I pick ABC. But NBC was closer to ABC than I thought it would be after I looked at the schedule.

ABC for me--especially since I spent a lot of money on TSMDM DVD complete series. Actually I have a lot of these ABC shows on DVD.

I watched a lot of the NBC shows and liked them back in the 80s but I dont have any desire to see them again, except for The Golden Girls.

ABC 1977,alot of good shows in their line-up.Heck, all three of the big networks(ABC,CBS,NBC) during the 1970s had great line-ups.During the 1980s,really the mid 1980s these same 3 networks started their slow decline. And now look what they have become....

Yep once cable and satellite dishes and of course the VCR became more prevalent along with Fox and its more risque programing the big three became less and less appealing.

Neither schedule is to my liking, but picking the lesser of two evils I'll go with ABC 1977. There is nothing worth watching on the NBC '86 schedule. ABC '77 does have three watchable shows (Three's Company, Welcome Back Kotter, What's Happening) and Monday Night Football.

I vote NBC 1986, but it was a VERY tough choice.

highlights for me:

ABC - The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, The Six Million Dollar Man, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Three's Company, Soap, Family, Eight is Enough, Charlie's Angels, , Welcome Back, Kotter, Barney Miller, Donny & Marie, Fish, Operation Petticoat, The Love Boat

NBC - Our House, ALF, Family Ties, Night Court, The Facts of Life, Hunter

so ABC wins for me

ABC had a great large no. of shows on their line-up as did NBC during that period.

But NBC wins for me b/c between the two, NBC did a slightly better job sustaining their overall #1 ratings the longest between the two, IMO.

ABC 1977 by a large margin for me.

NBC 86 hands down. That Thursday night was what Sitcom dreams are made of. Plus Hill Street Blues to cap it all off. Awesome.

Honestly, I'll go with ABC 1977. I say that because the shows that I liked on NBC were The Golden Girls, ALF, Gimme a Break, Valerie and The Facts of Life. Gimme a Break and Facts of Life were on there decline by that time, so I gave ABC the win. Soap, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley and Eight is Enough were all in there prime at that time.

NBC 1986, never really liked ABC's Tuesday comedies.

Why did Miami Vice lose too much audience from previous season, I know it aired against Dallas, in S2 it was going against Falcon Crest which also had huge ratings?

ABC 1977. NBC had a powerhouse Thursday night and were also strong on Saturdays, but the rest of the week was weak to average. ABC had strong lineups every night except Saturday. Which leads me to ask this question:

During these two seasons, who had the better heavyweight night?

ABC Tuesday Night 1977
800 - Happy Days #2 31.4 rating
830 - Laverne & Shirley #1 31.6 rating
900 - Three's Company #3 28.3 rating
930 - Soap #13 22.0 rating
1000 - Family #27 19.9 rating

NBC Thursday Night 1986
800 - The Cosby Show #1 34.9/53
830 - Family Ties #2 33.4/50
900 - Cheers #3 27.5/41
930 - Night Court #7 23.2/35
1000 - Hill Street Blues #39 (tie) 14.6/24

Now that is one tough choice to make. I'll still go with ABC, but it's very close to call.

It was a difficult choice regardless I had to go with ABC 1977 only because I like the sitcoms from that era better.

Minor correction: "Still the One" was not used for two more years. ABC went with "We're the One" for '78 before returning to "Still the One" in '79.

NBC was okay in '86, but ABC '77 was just more fun. Meanwhile, if you compare the networks in both years rather than in separate years, ABC's lineup was far better than NBC's in '77 and closer to NBC in terms of watchability in '86 than raw ratings would have you think. At least for me. (We won't even get into the fact that NBC's biggest show that year is today radioactive because of its unrepentant sexual predator star.)

I picked NBC just because that whole Saturday night lineup brings back very fond teenage memories for me.
