa burning rubber. After a long day at the office, this is just what the doctor ordered. catlover79 01-23-2011, 03:10 PM ^ Exactly!!!!! Schmoopie 01-23-2011, 11:49 PM I had the most massive crush on John Schneider when I was in junior high and absolutley LOVED this show! My best friend and I used to watch it alll the time. I found it recently and even started DVR'ing a few. I wouldn't go out and buy the series, but it is a good show. I wouldn't really even call it campy and it definitely wasn't crappy-especially compared to what's on TV now...
